Text classification involves organizing textual information into predefined classes, a task which is particularly useful in domains like sentiment analysis, spam detection, and content labeling. In India, where a massive amount of information is generated daily through newspapers and social media, Hindi is one of the most widely used and spoken languages. However, there is limited research on Hindi text classification and, particularly, regarding Hindi news classification. This paper presents a research study to classify Hindi news articles published in Hindi-language newspapers in India by using and comparing various Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) algorithms. To prepare the textual news data for classification, pre-processing and feature engineering techniques, such as count vectorizer, Tf-Idf vectorizer and Doc2Vec, were used and applied to convert texts into vectors. This pre-processing step on the textual data was very challenging due to the presence of multimodal words, conjunctions, punctuation, and special characters in Hindi texts. The study considered Hindi news headlines from predetermined categories (Science, Sports, Entertainment and Business) and, among the different ML and DL models tested and evaluated, Linear Regression with Doc2Vec vectorizer and SGD classifier with Tf-Idf vectorizer produced best accuracies of 97.04% and 96.59%, respectively. Introduction: Hypertension, the "Silent, Invisible killer" - is a modern day's universal epidemic. The adult populations in slum area are more vulnerable for hypertension as they are so busy in the fulfilment of even day to day basic needs and care, family commitments and economic stress. Aim and objectives: To estimate the prevalence of hypertension among the adults (25-44 years) and to study the effect of sleep on blood pressure levels. Methodology: The present cross-sectional study was carried among adults aged between 25 to 44 years residing in the slums of Meerut District. 30 Cluster Sampling technique was used. The slum was selected as a cluster unit. During the visit by house-to-house survey, members of the family were listed and eligible person were interviewed and examined. Data collected on a structured and pretested questionnaire. Results: Prevalence of hypertension among those who had sleep duration of >8 hours per day was 44.8% followed by 20.1% and 17.5% among those who had 7-8 hours and less than 7 hours of sleep time respectively. It was found that 24.2% monophasic sleep pattern follower were hypertensives while the prevalence was 19.4% in biphasic pattern. Conclusion: Majority (55.4%) had a sleep duration between 7-8 hours, followed by 33.9% and 10.7% with <7 hours and >8 hours of sleep time respectively. Small and medium farmers have the highest lands under cultivation in India and have been diversifying crop production to fruits and vegetables to some extent in India. In this context, the current research paper deals with the processing linkages for Punjab's small- to medium-sized tomato farmers in the Amritsar district. A sample of 120 farmers surveyed from the two tomato blocks is analyzed using a stepwise linear regression model. The results highlight that small to medium-sized farmers linked with the processing industry earned 12% higher income compared to farmers who are not linked. To understand what factors, affect farmers’ channel choice a binary logistic regression model is further used. The results highlight that farmers who are socially active and more connected to extension services and co-operatives are 9.87 times more likely to choose linkage with the processing industry. The results also highlight the need to develop entrepreneurial skills among farmers for diversification of their crop and marketing channels, ultimately for achieving higher income from tomato farming. This study is principally the first to test a moderated mediation model of COVID-19 fear and job satisfaction in the Quality of Work Life (QWL)-commitment relationship of medical teachers during the pandemic. The conceptual model draws its theoretical tenet from spillover and conservation of resources theories. Cluster sampling was incorporated from four metropolitan cities in India. A mixed-method research design was administered to 378 medical teachers amidst the pandemic. The partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLSSEM) results indicate a significant positive association between the constructs. Path analyses have highlighted positive associations between QWL, job satisfaction, and affective commitment to medical institutions. Further, a partial mediation effect of job satisfaction in the QWL-commitment relationship is highlighted, adding a new dimension to past studies. Intriguingly, each of the positive associations between QWL, job satisfaction, and commitment was negated and significantly moderated by the fear of COVID-19 experienced by the medical teaching fraternity. The findings offer practical implications to the stakeholders (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Higher Education, Government of India, and State Governments) in enriching the QWL, job satisfaction, and medical teachers' commitment induced by psychological stress, anxiety, role conflict, post-traumatic stress disorder, and fear of COVID-19 in the global pandemic. The rapid depletion and deterioration of groundwater in the Ganga River Basin requires an effective water management plan for sustained water availability. An airborne electromagnetic study in the Ganga‐Yamuna doab, India, supplemented with drilling and logging data to address the groundwater crisis, has unraveled exhaustive aquifer information with a discovery of 45 km long buried river, having dimensions comparable to those of Ganga and Yamuna. This ancient river, likely to be extending toward the Himalaya, is characterized by a porous and permeable structures and is hydrogeologically linked with Ganga and Yamuna rivers through an underlying principal aquifer, which might hold a great promise for management of the current declining groundwater resources in the region. Interestingly, the location of this major paleoriver falls within the region where a lost mythological river was believed to be flowing in the past. The results add a new physical dimension to this belief. Paleochannels typically act as pathways for groundwater movement and provide a potential source of groundwater. Their presence can be helpful in identifying areas suitable for recharge and at times in mitigating contamination problems in afflicted regions. Thus, mapping of paleochannels is significant in the planning and management of groundwater resources. An airborne electromagnetic (AEM) system employing dual pulse moments has been used extensively for this purpose in India. This paper presents the results over paleochannels defined in three different terranes. In northwest India, a 100 m wide by 80 m deep paleochannel within alluvium overlaying a Proterozoic basement illustrates the impact of neotectonic disturbances in changing the river course. In northeast India's Ganga Plains, a paleochannel is mapped that provides insight into managing groundwater resources of areas polluted with arsenic. In this paper an attempt has been made to make a smart machine that can help women when they feel unsafe. Women can get faster support and higher security by pressing the device's emergency button. In the event of an incident, this device can trace the location of the user in actual time and send it to the nearest police station and volunteers [5]. The user can find a secure area nearby with this device as well. Additionally, this gadget works on both online and offline modes. Whether no internet is available, the user can still use the gadget to access the nearest police station and volunteer support. Purpose: To analyze the efficacy of scleral buckling in the hands of vitreo-retina (VR) fellows under training in eyes with retinal detachment associated with retinal dialysis and analyze the patient and retinal characteristics in these eyes., Methods: We carried out a retrospective consecutive case review at a tertiary eye care center in North India. Records of all the patients who had undergone scleral buckling (SB) for retinal dialysis-associated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment by VR fellows (with less than 2 years' experience) between January 2017 and January 2020 were reviewed., Results: Fifty-three eyes of 53 patients with a mean age of 20.77 years were analyzed. Of the patients, 73.58% were males. History of eye trauma was present in 71.69% patients. A total of 21 residents operated these 53 eyes. SB was able to achieve retinal attachment in a single surgery in 84.9% (45/53) eyes. Mean preoperative best corrected visual acuity was 1.9 ± 1.05 log of minimum angle of resolution (logMAR), which improved postoperatively to 1.07 ± 0.72 logMAR ( P < 0.001). Surgical success rate was 85.71% (24/28) in eyes with no proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), 66.66% (2/3) in eyes with PVR-A, 91.66% (11/12) in eyes with PVR-B, and 80% (8/10) in eyes with PVR-C1. Fifty-two eyes had a single dialysis and one eye had two separate dialysis. Six eyes had giant retinal dialysis (dialysis greater than 3 clock hours) and all were due to trauma. Five patients had retinal dialysis in the fellow eye and were diagnosed with bilateral idiopathic retinal dialysis., Conclusion: Scleral buckling is a safe and effective management for retinal dialysis retinal detachment even in the hands of VR fellows under training., (Copyright © 2024 Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.)

There is an annual epidemic of viral conjunctivitis at the onset of the monsoon (rainy) season in North India. This affects a large population, with many patients developing ocular symptoms and then getting better without any treatment as there is no specific therapy for adenoviral infections. However, this creates a dangerous situation for patients with operated trabeculectomy with a filtering bleb as conjunctivitis can lead to blebitis and bleb-related endophthalmitis with super-added bacterial/fungal infections. While the viral infection is self-limiting and most patients get well without treatment, urgent medical attention is required if patients with operated trabeculectomy develop this condition. It is important to educate all patients with operated glaucoma about the outbreak of conjunctivitis and explain the danger signs (like redness, sensitivity to light, vision decrease and pain, which require immediate medical attention and initiation of broad-spectrum antibiotics if a delay is anticipated in visiting the hospital., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© BMJ Publishing Group Limited 2024. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an epithelial tumour with a distinctive racial and geographical distribution. High incidence of NPC has been reported from China, Southeast Asia, and northeast (NE) region of India. The immune mechanism plays incredibly role in pathogenesis of NPC. Tumour necrosis factors (TNFs) and heat shock protein 70 (HSP 70) constitute significant components of innate as well as adaptive host immunity. Multi-analytical approaches including logistic regression (LR), classification and regression tree (CART) and multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) were applied in 120 NPC cases and 100 controls to explore high order interactions among TNF-α (-308 G>A), TNF β (+252 A>G), HSP 70-1 (+190 G>C), HSP 70-hom (+2437 T>C) genes and environmental risk factors. TNF β was identified as the primary etiological factor by all three analytical approaches. Individual analysis of results showed protective effect of TNF β GG genotype (adjusted odds ratio (OR2) = 0.27, 95 % CI = 0.125-0.611, P = 0.001), HSP 70 (+2437) CC genotype (OR2 = 0.17, 95 % CI = 0.0430.69, P = 0.013), while AG genotype of TNF β was found significantly associated with risk of NPC (OR2 = 1.97, 95 % CI = 1.019-3.83, P = 0.04). Analysis of environmental factors demonstrated association of alcohol consumption, living in mud houses and use of firewood for cooking as major risk factors for NPC. Individual haplotype association analysis showed significant risk associated with GTGA haplotype (OR = 68.61, 95 % CI = 2.47-190.37, P = 0.013) while a protective effect with CCAA and GCGA haplotypes (OR = 0.19, 95 % CI = 0.05-0.75, P = 0.019; OR = 0.01 95 % CI = 0.05-0.30, P = 0.007). The multi-analytical approaches applied in this study helped in identification of distinct gene-gene and gene-environment interactions significant in risk assessment of NPC.

High incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has been reported from China, Southeast Asia and Northeast (NE) region of India. Populations at geographic regions having higher incidence of NPC display human leukocyte antigen (HLA) distribution patterns different from areas having low incidence. The current study has investigated the contribution of environmental risk factors and ethnic variation of microsatellite markers in HLA region for the high incidence of NPC in NE India. Genotyping of HLA region using 33 microsatellite markers by fragment length analysis was done in 220 study subjects (120 NPC patients and 100 healthy controls). Association analysis showed two adjacent microsatellite markers HL003 (allele 121) and D6S2704 (allele 218) in the HLA class I region having association with high risk of NPC while allele 127 of HL003 and allele 255 of D6S2678 conferred a protective effect. The environmental factors mainly use of firewood (odds ratio (OR) = 3.797385, confidence interval (CI) = 1.97-7.30, P < 0), living in mud house (OR = 3.46, CI = 1.19-10.08, P = 0.022) and consumption of alcohol (OR = 2.11, CI = 1.02-4.37, P = 0.043) were found as major risk factors for NPC. Higher-order interaction showed combination of smoked food consumption and firewood use for cooking in multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) analysis and interaction of non-firewood users, non-ventilated houses and residence in mud houses in classification and regression tree (CART) analysis as the significant risk factors for NPC. Expression of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) RNA was found in 92% (23/25) of NPC cases suggesting its significant role in NPC aetiopathogenesis. This study identified association of NPC with a susceptibility locus in the HLA class I region which has complex interaction with viral DNA and environmental factors.
