The author discusses the 2014 outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) which was declared as an international public health emergency. Topics discussed include its origin in Guinea in March 2014 with almost 15,935 suspected cases of EVD in other affected nations such as Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone, factors that allowed the disease to grow such as lack of preparedness, delayed initial response, and poverty and need for development of an action plan for denying further expansion of the disease.
