A recent study conducted at Anhui University in Hefei, China, explored the effects of Danshensu, a compound extracted from the traditional Chinese herb Danshen, on neuronal excitability and voltage-gated ionic currents in the central nervous system. The researchers found that Danshensu reduced the excitability of bushy cells in the mouse cochlear nucleus by enhancing voltage-gated potassium currents. This finding provides mechanistic support for the neuroprotective effects of Danshensu observed in vivo.
