Abstract

The article discusses a study that compared the impact of marine barrier against upland peak barrier on the population genetic structure and diversification of Hong Kong newt, Paramesotriton hongkongensis, using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) DNA markers. Considerable genetic differentiation was shown based on the 476 AFLP markers with 102 polymorphic loci. It is suggested that genetic divergence is influenced by terrestrial biogeographic barrier.
