The article discusses the detection of what is considered as the youngest natural oil in the world. It states that the said oil has been discovered in thermally modified sediments in Guaymas Basin, California. It explores the results of radiocarbon age determination of petroleum-like hydrocarbons collected in the volcanism area of Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia and highlights processes of converting biomass into liquid fuel.
