The article focuses on the partnership of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu with the Okinawa Chubu Hospital to train physicians in Japan for over 40 years. The internship program was in accordance with the Medical Act of Japan and first led by program director Neal L. Gault. It composed of 14 faculty members in various specialties such as pediatrics and surgery. Unlike with other training offered in Japan, the program rotates trainees through specialties during the entire training.
