Library is a service organization which requires constant assessment of its services with a vast amount of information collected on expenditure, books added and journals subscribed, books and journals issued, etc. To build a balanced and usable collection is the most important aspect of any library service which requires evaluation to see whether the users are satisfied with the library collection or not. This article gives a brief profile of Palli Samgathana Vibhaga Library, Visva- Bharati and evaluates the various factors of library collection by administering questionnaires to its users. On the basis of the data obtained, suggests some measures to enhance efficient use of the library collection and give some proposals to overcome the impediments of collection development. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to review the literature about oriental manuscript collections in India and provide an overview of the area. Design/methodology/approach – A core set of literature on oriental manuscript collections in India was retrieved after doing a thorough literature search in different databases. Literature on various aspects of this topic was reviewed. The paper is organized based on various themes to make the study fruitful for various sections of society. Findings – Oriental manuscripts are present in different research libraries, university libraries and public libraries in India but university libraries are leading others in preserving these manuscripts, with few exceptions. Manuscripts are available in different oriental languages but mostly in Sanskrit. Every religious sect in India has contributed immensely in collecting and preserving these manuscripts. The contribution of famous kings of Indian history is also enormous in this regard. Research limitations/implications – The review does not claim to be exhaustive, as most sources might have been skipped during the study for their non-availability. Originality/value – This paper provides a concise overview of manuscripts present in different Indian libraries and research institution/universities and provides a valuable entry point to the field of Indian manuscripts for research scholars, information scientists and other interested parties. This paper provides a brief overview of the collection of Delhi Public Library. System (DPLS). The focus was to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the book collection in relation to the population of Delhi, the capital city, India. Questionnaire and interview methods were used to collect data about the collection, and collection development process. Additionally, annual reports and other documents were used for the purpose. The major findings of the study highlights that the DPLS has very low membership with respect to the total population of Delhi, DPLS has only 64883 registered members compared to the 16.75 million population of state, Rate of growth of the collection is also low. This article emphasizes the need to address the converging as well as diverging factors of Libraries, Archives and Museums (LAMs) for expanding the scope of proposed convergence beyond integrated access. While thinking about this convergence we must protect the role, focus, scope and identities of these disciplines rather than treating them as the same thing referred to by different terminologies. Such a mixed approach has been manifested in many generalized software solutions which loosely claim to manage archives, museums, libraries and repositories together. The courses on museology, archives, library and information science offered in India and elsewhere are found to be at different phases of evolution in terms of integration of digital preservation methods. Paper furnishes the holdings of grey literature in the libraries of the engineering colleges recognized for research by the VTU. The organization of the grey sources and the extent of its use are highlighted based on the responses sought from the working librarians and the users of grey literature. The users constitute the faculty engaged in supervising the doctoral research, and the research scholars who have registered for research work. The importance of grey literature is established on the extent of demand and access in the higher range. The study also covers the opinions expressed by the faculty and researchers on the cooperation and assistance rendered by the librarians while accessing the grey collections. The article presents an analysis of books borrowed from the Siddhartha Engineering College in India. Specifically, the author examines those books borrowed by final-year computer science and engineering students at the school. The methodology of the study is presented, an analysis of the borrowing data is given, and the author's conclusions are detailed. Topics include books borrowed by each gender, decisions librarians have to make regarding which books to buy, and the students' preferences regarding which books they take out of the library. Also discussed is a ranked list of the most frequently used books.

A book number takes shelf arrangement of documents to a point where classification per se cannot. Class number alone is not able to uniquely individualise a document on the library shelves. The function of a book number starts from where that of the class number ends. An author number also brings together all the books by one author in one specific subject. A chronological book number will clearly portray the development of a subject over a given period. Book numbers are indispensable for a shelflist. The National Library (NL) of India at Kolkata has a collection of about 3 million documents. For organizing its contents it uses the DDC and the shelf arrangement is by Cutter's three figure author table. For Indian names it uses its home-made author table described here. Though the National Library table is designed especially for Indian names across all religions and regional cultures, yet its use outside the National Library has not been reported mostly due lack of marketing. LibSys is a library management system with five modules - Acquisition System, Cataloguing System, Circulation System, Serials System and OPAC. This system was implemented in the Library of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, India about 4½ years back. The authors, during the process of implementation and its subsequent use, have evaluated the system, and have reported their findings in this paper. It has been found that the system has the capability to automate all the library functions, though it has some shortcomings. It is available for single-user as well as multi-user environments for libraries with limited as well as unlimited collections. Indiana University's India Studies program is young, as is the Indiana University Libraries (IU Libraries) focus on India in the context of area studies programs. The process of crafting access to sources and developing library collections during a four-year period is the subject of the paper. The metaphor of making a patchwork quilt embellished with reflective mirrors representing virtual links is employed to emphasize the cooperative nature of acquisitions and collections in 2001, the year the IU Libraries migrated to a web-based catalog. Emphasis is placed on techniques for stretching resources. Uniform Resource Locaters (URLs) are included in footnotes to facilitate access to websites. The article discusses the National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC )in Lucknow. It explains that NRLC was established by the Government of India in 1976. It mentions that the main goal of the laboratory is to conduct research in technical history of materials and to improve upon conservations techniques. The conservation laboratory also aims to impart training, give technical assistance to other institutions, to bring out publications and to have a documentation center.
