The article examines what is referred to as the soft-power dimension of antipiracy operations by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), particularly in the Gulf of Aden. The article discusses piracy that impacted Chinese foreign trade in the oil and energy sectors, China's growth as a military and naval power, and the significance of PLAN's antipiracy operations upon naval diplomacy.
