In the digitally empowered society, increased internet utilization leads to potential harm to the youth through cyberbullying on various social networking platforms. The cyberbullying stats keep on rising each year, leading to detrimental consequences. In response to this online threat, the Indian Government launched different helplines, especially for the children and women who need assistance, various complaint boxes, cyber cells, and made strict legal provisions to curb online offenses. This research evaluates the relevant initiatives. Additionally, a survey is conducted to get insights into cyberbullying in higher education institutions, discussing multiple factors responsible for youth and adolescents being cyberbullied and a few measures to combat it in universities/colleges.

The purpose of the study is to analyse the impact of web-based teaching on job satisfaction as well as burnout of faculty after the undeniable shift from traditional teaching to online teaching in the COVID-19 and related restrictions. The study also aims to explore the mediating role of faculty burnout in the relationship between online teaching and job satisfaction. The study is based on primary data collected through structured questionnaire from 359 respondents of Punjab (India) selected via snowball sampling method. For framing questionnaire, three validated scales were used in adapted form namely Online Faculty Satisfaction Survey (OFSS), Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS-21), Brayfield & Rothe Job Satisfaction Survey (BRJSS). PLS-SEM has been used for analysing the complex relationships among various constructs. The findings revealed that lack of instructor student interaction and institutional support had significant impact on job satisfaction (negative impact) as well as faculty burnout (positive impact) whereas technological support was found to be insignificant. Faculty burnout was found to be meditating the relation between online teaching and job satisfaction. Faculty category was found to be non-moderating concluding thereby college and school teachers are not different in terms of constructs relationships. A humble attempt has been made to reflect upon the teaching pedagogies that can contribute to effective cognitive online learning environment.

Education is fundamental to learning and is a pre-requisite for development. It is also imperative for sustained growth and development of a nation. There is still a long way to go for India in achieving Goal 4 and 5 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals quality education and gender equality by 2030. Despite several government initiatives and literacy programmes, a gender gap in literacy of 17% still persists. A collective effort is required to address these gaps, as women constitute two-thirds of the illiterate population in India. The present study has been conducted to assess the outcome of an adult literacy programme 'Each One Enable One' by undergraduate students at a college of the University of Delhi, targeted at women from poor socio-economic backgrounds residing in the neighbourhood of students. The study was conducted across 11 districts of Delhi, the Capital city of India, using a sample of 150 women. The results have revealed that literacy programme led to statistically significant gains in the overall literacy scores of women in Reading, Writing and Arithmetic and enhanced self-confidence of women. The study has highlighted the positive outcome of the Each One Enable One Program and has provided evidence for the need to upscale such initiatives.

In winter, the paddy residues become wet during morning and late evening due to dew, which restricts the operation of sowing machines (Happy Seeder and Super Seeder) into paddy residues, as wet residues do not slide on furrow openers/tines. A PAU Smart Seeder (PSS) was developed and evaluated for a four-wheel tractor that can sow wheat with optimum crop establishment in combined harvested rice fields. The PSS were evaluated for its performance under varying straw load, forward speed, and rotor speed in terms of fuel consumption, field capacity, seed emergence, and grain yield. The crop establishment and wheat yield of PSS was also compared with the existing straw management machines Happy Seeder (HS) and Super Seeder (SS) under heavy paddy residue conditions. The effect of the straw load was more pronounced on dependent variables than the effect of the speed index. PSS performance was best at a forward speed of 2.6 km h−1, rotor speed of 127.5 rpm, and a straw load of 6 t ha−1. Average fuel consumption using PSS was lower than SS but higher than HS. Wheat emergence was higher by 15.6 and 25.7% on the PSS plots compared to HS and SS, respectively. Average wheat grain yield in PSS plots was significantly higher by 12.7 and 18.9% than SS and HS, respectively in one experiment, while the grain yield was similar for both PSS and HS in other experiments. PSS has a novel mechanism to manage paddy straw and simultaneously sow wheat into a heavy straw load (> 8 t ha−1) mixture of anchored and loose straw. In conclusion, PSS showed promise for in-situ management of rice straw as it eliminates most of the operational problems encountered by the existing seeders (HS and SS). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Journal club (JC) is an integral part of postgraduate medical education. Although several innovations have been attempted to improve its effectiveness, the influence of the number of sessions remains unexplored. The current study investigated the effect of the number of sessions (one vs. four) of conduction of journal club on critical appraisal skills of postgraduate students at two institutions. A quasi-experimental study was conducted comparing the effectiveness of JC in a one- versus four-session JC format using two objective tests: Critical Appraisal Skills Test (CAST) and Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) score. The degree of changes (pre-JC vs. post-JC session) after each format exposure, association of prescores to postscores, and correlation between the CAST and PICO scores were discerned. CAST score was higher in the four-session format (P = 0.03), whereas PICO score increased in the single-session format of JC (P = 0.03). Also, the change in CAST score was higher in the four-session versus single-session JC format (P = 0.04). We conclude that a four-session format of JC is more effective in augmenting critical appraisal skills of postgraduate students, whereas a single session is sufficient for improving factual knowledge.

Occupational stress among teachers has become a matter of increasing concern. It is not only evidenced from the large body of studies on the subject but also through factors that predispose educators to work related stress. The present study also tends to identify demographic patterns of workplace stress as well as examine the role of correlates like socio-economic status and work experience on stress levels. It further explores specific workplace stressors reported by Indian teachers. The sample consisted of 398 teachers, 31.9% males and 68.1% females, from urban centre, New Delhi, India. The measures included the National Stress Awareness Day Stress Questionnaire and a self-report questionnaire designed for the purpose of the research. Results showed that with 52% public and rest private school employees, stress levels were found to be high among 28% (111 participants) of the sample. All demographic variables, Socio Economic Status (SES) categories, promotional and experience factors were contributing significantly to the stress prediction model but age group, work experience and promotion opportunities were reported as prime explanatory variables for the model (B = 2 approx.; p < 0.05). For every unit/category change in these variables, the stress score was seen to increase by 2. The optimal stress score that culminates to larger stressor of affecting general health was 10.8 and was 88% sensitive while a stress score beyond 11.5 is seen to affect work deliverables to students as reported by teachers. Findings were also reviewed in the context of practical implications they may render with probable reasoning. We recommend a constant evaluation of stress levels, for teachers, and providing appropriate counselling may be the stepping stone to reduce stress and improve quality of life for the teachers.

This study focuses upon the current scenario of SDGs implementation by revewing the articles published since 2012 to present. There have been a number of studies being performed by various researchers. So it becomes important to analyze the available studies to get insights about when, where, by whom and how these researches evolved over the years. However, the main area of this study has been limited to India only to check the evolution of Sustainability Development Goals. Bibliometric analysis has been used to analyze 580 articles which have been extracted out of 37,700 articles by following a rigorous process. For which the systemmatic review of literature has been adopted which is followed by the bibliometric analysis. The findings of the study reveal that India has adopted SDGs but the pace of adoption is comparatively slow and India need more policies and awareness program to achieve sustainability goals. Background: Fasting before elective anesthesia care is a standardized practice worldwide. The aim is to decrease the risk of aspiration leading to pulmonary complications such as aspiration pneumonitis during anesthesia care. There are different guidelines for elective preoperative fasting in children. However, there is insufficient literature measuring gastric emptying time after breast milk or formula milk feeding in infants. Objective: This study used gastric ultrasound to determine the gastric emptying time for breast milk and formula milk in children below 6 months of age. We also compared the calculated gastric volumes among breast‐fed and formula milk‐fed based on Schmitz's and Spencer's formula. Materials and methods: This prospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary care center in India between November (2017–2019). A total of 52 infants less than 6 months of age were recruited. The study population was divided into two groups (breast‐fed and formula milk‐fed) of 26 patients each. Ultrasound was used to measure the antral cross‐sectional area of the stomach and to calculate the gastric volume using the two classical formulas (Schmitz and Spencer's). Gastric emptying was reported when the bull's eye appearance of the gastric antrum was seen or when the antral cross‐sectional area was less than 3.07 cm2. Results: The number of breast‐fed children whose antral cross‐sectional was greater than 3.07 cm2 (cut‐off value for aspiration risk) beyond 1 h was 14/26 (53.84%) while none (0) children went beyond 3 h. The number of formula‐fed children whose antral cross‐sectional was greater than 3.07 cm2 beyond 1 h was 17/26 (65.38%) while one child (3.84%) went beyond 3 h. Using Schmitz's formula, mean (SD) gastric emptying times were 0.35 ± 0.68 h (95% CI 0.35 ± 0.185, range 0.165–0.535) for breast‐fed patients and 0.35 ± 0.69 h (95% CI 0.35 ± 0.188, range 0.162–0.538) for formula‐fed patients, and were thus neither clinically nor statistically different (p =.73) Using Spencer's formula, the mean gastric emptying times were 0.12 ± 0.33 h (95% CI 0.12 ± 0.09, range 0.03–0.21) for breast‐fed patients and 0.04 ± 0.20 h (95% CI 0.04 ± 0.05, range −0.01 to 0.09) for formula‐fed patients, and were also neither clinically nor statistically different p =.13. Conclusion: In our series, the gastric emptying times in breast‐fed and formula‐fed infants less than 6 months old were similar. Our results support the fasting guidelines of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care 2022, that is, 3 h for breastfeeding and 4 h for formula milk feeding. In addition, this shows that the Schmitz's and Spencer's formulae used to calculate the gastric volume based on ultrasound measurement of the antral cross‐sectional area are not comparable in infants less than 6 months. INTRODUCTION India has unique tobacco-free film and TV rules designed to prevent tobacco uptake. In this study, we examined the potential influence of exposure to smoking imagery in regionally famous films, on susceptibility to smoke in teenagers enrolled in schools in a district in Southern India. METHODS A longitudinal survey of students, in grades 6 to 8 at baseline in 2017 and grades 7 to 9 one year later in 2018, ascertained prospective incident susceptibility to smoking during the study period in relation to baseline exposure to 27 locally popular films with actual or implied smoking imagery. RESULTS We analyzed linked data from 33676 participants, and 3973 (11.8%) of the adolescents reported incident susceptibility. There was a significant increase in susceptibility to smoking with increasing exposure at baseline to smoking imagery in films on univariable analysis, highest tertile of exposure relative to no exposure (OR=1.4; 95% CI: 1.0 -2.1, ptrend<0.001), and this trend remained significant (p=0.022) after mutual adjustment for recognized confounders, highest vs no exposure (AOR=1.3; 95% CI: 0.9-1.8). We found no statistically significant association between exposure to tobacco-free film rules and change in susceptibility. CONCLUSIONS Prospectively, watching films featuring smoking imagery increases adolescents' vulnerability to smoking. Further research revealed no difference in susceptibility change between youth who saw partially compliant films and those who watched non-compliant films. The primary objective of this study was to comprehensively explore the biochemical profile of the novel halotolerant microalgae strain, biogas laboratory scenedesmus (BGLRS), previously isolated from waterlogged regions in the southwest zone of Punjab, India. To achieve this, three distinct drying methods viz. freeze‐drying, oven‐drying, and shade‐drying were employed and biochemical composition and antioxidant analyses on the microalgal biomass were conducted. Utilizing advanced analytical techniques, including high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), inductively coupled plasma‐atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP‐AES), and gas chromatography‐mass spectroscopy (GC‐MS) on freeze‐dried biomass, its carbohydrate profile, micronutrient composition, and presence of bioactive compounds with potential therapeutic and nutraceutical significance were sought to unravel. Among the drying methods evaluated, freeze‐drying exhibited the most promising experimental results, prompting its selection for further investigation. Notably, ICP‐AES unveiled elevated concentrations of essential elements such as calcium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus in BGLRS, with negligible traces of heavy metals, underscoring its safety for human consumption. GC‐MS analysis further divulged the existence of numerous biologically active compounds, indicating potential applications in medical and nutraceutical fields. Through molecular identification using sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, a close taxonomic resemblance between BGLRS and Scenedesmus sp. MKB was established, solidifying its unique position within the microalgal taxonomy. The deposition of ITS sequences into the NCBI GenBank, obtaining accession number MN796425, attests to the rigor and transparency of this research. Overall, these findings strongly suggest that microalgae BGLRS possesses high‐quality biochemical attributes of significant therapeutic and nutraceutical importance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a phagocytic defect characterized by recurrent bacterial and fungal infections. We report clinical profile of patients with CGD and mycobacterial infections in a cohort from North India. A review of clinical and laboratory records was carried out for patients with CGD registered at our center between 1990 and 2021. Of the 99 patients with CGD, 22 had mycobacterial infections—Mycobacterium tuberculosis and M. bovis-BCG in 11 each. Among the children with M. bovis-BCG infection, 6 had localized and 5 had disseminated BCG disease. Median age at onset of symptoms and diagnosis of BCG disease was 5 months and 15 months, respectively. While disseminated forms of BCG were noted only in CYBB defect, none of the patients with NCF1 defect developed complications due to BCG vaccine. A recurring radiological feature was left axillary lymph node calcification, which was present in around 50% of CGD patients with BCG infections. Of 11 patients with tuberculosis, pulmonary, pleuro-pulmonary, abdominal, and disseminated forms were present in 6, 1, 2, and 2, respectively. Median age at onset of symptoms and diagnosis of tuberculosis was 129 months and 130 months, respectively. Molecular defects were identified in CYBB (5), NCF1 (4), and CYBA (1). Incidence of tuberculosis and BCG-related complications in patients with CGD is higher than the normal population. Screening for CGD is warranted in any patient with adverse reactions to BCG vaccination, calcification of left axillary lymph node, and persistent, recurrent or disseminated forms of tuberculosis. Frugivorous carnivores like civets consume fruits of many species and play an important role in their seed dispersal by virtue of depositing their scats farther away from the parent tree. This study was conducted to understand the role of the common palm civet in affecting the seed germination rate of three plant species (i.e. Syzygium cumini, Phoenix sylvestris and Ficus racemosa) in a tropical moist deciduous forest. We collected scats of common palm civets in Pachmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary, central India, and monitored the germination rate of these species for 90 days. Further, to understand the patterns of seed selection (if there are any), for seeds of a specific size, we compared the length, width, and mass of the civet‐ingested seeds with those of the control seeds. We had to discard the analyses on F. racemosa as none of its seeds in any treatment group germinated even after 50 days. Our results show a differential impact of gut passage: civet‐ingested P. sylvestris seeds experienced a higher germination percentage compared to the control seeds, while gut passage did not alter the seed germination of S. cumini. However, seed germination speed (proportion of seeds germinated per day) for both species, P. sylvestris and S. cumini, was faster for civet‐ingested seeds compared to their respective controls. Our findings also showed that civets preferred seeds that were shorter in length and width, and weighed less, in the case of P. sylvestris; however, no such statistically significant difference was found for seed selection in the case of S. cumini. Thus, our study shows that civets act as a legitimate seed disperser of plant species and exert a differential impact in altering the germination rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Post kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) is a skin disease that usually occurs among individuals with a past history of visceral leishmaniasis (VL). PKDL cases act as a reservoir of parasites and may play a significant role in disease transmission. Hence, prompt detection and complete treatment of PKDL cases are crucial for the control and elimination of VL. The purpose of this review was to highlight the barriers to effective control and prevention of VL/PKDL as well as potential solutions in India. Main obstacles are lack of knowledge about the disease and its vector, poor treatment-seeking behaviours, ineffective vector control measures, lack of confirmatory diagnostics in endemic areas, limited drug choices, treatment noncompliance among patients, drug resistance, and a lack of an adequate number of trained personnel in the health system. Therefore, in order to control and successfully eliminate VL in the Indian subcontinent, early detection of PKDL cases, improved diagnosis and treatment, raising awareness, and effective vector control mechanisms are necessary. The present work determines the contents of active and passive indoor 222Rn, 220Rn, and their daughter in the 32 houses of the Reasi district of J&K, India. The passive 222Rn and 220Rn concentration was measured by dosimeters, whereas the active content was measured by active radon monitor. Progeny sensors and integrated samplers were operated for the evaluation of passive and active daughter contents of 222Rn and 220Rn. The measured averaged values of indoor 220Rn and 222Rn were 73 ± 40 and 22 ± 8 Bqm−3, respectively. The radon and thoron equilibrium factor has varied from 0.3 to 1.7 and from 0.006 to 0.6. The fine fraction of the above-mentioned gases was also calculated. The results of Mann–Whitney test statistically demonstrated significant differences between the content of indoor 222Rn, 220Rn, and their daughter for different seasons. The values of 222Rn, 220Rn, and their daughter content were appeared to be elevated in set of mud houses among all sets of houses. The values of all daughter concentration and indoor 222Rn were appeared to lie within the limit proposed by various agencies. Background: Diabetes is one of the largest global health emergencies of the 21st century. As per the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2020, 463 million people have diabetes in the world and 88 million people in the Southeast Asia region. Seventy-seven million out of 88 million belong to India. The prevalence of diabetes in the population is 8.9%, according to the IDF. There exists a bidirectional association between diabetes and depression/anxiety, with both worsening each other's prognosis. The prevalence rates of depression could be up to three times higher in patients with type 1 diabetes and twice as high in people with type 2 diabetes, while anxiety disorders are seen in 40% of the patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus. Although no single cause has been identified for the positive correlation between diabetes and depression and anxiety, it is widely accepted that hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal dysfunction, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and a host of other epigenetic factors are responsible for the increased prevalence. This study was undertaken to check the prevalence of anxiety and depression in patients with diabetes mellitus attending the outdoor clinics of internal medicine department at a district hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. Materials and Methods: Four hundred patients were included in our study. A semi-structured pro forma was used to collect demographic details, and anxiety and depression were screened using the Hamilton Anxiety and Depression Rating Scales, respectively. Data collected were subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Fifty-eight percent of the sample population had depression and 27% had anxiety, with a vast majority having mild symptoms. Gender and duration of diabetes were statistically significant variables affecting prevalence and severity, with females having a higher mean scores of depression and anxiety than males and higher scores with greater duration of the illness. Conclusions: This study implies need for routine screening of depression and anxiety symptoms in patients with diabetes mellitus and treating them at the earliest. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: We aimed to assess the service user's acceptability, feasibility, and attitude toward telemedicine practice and compare it with in-person consultation in substance use disorder (SUD). Materials and Methods: We recruited 15 adult patients with SUD who accessed both telemedicine and in-person care. We conducted in-depth interviews on awareness and access, facilitators and barriers, treatment satisfaction, and therapeutic relationship in the telemedicine context. We performed a conventional content analysis of the interview excerpts and used inductive and deductive coding. We assumed that social, personal, and logistic contexts influence patients' perceptions and experiences with telemedicine-based addiction care (TAC). Results: Most participants were middle-aged men (40.5 years, 86.7%), dependent on two or more substances (86.7%), and had a history of chronic, heavy substance use (use ~16 years, dependence ~11.5 years). Patients' perspectives on TAC could broadly be divided into three phases: pre-consultation, consultation, and post-consultation. Patients felt that TAC improved treatment access with adequate autonomy and control; however, there were technical challenges. Patients expressed privacy concerns and feared experiencing stigma during teleconsultation. They reported missing the elaborate inquiry, physical examination, and ritual of visiting their doctors in person. Additionally, personal comfort and technical difficulties determine the satisfaction level with TAC. Overall perception and suitability of TAC and the decision to continue it developed in the post-consultation phase. Conclusion: Our study provides an in-depth insight into the barriers and facilitators of telemedicine-based SUD treatment access, use, and retention; it also helps to understand better the choices and preferences for telehealth care vis-a-vis standard in-person care for SUDs. It is still not clear whether differential response of Bt cotton and conventional non-Bt cotton genotypes in terms of growth, phenology and yield ability are hypothetical or realistic. This study investigated the response of three Bt cotton hybrids in comparison to their conventional non-transgenic version (near-isogenic lines) along with two locally adapted genotypes for growth, yield attributes, phenological characteristics and rooting behavior. Therefore, two experiments were conducted during summer season of year 2016 and 2017 to evaluate differences among 3 popular Bt cotton hybrids along with their non-Bt version. First field experiment was conducted as a pot study wherein shoot and root parameters of 3 Bt cotton hybrids (Ankur 3028, MRC 7017, Bioseed 6588) were compared with their non-Bt version along with 2 local checks (i.e.,hirsutum cotton Cv. F2228 and arboreum cottonCv. FDK124). Second field experiment evaluated growth, phenological characteristics, yield attributes and productivity potential of above mentioned Bt and non-Bt hybrids. Findings of pot experiment could not establish any significant difference among studied Bt and non-Bt hybrids for root and shoot characteristics. However, arboreum cotton FDK124 exhibited higher root length than all genotypes. Results of second experiment revealed significant differences for phenological characteristics, wherein Bt version of all the tested hybrids exhibited earliness for flowering initiation, 50 % flowering and days to maturity over their non-Bt version. Seed cotton yield (SCY) in all hybrids possessing Bt gene was significantly higher than their non-Bt version primarily due to higher bolls plant-1. Studies conclude that introgression of Bt gene could not alter rooting parameters of evaluated cotton genotypes but significantly affected phenological stages by inducing earliness and higher SCY in Bt versions due to improved bolls plant-1. Background: This study aimed to investigate the associations between the Occupational Stress Index (OSI) and three chronic diseases, namely Hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and Lipid Disorders, among middle-aged individuals in Punjab. Material & Methods: This crosssectional study was conducted in Punjab, a state in northern India. Data collection was carried out between Jan 2023 and March 2023 in various occupational settings across the state. The data collection process involved both self-administered questionnaires and clinical assessments. The Occupational Stress Index questionnaire was used to assess occupational stress levels among participants. The collected data were entered into a statistical software program (SPSS version 25) for analysis. Results: The study included 400 participants, with an equal number (n=200) of males and females. The average age of male participants was 49.3 years, while for females, it was 47.8 years. The average BMI for males was 25.6, and for females, it was 26.9. The participants were distributed across various occupational sectors, including Manufacturing, Services, Healthcare, Administration, and Others. The prevalence of Hypertension among males was 20.0%, while among females, it was 17.5%. The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among males was 12.5%, and among females, it was 15.0%. The prevalence of Lipid Disorders among males was 27.5%, and among females, it was 25.0%. The distribution of OSI scores revealed that 27.5% of participants had Low Stress scores, 32.5% had Moderate Stress scores, and 40.0% had High Stress scores. It was found that a higher proportion of participants with Hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and Lipid Disorders had Moderate and High Stress scores. Participants with chronic diseases had higher mean OSI scores compared to those without chronic diseases, indicating higher levels of occupational stress. In North India, sub-soiling is required to alleviate the problem of soil compaction raised due to the use of heavy machinery. We have emphasized energy auditing to understand the practical feasibility of sub-soiling in cotton-wheat cropping system. Four sub-soiling treatments (cross and single side sub-soiling at 1.0 m, 1.5 m under both cases) in addition to conventional tillage were compared with conventional tillage alone at two sites. Sub-soiling improved crop yield by 13.5–33.7% in cotton and 13.0–22.0% in wheat as compared to control. Net monetary returns earned with sub-soiling were 98–408 and 159–287 US$/ha higher under cotton and wheat, respectively over control. Energy auditing suggested that sub-soiling treatments consumed 489–1504 MJ/ha extra energy in cotton season, however, net energy gain was higher in cotton (by 11,518–29,715 MJ/ha) and wheat (by 19,861–32,594 MJ/ha) over control. Energy use efficiency was higher under sub-soiling treatments in cotton (5.36–7.25) and wheat (9.55–10.46), whereas corresponding values under control were 4.64–6.18 and 8.18–8.36. Similarly, lesser specific energy was observed under sub-soiling treatments as compared to control. The present study concluded that sub-soiling increased cotton productivity and energetic returns as well as had the significant residual effect on wheat crop. This study concentrates on the taxonomic situation of the genus Pareronia (Bingham, 1907) in India and recommends revisions. There are three species of genus Pareronia in India and all these three species are evaluated under this study using the specimens from the collections located at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Kolkata. Based on the critical examination of morphological characters and well pronounced differences in the male genitalia, the status of Pareronia valareia hippia (Fabricius) is raised to species level and the dry season form of Pareronia avatar (Moore) form tarina, Fruhstorfer (1903), is upgraded to species level, Pareronia tarina. Aims and Objectives: It was to evaluate the usefulness of psychosocial intervention in promoting knowledge and awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol use in a sample of adolescents. Materials and Methods: The research design was a prospective, interventional nonrandomized control group design with two groups, one experimental group (interventional) and another control group. Ethical clearance was obtained from the institutional ethical committee. Samples were selected using the nonprobability convenience sampling technique in two schools district of Patiala, Punjab. The assessment instruments were as follows: (a) semi-structured sociodemographic pro forma, (b) alcohol use pro forma, (c) semi-structured interventional knowledge questionnaire, and (d) psychosocial intervention package. A psychosocial intervention package for the prevention of alcohol use among adolescents was provided to the experimental group. Results: The target intervention population consisted of adolescents in the age group (14-18) years. Nearly half of the subjects (47.5%) in the experimental and more than half of the subjects (57.5%) in the control group had a trend of alcohol use during family functions and social gatherings. The study's results revealed that in the preintervention baseline assessment, the adolescents had an average level of knowledge regarding the ill effects of alcohol use, and the mean score (±standard deviation [SD]) was 12.43 ± 2.645. After postintervention, an average level of knowledge was found to be improved regarding the ill effect of alcohol use, and the mean (±SD) knowledge level score was 19.60 ± 2.599. Discussion: The findings of this study showed that after psychosocial intervention among the experimental group, the knowledge level for minimizing alcohol consumption increased significantly. The participants reported abstinence from alcohol consumption in the experimental group after intervention. Conclusions: The salient findings from this study can be utilized to develop and implement effective psychosocial prevention strategies to tackle alcohol use in various parts of India. Introduction: Haptoglobin (Hp), an acute phase protein, is a plasma inflammatory marker. It is important in both infectious and non infectious illnesses. When intravascular haemolysis occurs, the dead red blood cells are discharged into the circulation and link to Hp to form the haemoglobin (Hb)-haptoglobin (Hb-Hp) complex that is recognised by the macrophage scavenger receptor CD163. The Hp1 and Hp2 are its two alleles. The Hp2 is formed by a partial duplication of the Hp1 gene. The Hp1 has five exons, but Hp2 has seven exons owing to the duplication of Hp1 third and fourth exon. There are three genotypes of Hp: Hp1-1, Hp2-1, and Hp2-2. The encoded products of genotypes are attached to haemoglobin with varying degrees of affinity: Hp1-1 has the most affinity, Hp2-1 has medium affinity, and Hp2-2 has the lowest affinity. Hp allelic and genotypic variation differs amongst populations and different geographic regions of the world. Aim: To study the haptoglobin 2-2 genotype in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular patients in north Indian population. Materials and Methods: It was a case-control study and a total of 200 participants were recruited randomly including 50 participants of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM), 50 participants of Cardiovascular Disorders (CVD), 50 participants with Cardiovascular Disorders With type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (CVDWDM) and 50 normal healthy controls from Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital and clinics and Aashirwad laboratory of Jalandhar, Punjab, India in February 2021 to January 2022. Anthropometric variables were determined by using standard methods and biochemical parameters were measured by commercial available kits. Allele specific Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) or Amplification Refractory Mutation System (ARMS) PCR was used to detect Hp genotypes. Data were represented as mean±Standard Deviation and the statistical difference i.e. p<0.05 between all parameters was determined by using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Anthropometric parameters i.e. Body Mass Index (BMI) was found to be statistically significant in CVDWDM as compared to CVD, N and T2DM i.e. p=0.023, p=0.01 and p=0.014. Waist Circumference (WC) was found to be statistically significant in CVDWDM as compared to CVD, N and T2DM i.e. p=0.02, p=0.013 and p=0.012 and Hip Circumference (HC) was found to be statistically significant in CVDWDM as compared to CVD, N and T2DM i.e. p=0.02, p=0.017 and p=0.014. However, Apolipoprotein A1 mean value was found to be higher and statistically significant i.e. p=0.03 in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) as compared to healthy participants. Triglycerides mean value was increased in T2DM as compared to CVD, CVD as compared to N and CVDWDM as compared to healthy controls (p-value=0.012,0.04,0.015, respectively). The findings had shown that a 349 bp band was detected in patients with T2DM, CVD and CVDWDM, implying that the Hp2-2 genotypes were observed but not in healthy controls. Conclusion: The study finds that people with DM, CVD, or CVDWDM all have a 349bp band. Introduction: A retrospective study was conducted to assess the morphology of mandibular canines using Orthopantomograph (OPG) in kodava population of south India. Materials and Methods: For the morphological assessment of mandibular canines 1000 images of opg's which were taken for different reasons by the patients were examined. The canal pattern, number of canals, the root length were evaluated and the effect of gender and bilateral symmetry were assessed. Collected data were analyzed by applying the non parametric tests and student's t-tests. Results: As per the radiological classification stated, the most common pattern was type I morphology (96.5 % on right, 97.2 % on left), followed by type II (2.8% on right, 2.6% on left), type IV (0.6% on right, 0.1% on left ), type III and V (0.1% on both right and left). No significant differences were observed between the male and female patients in terms of canal type, root length and root canal pattern (P>0.05).No significant statistical difference was observed for mentioned parameters on right and left half of the jaw. Conclusion: Due to the diverse morphology and the potential presence of extra canal in mandibular canine among Indians, greater care is required in performing endodontic treatments. Cellulose fibres derived from hemp stalks, a prevalent biowaste in Northern India, were effectively converted into carboxymethyl cellulose (HS-CMC). Novel environmentally benign hydrogels were synthesized from HS-CMC and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) using citric acid, a green crosslinker employing freeze-drying method. The HS-CMC/PVA hydrogels were successfully used for sustained release of fluoroquinolone antibiotic, norfloxacin. The hydrogels were characterized using FTIR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDS and thermal stability and evaluated for their carbonyl content, swelling ratio, in-vitro drug release behaviour and bactericidal properties. Successful isolation of cellulose from hemp stalks and its conversion into hydrogel with the presence of ester and carbonyl linkages was confirmed by FTIR. Thermal stability was impaired when cellulose fibres were converted into HS-CMC via carboxymethylation, as the crystalline structure was utterly disrupted. For the hydrogel, the equilibrium swelling ratios at pH -1.2 and 7.4 were assessed as 378.4 % and 538.7 %, respectively, higher than reported CMC hydrogels. The norfloxacin (NFX) encapsulated hydrogels exhibited good bactericidal properties with zone of inhibition of 19.2 ± 0.3 mm against E. coli and 16.4 ± 0.4 mm against S. aureus. The in-vitro release of NFX at pH 1.2 was 91 %, higher than pH 7.4 at 82 % with strong adherence to Higuchi kinetics model signifying that the release of NFX is via dissolution and diffusion. The release kinetics at different pH revealed Fickian behaviour establishing the potential of HS-CMC hydrogel for sustained release of norfloxacin. Surface flood (SF) method is used to irrigate cotton in India, which results in huge wastage of water besides leaching of nutrients. This necessitates the adoption of efficient management strategies to save scarce water without compromising the yield. Therefore, a 2-year field investigation was conducted under two climatic regimes (Faridkot and Abohar) to study the effect of subsurface drip fertigation (SSDF) on seed cotton yield (SCY), water productivity, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), and economic parameters in comparison with SF and surface drip fertigation (SDF). The field experiment had a total of eight treatments arranged in a randomized complete block design. Three levels of sub-surface drip irrigation [(SSDI); i.e., 60%, 80%, and 100% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc)] and two N fertigation levels [100% recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN; i.e., 112.5 kg N ha-1) and 75% RDN] made up six treatments, while SF (Control 1) and SDF at 80% ETc (Control 2), both with 100% of RDN, served as the controls. Among irrigation regimes, the SSDI levels of 80% ETc and 100% ETc recorded 18.7% (3,240 kg ha-1) and 21.1% (3,305 kg ha-1) higher SCY compared with SF (2,728 kg ha-1). Water use efficiency under SF (57.0%) was reduced by 34.2%, 40.8%, and 38.2% compared with SSDI's 60 (76.5%), 80 (80.3%), and 100% ETc (78.8%), respectively. Among fertigation levels, NUE was higher by 19.2% under 75% (34.1 kg SCY kg-1 N) over 100% RDN (28.6 kg SCY kg-1 N), but later it also registered 11.9% higher SCY, indicating such to be optimum for better productivity. SSDF at 80% ETc along with 112.5 kg N ha-1 recorded 26.6% better SCY (3455 kg ha-1) and 18.5% higher NUE (30.7 kg SCY kg-1 N) over SF. These findings demonstrate that the application of SSDF could save irrigation water, enhance SCY, and improve the farmers' returns compared with SF. Therefore, in northwestern India, SSDF at 80% ETc along with 112.5 kg N ha-1 could be a novel water-savvy concept which would be immensely helpful in enhancing cotton productivity. Introduction: Benign and malignant pelvic masses can occur in different age groups, primary diagnosis and choosing the appropriate surgical procedure is very important. Ultrasound (USG) is the diagnostic test of choice in evaluating pelvic masses, while Computed Tomography (CT) scan is most helpful as a second-line study, for in-depth evaluation of the abdomen and pelvis. Aim: To compare the findings of ultrasound and CT scans of pelvic masses with definitive histopathological or laboratory findings. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, Punjab, India, from December 2014 to September 2015. Sixty patients from Outpatient and Inpatient Department, with clinical suspicion of pelvic pathology, were evaluated sonographically and then by CT scan. Ultrasound characterisation of mass as high or low risk was done based on septae and solid part echogenicity. CT findings used to diagnose malignancy were cystic solid mass, necrosis in a solid lesion, cystic lesion with thick, irregular walls or septa, and/or papillary projections. The presence of ascites, lymphadenopathy, omental cake, peritoneal deposits, mesenteric deposits was noted to diagnose metastasis. Data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16.0. A p-value was calculated using Chi-square test. For finding, the level of agreement between USG/CT scan and histopathology, Kappa statistic was applied. Results: Ultrasound had sensitivity of 73.7%, specificity of 80.3%, Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of 53.8% and Negative Predictive Value (NPV) of 90.7%. Computed tomography scan had a sensitivity of 78%, specificity of 95.08%, PPV of 83.3%, and NPV of 93.5%. Kappa statistics showed moderate level of agreement between USG and histopathological findings (k=0.47, p-value=0.017) and good level of agreement between CT scan and histopathological findings (k=0.68, p-value=0.001). Conclusion: Ultrasound with its good sensitivity can be used as an effective screening modality for pelvic masses. This paper reviews and analyzes the impact of residue burning on the environment and human health, and the influence of ex-situ and in-situ residue management on reducing pollution and improving soil health, crop yield, and farmers' economic benefits. Paddy is cultivated on 43.8 Mha in India, producing 118.43 Mt grain and an estimated 165.8 Mt straw. Burning is the most common practice for managing rice crop residues mainly due to its simplicity, low cost, increased mechanical harvesting, short window between rice harvest and wheat sowing, and lack of viable uses for residues. Around 50 Mt of rice straw is burned annually, nearly half of which occurs in northwestern India during October/November. Burning residue is a major contributor to air pollution, emitting around 1.5 Mt particulate matter, 150 Mt carbon dioxide, and other greenhouse gases (e.g., NO2, SO2, CO, CH4, NH3) and volatile organic compounds, resulting in a wide range of respiratory infections in humans, reduced soil nutrient and carbon inputs, and disturbed soil microbial activity. In-situ residue management using a Happy Seeder, Super straw management system, paddy straw chopper cum spreader, reversible moldboard plow, or no-till seeder incorporates or mulches residues, avoiding burnings. These operations are economically profitable as they reduce costs, increase yields, or both. In-situ residue management, i.e., incorporation or mulching improves the soil's physical, chemical and biological properties and is considered better for improving soil health than residue removal. Background of the study: The stressful life of women is gaining more attention and has come into limelight as a prominent cause of dementia. Dementia is a concern for many women. The women in menopausal transition also seem to be most fearful of developing breast cancer, closely followed by Alzheimer's dementia. Dementia is one of the leading problems faced by the people worldwide now a days and a matter of worry too. Objective of the Study: To evaluate the effectiveness of structured cognitive stimulation on cognitive functioning among women. Research Methodology: True experimental research design was used in this study; sampling size was 60 mothers. Sampling technique used was simple random sampling method. Data were collected in Babarpur and Dadlana Villages in Panipat District. Haryana. Mini Mental Status Examination were used for data collection. Structured Cognitive Stimulation Program were given for 14 days to the mothers in experimental group. For the mothers in control group no special programs were administered. Data collected were analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: In experimental group the post-test mean and standard deviation dementia score was 24.47 + 2.389. the control group post-test mean and standard deviation dementia score was 18.00 + 3.129. the mean difference value was 6.47 Paired 't' test score was 8.997 for the degree of freedom 58. The 'P' value was 0.000, it was statistically significant at the level of significance < than 0.05. Conclusion: This research demonstrated the cognitive function score on cognitive functioning. However, the subjects with moderately cognitive score were positively benefitted and shifted towards questionably significant level of cognition. This provides a set of baseline data that can be cited for further studies. The Structured Cognitive Stimulation could be incorporated into pre-services or in-service education program in order to evaluate its effectiveness in different populations and settings. Background: Reports of periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome from developing countries are sparse. Recognizing PFAPA is often challenging in these regions due to a higher incidence of infectious illnesses and significant resource constraints. Herein, we present our experience from North India regarding the diagnosis and management of PFAPA syndrome. Methods: We reviewed cases of non-monogenic periodic fever syndrome diagnosed at our center from January 2011 to December 2021. A total of 17 children who fulfilled the Marshall criteria for PFAPA syndrome were included. Data regarding basic clinical features, treatment/outcome, and performance of the recently proposed Eurofever/PRINTO and Takeuchi criteria were analyzed. Results: Besides recurrent fever, the triad of oral aphthae, pharyngitis, and adenitis was noted in only 18% of patients. Episodes of exudative pharyngitis/tonsillitis were documented in 24%. These figures were lower than the values reported from developed countries. The Takeuchi and Eurofever/PRINTO criteria were fulfilled in 76% and 71% cases, respectively. In addition to antipyretics and supportive care, intermittent steroid therapy was the main treatment modality used. Additional treatment with colchicine (n = 3) and thalidomide (n = 1) was used successfully in a few patients. Before the diagnosis of PFAPA, all patients had received multiple courses of antimicrobials (without microbiological confirmation). These included multiple courses of antibacterials for fever, pharyngotonsillitis, and/or cervical adenitis in all patients and antivirals for fever and aphthous stomatitis in a patient. Empiric antitubercular therapy had also been administered in two patients. Conclusions: A significant proportion of patients with PFAPA seem to remain undiagnosed in the Indian subcontinent. Increased awareness and improvement in basic healthcare facilities are crucial in enhancing the recognition of PFAPA, which would eliminate the unprecedented scale of undesirable antimicrobial use in such children. Winter fog is a complex issue affecting human health and is responsible for higher numbers of traffic accidents in North India, which is further aggravated due to atmospheric pollutants. An indigenous glass-plate fog collector was used to collect fog water from December 2020 to February 2021. Thirty samples of fog water were collected from the rooftop of an academic building at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, in order to study the chemistry of fog water. The studied parameters were pH, electrical conductivity (EC), sodium (Na+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), potassium (K+) sulphate (SO42−), nitrate (NO3−), chloride (Cl−), aluminum (Al), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn). The average values were as follows: pH (4.6–7.5), EC (135 µS/cm), SO42− (77.5 ppm), Cl− (9.9 ppm), NO3− (9.3 ppm), Ca2+ (8.1 ppm), Mg2+ (2.0 ppm), K+ (2.0 ppm), Na+ (1.6 ppm), Zn (218 ppb), Al (60.8 ppb) and Pb (8.8 ppb). Cation–anion balance was used to assess the data's reliability. The enrichment factor (EF) was utilized to distinguish between crustal and anthropogenic sources. SO42−, NO3−, Cl− and K+ originated from anthropogenic sources, whereas Mg2+ and Na+ came from crustal sources. The molar ratio of sulphate to nitrate was 10.6, which indicates a greater contribution from the combustion of fossil fuels and stack emissions. Ionic species were subjected to principal component analysis (PCA) as a dimensionality reduction approach and to group species with comparable behavior. Three principal components (PC) that together accounted for 77.5 percent of the total variance were identified by PCA. Backward trajectory analysis of air masses was performed to determine their origin, and two major clusters explained 89 percent of the contribution of air masses, primarily from the north-east and north directions. Objective: To study the use of serial ultrasound gastric residual volume (GRV) measurements in predicting feed intolerance in critically ill patients. Patients and methods: This study was conducted in various intensive care units (ICUs) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Forty-three critically ill patients aged more than 18 years were studied for a total of 130 enteral feeding days. Gastric residual volume was obtained by calculating the antral cross-sectional area (CSA), which is the product of anteroposterior (AP) and craniocaudal (CC) diameters of gastric antrum obtained using ultrasound in the right lateral decubitus position. A baseline measurement was done before the initiation of the enteral feed and termed GRV0, the ultrasound scanning was repeated every 1 hour for the first 4 hours and termed GRV1, GRV2, GRV3, and GRV4, respectively, and the patients were watched for feed intolerance. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to correlate the GRV at each time with feed intolerance. Results: The data from 43 medical and surgical critically ill patients were analyzed. Out of 130 feeding days, 13 were noted to be feed intolerant. Gastric residual volume at the end of the fourth hour of feed, that is, GRV4 was the best predictor of feed intolerance with 99.3% area under the curve (AUROC), sensitivity of 99%, specificity of 99.3%, and 95% CI, 0.89-0.98 followed by GRV3, with AUROC of 96% and sensitivity and specificity of 92.3 and 96%, respectively, with 95% CI, 0.92-0.99. Introduction: Although most of the disease burden internationally is due to tobacco smoking, smokeless tobacco (SLT) use contributed to an estimated 76 000 deaths in 2017. We have studied the potential risk factors for SLT use among adolescents in South India.Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey of all students in grades 6-8 in schools in the Udupi district of Karnataka State ascertained SLT use status and potential determinants of SLT uptake. Ever SLT use was defined as any reported consumption of any SLT products, currently or at any time in the past. Independent effects on ever SLT use status were estimated using multiple logistic regression.Results: Of 46 706 students from 914 participating schools, 39 282 (84.1%) provided questionnaire responses sufficiently complete for analysis. Ever SLT use was reported by 775 (2.0%) participants and in a mutually adjusted model was significantly related to age, male sex, family use, or friend's use of SLT, low socioeconomic status, high rebelliousness, and low self-esteem. After controlling for these effects, the odds of ever-SLT use were significantly higher among students who had least awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco use (odds ratio 3.7, 95% confidence interval [2.9, 4.7]) and significantly lower among those not exposed to tobacco advertising (odds ratio 0.7, 95% confidence interval [0.5, 0.8]).Conclusions: The prevalence of SLT use among children in Karnataka is relatively low when compared with other studies in India. The significant potential risk factors of SLT use include low awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco and tobacco control policies and exposure to tobacco advertising.Implications: The prevalence of SLT use among school going adolescents in South India is relatively low. The potential risk factors for SLT use among adolescents in southern India are similar to those for smoked tobacco. It includes age, male gender, family or friend's use of SLT, low socioeconomic status, high rebelliousness, low self-esteem, exposure to tobacco advertisement and least awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and of tobacco control policies. Susac Syndrome (SS) is a rare unique autoimmune underdiagnosed disorder characterized by the clinical triad of central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction, sensorineural hearing impairment, and branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO). Objectives The purpose of reporting the case is to succinctly highlight this enigmatic condition with focus on otological and audiological aspect of SS and also to augment awareness of this disease among otolaryngologists neurologists, psychiatrists and ophthalmologists. Additionally we reviewed the otological menifestations and audiological findings related to SS. Methods A case of 38 year old female is presented with bilateral SNHL as the initial symptom of SS. The review of otological and audiological findings of previous 10 year case reports was executed using the PRISMA protocol on 20 cases. Results It was seen that inspite of the ear being one of the main organs involved in the SS very few had undergone detailed audiological assessment. Our review of literature showed that only 40% cases had done audiological assessment other than PTA, out of which only 5% had undergone complete audiological workup. 30% of the patients were having auditory symptoms as presenting chief complaint. Conclusion Otolyryngologists should keep SS in differentials when a case of SNHL of unknown etiology is encountered.We emphasize the use newer noninvasive Powered by Editorial Manager® and ProduXion Manager® from Aries Systems Corporation diagnostic tools like Optical coherence tomography (OCT), MRI and detailed audiological tests for timely diagnosis of SS. This research paper is devoted to measure the activity contents of natural radionuclide, like, radium (226Ra), thorium (232Th) and potassium (40K) in the soil gathered along the Jwalamukhi thrust of Himachal Pradesh, North Western Himalayas, India. NaI(Tl) Scintillator detector was utilized for the estimation of activity content. The activity concentration of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K for some of the soil samples have been observed to be above the global normal mean values. The outcomes acquired for indoor and outdoor effective dosage are well below the normal international and national proposed results. The determined values of external hazard (Hex) for studied locations are less than unity, therefore; samples assembled from these regions are safe from a health hazard point of view and can be utilized as a construction purposes without producing any radio-logical hazard to human beings. The average estimations of radium equivalent activity were found to be within the limits suggested by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The present study tracked the city-wide dynamics of severe acute respiratory syndrome-corona virus 2 ribonucleic acids (SARS-CoV-2 RNA) in the wastewater from nine different wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Jaipur during the second wave of COVID-19 out-break in India. A total of 164 samples were collected weekly between February 19th and June 8th, 2021. SARS-CoV-2 was detected in 47.2% (52/110) influent samples and 37% (20/54) effluent samples. The increasing percentage of positive influent samples correlated with the city's increasing active clinical cases during the second wave of COVID-19 in Jaipur. Furthermore, wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) evidence clearly showed early detection of about 20 days (9/9 samples reported positive on April 20th, 2021) before the maximum cases and maximum deaths reported in the city on May 8th, 2021. The present study further observed the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in treated effluents at the time window of maximum active cases in the city even after tertiary disinfection treatments of ultraviolet (UV) and chlorine (Cl2) disinfection. The average genome concentration in the effluents and removal efficacy of six commonly used treatments, activated sludge process + chlorine disinfection (ASP + Cl2), moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) with ultraviolet radiations disinfection (MBBR + UV), MBBR + chlorine (Cl2), sequencing batch reactor (SBR), and SBR + Cl2, were compared with removal efficacy of SBR + Cl2 (81.2%) > MBBR + UV (68.8%) > SBR (57.1%) > ASP (50%) > MBBR + Cl2 (36.4%). The study observed the trends and prevalence of four genes (E, RdRp, N, and ORF1ab gene) based on two different kits and found that prevalence of N > ORF1ab > RdRp > E gene suggested that the effective genome concentration should be calculated based on the presence/absence of multiple genes. Using the staggered introduction of fast-track debt recovery courts in India, we estimate the causal effect of a reduction in debt contract enforcement costs on financing and asset maturity. A reduction in enforcement costs is associated with an increase in long-term debt and a decrease in short-term debt and trade credit. The increase in debt maturity is confined to firms that borrow from multiple lenders, have abnormally short debt maturity structures before the reform, and to smaller firms. Introduction Extradural hematoma diagnosed more than 14 days after head injury is classified as a chronic extradural hematoma (CEDH). In the present study, we presented a series of 8 patients with CEDH in a span of 6 months. Materials and Methods In this article, we reported 8 cases of CEDH who presented to Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, within a span of 6 months. Discussion Extratemporal epidural hematomas (EDHs) are often due to venous bleeding from the diploic veins or dural sinuses or to delayed rupture of a middle meningeal pseudoaneurysm. In these cases, cerebrospinal fluid may redistribute from the lateral ventricles and thus allowing room for the enlarging hematoma producing vague neurological symptoms and signs. The incidence rate of CEDH reported in the literature ranges from 3.9 to 30% of all EDHs. Computed tomography (CT) scan in CEDH often shows a low-density center surrounded by a high-density margin. Calcification of the displaced dura mater may also occur. Some are identified incidentally, whereas others are diagnosed when investigating for persistent and/or progressive neurological symptoms. Symptomatic CEDH should be surgically evacuated and has an excellent outcome the earlier it is done. In patients with no or mild symptoms, normal neurological status, and a small-sized CEDH spontaneous resolution may be expected. Conclusion In the post-CT era, it is always said that CEDH is a rare entity. Monsoon intraseasonal oscillations (MISOs) define a significant proportion of intraseasonal variability of the Indian summer monsoon. In the backdrop of increasing temperatures related to global warming, it is expected that MISOs would exhibit more spatio-temporal variability, prompting an increased frequency of extreme events. Hence, the present study investigates the observed changes in the characteristics of long (≥ 7 days) and short (< 7 days) active and break spells in the early twenty-first century (2001–2019) in comparison with the late twentieth century (1982–2000). In the recent period, a decreased (increased) frequency of the short (long) active/break spells along with a strengthening of short spells has been noticed. An east–west asymmetry in the spatial distribution of rainfall is further noted with western India experiencing intensified (weakened) active (break) spells. Contrariwise, the central and eastern parts of the country witness weakening (intensification) of active (break) spell in the early twenty-first century. A comprehensive composite investigation of various dynamical and thermodynamical parameters reveals an increase in the strength of low-level winds in the Arabian Sea, thereby increasing the moisture convergence and instability over the western Indian region and the nearby oceanic regions, resulting in the observed east–west asymmetry in the rainfall spatial distribution. Increased intensity of the equatorial Madden–Julian oscillation and its coupling with the northward propagating MISO spells seem to play a pivotal role in lengthening the active/break spells. Purpose: Studies in India have examined the relation of rapid automatized naming (RAN), reading fluency (RF), phonological awareness (PA), spelling ability, and language ability with reading comprehension (RC) in English in children where English is taught for the purpose of education. However, the predictor variables of RC have not been explored. Aim: To propose a structural model for RC in English in children with mother tongue Marathi studying in English medium schools. Materials and Methods: Participants included 80 children with mother tongue Marathi (Grades 1 and 2) in English medium schools. A battery of test for the assessment of language, RAN, PA, RF, spelling and RC in English was administered. Smart PLS 3.0 was used for the analysis of data. Results: The final model proposed had loadings > 0.708, composite reliabilities > 0.7, and AVE of all constructs > 0.5. Discriminant validity of the model was ascertained as the values were less than the heterotraitmonotrait (HTMT) criteria of 0.85 for all components. 86% of variance in RC was explained by language ability (β = 0.409, P < 0.001) and RF (β = 0.453, P < 0.001), when RF was mediated by RAN-letter (β = 0.348, P < 0.001), and PA (β = 0.384, P < 0.001). Conclusion: The structural model proposed in the study is reliable and valid. Language ability and RF have significant influence on RC, and RAN-letter and PA have a significant mediating role in the relationship between RF and RC. Rajasthan state of India is prone to recurrent droughts; hence, exploring drought severities over the semi-arid Sahibi river basin is crucial for drought management. To investigate drought severity, the Rainfall Anomaly Index (RAI) was applied at two time spans, such as annual (January to December) and the monsoon season (June to September), using long-term daily rainfall data (1961–2017) for nine rain gauge stations. Similarly, for the examination of various drought characteristics like magnitude, duration and intensity, run theory analysis was used. Trends in rainfall, drought severity, magnitude, duration and intensity were computed by employing both parametric (simple linear regression) and non-parametric (Mann–Kendall and Sen's slope) tests, while spatial pattern maps of rainfall and drought characteristics were prepared using geographical information system. The analysis of rainfall records revealed a declining trend in eastern and central parts, whereas remaining areas of the basin witnessed an increasing trend during two time spans. During the study period, drought occurrence varied both geographically and temporally. The extreme, severe and moderate drought events were more common during monsoon season. Amongst the stations, Tapukara, Bairath and Mundawar rain gauge stations experienced the largest number of drought events compared to other stations. At both time scales, the most extreme droughts in the Sahibi basin occurred in 1979, 1986, 1987, 1989 and 2002. At the annual time span, the basin had the longest drought duration of 300 days, with a drought magnitude of − 758.3 mm. Likewise, the Tapukara rain gauge station had the longest dry spell of 310 days, followed by Behrod and Kotkasim (306 days each), Kotputli and Tijara (305 days each) and Mundawar (303 days). This paper seeks to explore certain gateways and possibilities of dealing with distress, despair, anxiety, angst, trauma and disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in diverse arenas of human activities to ascertain how crucial a role spiritual tourism plays in coping with the challenges we face today. It will also take into account mystical, sufic, yogic, ayurvedic and other meditational practices that represent the richly diverse cultural and spiritual heritage of India. These practices have substantial bearing on the tourism industry by connecting tourists with their deeper, inner selves and thus providing much required spiritual solace. The inclusive and integrative aspect of spiritual and other meditational practices in India will also be underscored to demonstrate how these have been influencing and benefiting the tourism industry in India.
