The article focuses on the early contributions to arid-zone hydrogeology in the eastern Basin and Range region. It presents a physical geography of Basin and Range (B&R) province of West America as the main core of major improvements in arid-zone hydrogeology after the Civil War. Moreover, it cites the development of geology-based conceptual models of intermontane basin, river valley, and mountain block underground bed in the eastern B&R region through 1945. It also presents an overview of a series of brief statements regarding the pioneering contributions of individuals and institutions with string regional ties, especially on studies that focuses on geologic and hydrogeochemistry.
