The Middle and Upper Permian Dalong and Gufeng Formations in South China have recently been considered as potential gas-producing shales. However, their pore structure characteristics remain poorly understood. To investigate the pore structure and fractal characteristics of the pores in these two formations, a suite of shale samples from the Dalong and Gufeng Formations in the western Hubei Province, South China were analyzed by multiple techniques, namely, TOC content, X-ray diffraction (XRD) mineralogy analysis, optical microscopy observations, major elemental analysis, field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and low-pressure gas adsorption measurements (N2 and CO2). The identified major shale lithofacies include siliceous mudstone, carbonaceous mudstone, argillaceous-siliceous mixed mudstone, and calcareous-siliceous mixed mudstone. SEM images show that the dominant pore types include the pores between brittle minerals, slit-shaped pores between clay sheets, and secondary organic matter (OM) pores within solid bitumen. The pore size distribution is dominated by micropores and mesopores (<30 nm), which are the major contributors to total pore volume and surface area for the Dalong and Gufeng Formations. Based on the Frenkel–Halsey–Hill (FHH) method, fractal dimensions (D1, D2) calculated from the nitrogen adsorption data have a range of from 2.489 to 2.772 (D1) and from 2.658 to 2.963 (D2), and are higher in the Gufeng Formation (average TOC = 8.3 wt.%) due to a higher TOC content comparing to the Dalong Formation (average TOC = 6.2 wt.%). The pore development and fractal characteristics are primarily controlled by organic matter (OM), carbonate minerals, and clay minerals for both the Dalong and Gufeng Formations. Shale samples with high TOC content, low carbonate content, and high clay content tend to develop more heterogeneous micropores and mesopores, which is ascribed to the generation of clay-related and OM-hosted pores, along with the destruction of primary pores by pore-filling carbonate cements. Two types of turquoise, including homogeneous Cu-rich turquoise and oscillatory zoned turquoiseplanerite series, are recognized in association with quartz-barite veins hosted by Cambrian carbonaceous slates from western Hubei Province of China. Combined fluid inclusion and Raman micro-spectroscopic data reveal that turquoise-bearing barite-quartz veins contain three types of fluid inclusions (pure CH4-N2, carbonic-aqueous, and aqueous), suggesting the responsible fluid is of carbonic-aqueous composition with low oxygen fugacity. Pressure-corrected homogenization temperatures in quartz and barite show a range from 325 to 485 °C and 186 to 391 °C, respectively. Carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen isotopic data suggest that the mineral-forming fluids have a mixed metamorphic-organic affinity, in which the fluids have δ18O and δD values of 15.0 to 18.8‰ and –111 to –93‰, respectively. Generally, the formation of quartz-barite-turquoise veins could be triggered by prior metamorphic devolatilization, followed by the interaction of fluids with country rocks enriched in carbonaceous material, which resulted in the leaching of Cu, Fe, P, and Al from chalcopyrite, pyrite, magnetite, monazite, xenotime, apatite, feldspar, and muscovite in the wall rocks. Decomposition of the organic matter in the carbonaceous slates, caused by regional metamorphism and deformation, could also promote the concentration and transportation of necessary metals for the turquoise. Thus, we propose a new model and suggest that the turquoise gem deposits in western Hubei Province of China belong to the non-magmatic hydrothermal vein type deposit, not the previously proposed supergene origin. The turquoise-forming fluids were characterized by the coexistence of two immiscible fluids of non-magmatic affinity (i.e., moderate to high-temperature and low-salinity aqueous fluid and pure CH4-N2 fluid formed by interaction with carbonaceous slates). The bluish green homogeneous turquoise in the metamorphic quartz-barite-turquoise veins evolved toward the turquoise-planerite solid solution series as the metal-leaching capability of the aqueous fluids decreased. The organic-rich shales found in the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation are typically deposited in oxygen-deficient reducing environments. One of the primary sources of debate revolves around the question of whether the anoxic bottom water found in these shales is either euxinic or ferruginous, and this matter remains unresolved. Previous studies have mostly focused on the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation as a whole in order to understand the key factors that control organic matter accumulation (OMA). However, research on OMA for each member, including the Wufeng Formation (WF), the lower Longmaxi Formation (LLM), and the upper Longmaxi Formation (ULM), has been insufficient. This paper aims to investigate the palaeoenvironmental conditions and OMA mechanisms of the Wufeng–Longmaxi shales in western Hubei by integrating data on total organic carbon (TOC) content, mineral compositions, major and trace elements, and iron speciation. The results indicate that the Wufeng–Longmaxi shales were deposited under highly restricted hydrographic conditions, except for relatively open and upwelling conditions in the upper WF. Silica in the upper WF was primarily biogenic origin and not hydrothermal. Ferruginous conditions were the primary redox conditions for organic-rich shales except for minor formations in the lower LLM that were deposited under euxinic conditions. Due to the tectonic uplift caused by the Kwangsian Orogeny in the upper LLM, the palaeoenvironment was characterized by a warmer and wetter climate, high terrigenous influx, oxic conditions, and low productivity as the result of the insufficient nutrients caused by the weak upwelling, leading to the turnover of graptolite biozones from LM5 to LM6. The factors influencing OMA changed vertically. TOC contents have a highly positive correlation with Al content, indicating that terrigenous influx was the main factor affecting OMA in the WF, which significantly differed from patterns found in other regions. This suggests that the sedimentation rate of organic matter was higher than the terrigenous dilution rate during the WF stage. The combination of redox conditions and productivity were the main factors affecting OMA in the LLM, while terrigenous influx was the key factor controlling OMA in the ULM, resulting in the dilution of organic matter. Regions in the eastern Yiling block, which are close to the Qinling Ocean, show better prospects for shale gas exploration. Yichang is a city in central China in the Hubei Province. This study aimed to estimate the dynamics of the transmissibility of hepatitis C using a mathematical model and predict the transmissibility of hepatitis C in 2030. Data of hepatitis C cases from 13 counties or districts (cities) in Yichang from 2008 to 2016 were collected. A susceptible‐infectious‐chronic‐recovered (SICR) model was developed to fit the data. The transmissibility of hepatitis C at the counties or districts was calculated based on new infections (including infected or chronically infected cases) reported monthly in the city caused by one infectious individual (MNI). The trend of the MNI was fitted and predicted using 11 models, with the coefficient of determination (R2) was being used to test the goodness of fit of these models. A total of 3065 cases of hepatitis C were reported in Yichang from 2008 to 2016. The median MNI of Yichang was 0.0768. According to the fitting results and analysis, the trend of transmissibility of hepatitis C in Yichang City conforms with the logarithmic (R2 = 0.918, p < 0.001):MNI = 0.265−0.108 log(t) and exponential (R2 = 0.939, p < 0.001): MNI = 0.344e(−0.278t) models. Hence, the transmission of hepatitis C virus at the county level has a downward trend. In conclusion, the transmissibility of hepatitis C in Yichang has a downward trend. Background: Shigellosis is one of the main diarrhea diseases in developing countries. However, the transmissibility of shigellosis remains unclear.Methods: We used the dataset of shigellosis cases reported between January 2005 and December 2017, from Hubei Province, China. A mathematical model was developed based on the natural history and the transmission mechanism of the disease. By fitting the data using the model, transmission relative rate from person to person (b) and from reservoir to person (bw), and the effective reproduction number (Reff) were estimated. To simulate the contribution of b and bw during the transmission, we performed a "knock-out" simulation in four scenarios: A) b = 0 and bw = 0; B) b = 0; C) bw = 0; D) control (no intervention).Results: A total of 130,770 shigellosis cases were reported in Hubei province, among which 13 cases were dead. The median annual incidence was 19.96 per 100,000 persons (range: 5.99 per 100,000 persons - 29.47 per 100,000 persons) with a decreased trend (trend χ2 = 25,470.27, P < 0.001). The mean values of b and bw were 0.0898 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.0851-0.0946) and 1.1264 × 10- 9 (95% CI: 4.1123 × 10- 10-1.8416 × 10- 9), respectively. The "knock-out" simulation showed that the number of cases simulated by scenario A was almost the same as scenario B, and scenario C was almost the same as scenario D. The mean value of Reff of shigellosis was 1.19 (95% CI: 1.13-1.25) and decreased slightly with a Linear model until it decreased to an epidemic threshold of 0.99 (95% CI: 0.65-1.34) in 2029.Conclusions: The incidence of shigellosis is still in high level. Environmental and economic coordination (EEC) is an essential indicator of sustainability and plays a vital role in human well-being. Quantifying trends in EEC and identifying the contributing factors are important to understand the relative impacts of human activities on ecological environment. For our case-study of 74 cities and counties in Hubei Province of China from 2000 to 2020, based on the changes of ecosystem service value (ESV), the coupling coordination degree (CCD) model was applied to calculate the EEC. The spatial–temporal differentiation characteristics of EEC were detected through spatial correlation analysis. By the spatial Durbin model and panel data, we quantified the impacts of driving factors on EEC. Our results indicated that the number of cities and counties in a coordinated state in Hubei Province declined from 2000 to 2010 and then gradually rose from 2010 to 2020, while 87.84% of the cities and counties showed an overall decreasing trend in EEC values. Hubei's EEC had obvious spatial clustering characteristics, with over 84.57% of cities and counties with medium to high EEC concentrated in the Wuhan City Circle and Yichang region, while those with low EEC were mainly concentrated in northwest, northeast and southwest of Hubei. For the driving factors, the promotion effects of industrial structure optimization and precipitation were evident, whereas the inhibition effects of increase in general public budget expenditure, population growth, urban expansion and rising temperatures were observed. Landslide is the second most frequent geological disaster after earthquake, which causes a large number of casualties and economic losses every year. China frequently experiences devastating landslides in mountainous areas. Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology has great potential for detecting potentially unstable landslides across wide areas and can monitor surface displacement of a single landslide. However traditional time series InSAR technology such as persistent scatterer interferometry (PSI) and small-baseline subset (SBAS) cannot identify enough points in mountainous areas because of dense vegetation and steep terrain. In order to improve the accuracy of landslide hazard detection and the reliability of landslide deformation monitoring in areas lacking high coherence stability point targets, this study proposes an adaptive distributed scatterer interferometric synthetic aperture radar (ADS-InSAR) method based on the spatiotemporal coherence of the distributed scatterer (DS), which automatically adjusts its detection threshold to improve the spatial distribution density and reliability of DS detection in the landslide area. After time series network modeling and deformation calculation of the ADS target, the displacement deformation of the landslide area can be accurately extracted. Shuibuya Town in Enshi Prefecture, Hubei Province, China, was used as a case study, along with 18 Sentinal-1A images acquired from March 2016 to April 2017. The ADS-InSAR method was used to obtain regional deformation data. The deformation time series was combined with hydrometeorological and related data to analyze landslide deformation. The results show that the ADS-InSAR method can effectively improve the density of DS distribution, successfully detect existing ancient landslide groups and determine multiple potential landslide areas, enabling early warning for landslide hazards. The loss of nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) through continuous surface runoff by rainfall after fertilizing and leaching into groundwater has become a critical issue that causes eutrophication of rivers, lakes, and even drinking water, resulting in agricultural non-point source (NPS) pollution of up to 50 % of pollution load. Traditionally, N and P were measured using the laboratory's flow injection analysis (FIA) method before evaluating the pollution load, which could meet urgent requirements in the fast response, prevention, and control of agricultural NPS pollution. Herein, we propose an improved flow analysis (perturbation dispersion) method by integrating chemical reaction chambers to measure nitrogen and phosphorus in water automatically and continuously. The as-fabricated system was validated with real samples from Qianjiang, Hubei Province. The experimental results drew a correlation coefficient of 0.91449 for ammonium nitrogen between the existing lab-based flow analysis method and the innovative (improved) flow analysis method. The correlation coefficients of 0.99828, 0.85129, and 0.99206 for nitrate nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, and phosphorus were calculated from the measurement results. The detection limits of 0.55, 0.20, and 0.025 mg/L with relative standard deviations (RSD) of 0.8 %, 5.7 %, and 0.9 % were observed for NH 4 +–N, NO 3 ––N, and PO 4 3− measurements, respectively. This work facilitates the online and continuous control of the NPS pollution load and timely expands the flow injection analysis (FIA) techniques for understanding the pollutants in water and farmland environments.
