Taxonomic notes on the Talaus species from China are provided. Two new species, T. yuyang Yao & Liu, sp. nov. and T. zhangjiangkou Yao & Liu, sp. nov. are described and illustrated, and a further three species are redescribed based on their genitalic characters: T. dulongjiang Tang, Yin, Ubick & Peng, 2008, T. niger Tang, Yin, Ubick & Peng, 2008, and T. sulcus Tang & Li, 2010. The species T. xiphosus Zhu & Ono, 2007 is considered a junior synonym of T. triangulifer Simon, 1886 based on an examination of many recently collected female and male specimens from Guangxi Province, China. An outbreak of suspected iridovirus disease in cultured hybrid grouper (♀Tiger Grouper Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × ♂ Giant Grouper Epinephelus lanceolatus) occurred in the Guangxi Province in July, 2018. In this study, grouper iridovirus Guangxi (SGIV‐Gx) was isolated from diseased hybrid grouper that were collected from Guangxi. Cytopathic effects were observed and identified in grouper spleen cells that were incubated with diseased tissue homogenates after 24 h, and the effects increased at 48 h postinfection. The transmission electron microscopy results showed that viral particles that were about 200 nm in diameter with hexagonal profiles were present in the cell cytoplasm of suspected virus‐infected cells. The presence of SGIV‐Gx (accession number: MK107821) was identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and amplicon sequencing, which showed that this strain was most closely related to Singapore grouper iridovirus (AY521625.1). The detection of SGIV‐Gx infection was further supported by novel aptamer (Q2c)‐based detection technology. The effects of temperature and pH on viral infectivity were analyzed by using reverse transcription quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction (RT‐qPCR) and cell culture. The results indicated that SGIV‐Gx was resistant to exposure to pH levels 5, 7, and 7.5 for 1 h, but its infectivity was remarkably lower at pH levels 3 and 10 after 1 h. The analyses showed that SGIV‐Gx was stable for 1 h at 4°C and 25°C but was inactivated after 1 h at 40, 50, and 60°C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The family Caponiidae Simon, 1890 is reported for the first time from China. The total number of the known spider families from China increases to 72 with the addition of this family newly recorded in the present paper. Grouper iridovirus was isolated from the diseased hybrid grouper in Guangxi province, China (SGIV-Gx), which has a high mortality rate in cultured groupers. Effective medicines for controlling SGIV-Gx infection are urgently needed. Lonicera japonica Thunb. (L. japonica) is a well-known medicinal plant. The application of L. japonica components against SGIV-Gx infection was assessed in this study. The safe, appropriate working concentration of each L. japonica component was identified (L. japonica aqueous extracts LAE ≤ 10 mg/mL; chlorogenic acid, CGA ≤ 250 μg/mL; cryptochlorogenic acid, CCGA≤500 μg/mL; isochlorogenic acid A, IAA ≤ 250 μg/mL; isochlorogenic acid B, IAB ≤ 250 μg/mL; isochlorogenic acid C, IAC ≤ 500 μg/mL; caffeic acid, CA ≤ 125 μg/mL; luteolin (LT) and inositol (IS), no cytotoxic effects even at 2000 μg/mL) in vitro and in vivo. The inhibitory activities of each L. japonica component against SGIV-Gx infection were analyzed by three methods: light microscopy, Q3-AFMP and RT-qPCR, which proved that, some L. japonica components (LAE, IAA, IAB, IAC, CA, LT, IS) exhibited the antiviral activity against SGIV-Gx infection in a dose-dependent manner, and LAE, IAA, IAB, IAC, CA, LT had the best antiviral activity against SGIV-Gx infection, with above 90% of inhibitory percentage. Overall, the results in this study suggest that L. japonica components have antiviral effects, making this plant a promising candidate for developing effective medicines for preventing and controlling SGIV-Gx infection in farmed groupers. • L. japonica components displayed antiviral activities against grouper iridovirus infection. • L. japonica ingredients LAE, IAA, IAB, IAC, CA, LT had the best antiviral activity. • L. japonica is a promising candidate for developing effective medicines for controlling SGIV-Gx infection.
