This article speculates the economic outcome of World War II if the Nazi order wins the war. It is the author's view that the world after the war will be characterized by political independence and economic cooperation, and not political machinery. The idea of economic cooperation will be the most difficult problem because it will require all nations to accept sacrifice to further the common good. The author looks at how the economy of the U.S. must use maximum effort to increase catch up with the military and economic accomplishments of Germany, and how the transition from a war economy to a peace economy will become increasingly difficult as the war continues. Consideration is given to current economic state of the U.S. as opposed to its possible economy after the war.

Berlin is paying in enhanced prices, in the growth of speculation and in the general unsettling of society, the penalty of her sudden promotion to an imperial capital. It will be well for her and for Germany if she can avert the perils of that political centralization, with its attendant social demoralization, which has wrought the ruin of Paris and of France. There is no question of cheap living in Berlin, Rents have advanced in much the same ratio as in Yew York from 1863 to 1868. The bill with scheme for taxing speculation has been carried through various stages, and was made law on May 19, 1885 in Germany. It is printed in full in a recent number of the "Jahrbücher für National-Oekonomie." As compared with what was originally proposed, the law is a very mild measure, and one hardly likely to have any great results. But it still deserves attention because it is very characteristic of public opinion in Germany on economic and social subjects, and also characteristic of the present condition of German politics. As an economic measure, it is the first practical outcome of the agitation against speculative gambling in stocks and goods which has been going on for the last ten or fifteen years, and which is only one manifestation of the whole movement of German thought on economic matters.
