The article presents a study which examines the effects Muscle Armor™ (MA) from Abbott laboratories Inc. in Abbott Park, Illinois on hormonal and damage markers when added to a 12-week resistance exercise training program. It notes that the essential amino-acid based formula contains β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB). Previous research shows induced anabolic effects through intake of essential amino acids and their metabolites. MA supplementation can increase gains in muscle strength, lean body mass, and muscle power after resistance training exercise. MA also increases testosterone induced during resting and exercise phase, as well as concentrations of resting growth hormone. However, MA reduces concentrations of preexercise cortisol.
