The association between gut microbiota and immunologic nonresponse among people living with HIV (PLHIV) on antiretroviral therapy (ART) is not well documented. This study aimed to characterize gut microbiota among HIV‐infected men who have sex with men (MSM) with different immunologic responses. We recruited HIV‐infected MSM and HIV‐uninfected MSM (healthy controls, HC) in Guangzhou, June–October 2021. HIV‐infected MSM were grouped into good immunological responders (GIR) (CD4 + T cell count ≥ 350 cells/μL) and poor immunological responders (PIR) (<350 cells/μL). Blood and stool samples were collected. Microbial translocation in serum was performed using enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Bacterial 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing was performed on stool samples, and microbial metabolites were obtained through gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry. 56 GIR, 41 PIR, and 51 HC were included. Microbial translocation marker soluble cluster of differentiation 14 (sCD14) in both GIR and PIR groups was significantly higher than that in HC. Compared with PIR or HC groups, the genera of Coprococcus, Blautia, Clostridium, and SMB53 were decreased, whereas Megamonas and Megasphaera were more abundant in GIR group. Compared with GIR or PIR groups, Bifidobacterium, Collinsella, Faecalibacterium, Oscillospira, and Roseburia were more abundant, whereas Escherichia was decreased in HC group. The levels of benzenoids, imidazoles, phenylpropanoic acids, phenylpropanoids, and pyridines showed strongly significant correlations between differential genera. This study presented a comprehensive landscape of gut microbiota in PLHIV with different treatment outcomes. (1) Background: We conducted a prospective observational cohort study to measure incidence, persistence, and clearance of anal human papillomavirus (HPV) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. (2) Methods: MSM were recruited in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Wuxi, China in 2017. A tablet-based questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic and behavioral characteristics. An anal brush sample was collected for HPV testing and genotyping. Participants were followed up 12 months after enrolment. (3) Results: A total of 196 participants completed two HPV tests with a median age of 27.3 (interquartile range (IQR) 24.0–32.8) years. Rate of incidence, persistence, and clearance for HPV among MSM were 31.3 (95% confidence interval (CI) 24.7–39.2), 47.9 (36.8–61.3), and 122.5 (104.3–143.0) per 1000 person months (pm), respectively. HPV 16 (4.1/1000 pm) had the highest incidence rate, and HPV 6 (47.4/1000 pm) had the highest persistence rate. Having lower education and engaging in receptive anal intercourse were potential risk factors of HPV incidence. A higher incidence rate was observed among younger MSM. (4) Conclusions: The high incidence and low clearance of anal HPV highlight the necessity of HPV vaccination among MSM. Mass vaccination against the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing worldwide to achieve herd immunity among the general population. However, little is known about how the COVID-19 vaccination would affect mental health and preventive behaviors toward the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, we conducted a cross-sectional survey to address this issue among 4244 individuals at several COVID-19 vaccination sites in Guangzhou, China. Using univariate analysis and multiple linear regression models, we found that major demographic characteristics, such as biological sex, age, education level, and family per capita income, are the dominant influencing factors associated with health beliefs, mental health, and preventive behaviors. After propensity score matching (PSM) treatment, we further assessed the changes in the scores of health belief, mental health, and preventive behaviors between the pre-vaccination group and the post-vaccination group. When compared to individuals in the pre-vaccination group, a moderate but statistically significant lower score was observed in the post-vaccination group (p = 0.010), implying possibly improved psychological conditions after COVID-19 vaccination. In addition, there was also a moderate but statistically higher score of preventive behaviors in the post-vaccination group than in the pre-vaccination group (p < 0.001), suggesting a higher probability to take preventive measures after COVID-19 vaccination. These findings have implications for implementing non-pharmaceutical interventions combined with mass vaccination to control the rebound of COVID-19 outbreaks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Early diagnosis and treatment of neurosyphilis is of great significance for regression. There is no gold standard for the diagnosis of neurosyphilis. We did this study to explore the factors associated with the clinical diagnosis of neurosyphilis and assess their accuracy for the diagnosis of neurosyphilis.Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 100 cases of syphilis patients who underwent lumbar puncture at a major dermatology hospital in Guangzhou, China between April 2013 and November 2016. Fifty patients who were clinically diagnosed with neurosyphilis were selected as case group. Control group consisted of 50 general syphilis patients who were matched with age and gender. The records of patients were reviewed to collect data of socio-demographic information, clinical symptom, and laboratory indicators. Multivariable logistic regression was used to explore diagnostic indictors, and ROC analysis was used to assess diagnostic accuracy.Results: Neurological symptoms (odds ratio (OR) = 59.281, 95% CI:5.215-662.910, P = 0.001), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TPPA) titer (OR = 1.004, 95% CI:1.002-1.006, P < 0.001), CSF protein (OR = 1.005, 95% CI:1.000-1.009, P = 0.041), and CSF white blood cell (WBC) (OR = 1.120, 95% CI:1.017-1.233, P = 0.021) were found to be statistically associated with neurosyphilis. In ROC analysis, CSF TPPA titer had a sensitivity of 90%, a specificity of 84%, and an area under curve (AUC) of 0.941.Conclusion: CSF TPPA can potentially be considered as an alternative test for diagnosis of neurosyphilis. Combining with neurological symptoms, CSF protein, CSF WBC, the diagnosis would have a higher sensitivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Men who have sex with men (MSM), especially those infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), are at disproportionate risk for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Data about anal HPV prevalence among MSM in southern China are limited. MSM were recruited between January 1 and August 31, 2017 in three metropolitan cities: Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Wuxi. A self-completed tablet-based questionnaire was used to collect information about socio-demographic/sexual behavioral characteristics, history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and recreational drug use. An anal brush was used to collect exfoliated cells for HPV DNA testing and genotyping, and a blood sample was taken for HIV testing. Penile/anal warts were checked by a clinician. A total of 536 MSM were enrolled, including 39 HIV-positive and 497 HIV-negative individuals. Compared with HIV-negative MSM, prevalence of any HPV genotype (79.5% vs 46.7%), any high-risk genotype (64.1% vs 36.6%) and any nonavalent vaccine-preventable genotype (53.9% vs 31.6%) was significantly higher in HIV-positive MSM, with all P < 0.01. HIV infection (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 4.28; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.87–9.80), using recreational drugs (AOR, 1.87; 95% CI, 1.22–2.87), having ≥ 3 years of sexual experience (AOR, 1.52; 95% CI, 1.01–2.28), having ≥ 6 lifetime male partners (AOR, 1.92; 95% CI, 1.29–2.86), and engaging receptive anal intercourse (AOR, 2.30; 95% CI, 1.48–3.57) were associated with higher anal HPV prevalence. Any HPV prevalence increased with age, from 24.5% at < 20 years to 55.8% at ≥ 40 years. Anal HPV prevalence was high among MSM in southern China, significantly associated with HIV status and sexual experience. HPV prevalence increased with age among MSM. A targeted HPV vaccination program for teenage MSM might be necessary. Our findings will inform targeted HPV modelling among MSM in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
