The article explores the detrimental effects of expanding rubber plantations on the environment and local communities in Tripura, India. It highlights the conversion of natural forests, bamboo gardens, jhum cultivation, and farmland into rubber plantations, leading to deforestation and loss of biodiversity. The use of chemicals in rubber processing has resulted in soil degradation and contamination. Additionally, the rapid growth of rubber plantations has caused environmental degradation, including changes in temperature, rainfall, and soil quality. The study concludes that the negative impacts outweigh the benefits, as traditional livelihoods and biodiversity are at risk. [Extracted from the article]
