The author recalls her experiences with her mother Yin Marsh when for the first time she mentioned the months she spent in a Chinese internment camp in India. She mentions that through her storytelling, her mother wanted to present an educational example of the danger of emphasizing divisions along ethnic and racial lines. She further informs about the memoir "Doing Time with Nehru" written by her mother which explores her living in India at the time of the 1962 India-China Border War.
