Background: The management of frozen shoulder (FS) differs depending on experience level and variation between scientific guidelines and actual practice. Purpose: To determine the current trends and practices in the management of FS among shoulder specialists and compare them with senior shoulder specialists. Study Design: Consensus statement. Methods: A team of 15 senior shoulder specialists (faculty group) prepared a questionnaire comprising 26 questions regarding the definition, terminology, clinical signs, investigations, management, and prognosis of FS. The questionnaire was mailed to all the registered shoulder specialists of Shoulder and Elbow Society, India (SESI) (specialist group; n = 230), as well as to the faculty group (n = 15). The responses of the 2 groups were compared, and levels of consensus were determined: strong (>75%), broad (60%-74.9%), inconclusive (40%-59.9%), or disagreement (<40%). Result: Overall, 142 of the 230 participants in the specialist group and all 15 participants in the faculty group responded to the survey. Both groups strongly agreed that plain radiographs are required to rule out a secondary cause of FS, routine magnetic resonance imaging is not indicated to confirm FS, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be administered at bedtime, steroid injection (triamcinolone or methylprednisolone) is the next best option if analgesics fail to provide pain relief, passive physical therapy should be avoided in the freezing phase, <10% of patients would require any surgical intervention, and patients with diabetes and thyroid dysfunction tend to fare poorly. There was broad agreement that routine thyroid dysfunction screening is unnecessary for women, a single 40-mg steroid injection via intra-articular route is preferred, and arthroscopic capsular release (ACR) results in a better outcome than manipulation under anesthesia (MUA). Agreement was inconclusive regarding the use of combined random blood sugar (RBS) and glycosylated hemoglobin versus lone RBS to screen for diabetes in patients with FS, preference of ACR versus MUA to treat resistant FS, and the timing of surgical intervention. There was disagreement over the most appropriate term for FS, the preferred physical therapy modality for pain relief, the most important movement restriction for early diagnosis of FS, and complications seen after MUA. Conclusion: This survey summarized the trend in prevalent practices regarding FS among the shoulder specialists and senior shoulder surgeons of SESI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The COVID-19 is disproportionally affecting the poor, minorities and a broad range of vulnerable populations, due to its inequitable spread in areas of dense population and limited mitigation capacity due to high prevalence of chronic conditions or poor access to high quality public health and medical care. Moreover, the collateral effects of the pandemic due to the global economic downturn, and social isolation and movement restriction measures, are unequally affecting those in the lowest power strata of societies. To address the challenges to health equity and describe some of the approaches taken by governments and local organizations, we have compiled 13 country case studies from various regions around the world: China, Brazil, Thailand, Sub Saharan Africa, Nicaragua, Armenia, India, Guatemala, United States of America (USA), Israel, Australia, Colombia, and Belgium. This compilation is by no-means representative or all inclusive, and we encourage researchers to continue advancing global knowledge on COVID-19 health equity related issues, through rigorous research and generation of a strong evidence base of new empirical studies in this field. Abstract: GieysztoriaRuebush and Hayes, 1939, the most species-rich genus of limnic rhabdocoels (Platyhelminthes: Dalyelliidae), is subdivided into several groups based on stylet morphology. Most taxa are known from the Palearctic and the Neotropics. Very little is known about limnic, free-living flatworms in other tropical and subtropical regions. In this contribution five new species of Gieysztoria are described from India, Australia and South Africa, all former Gondwanan fragments. Gieysztoria garudae n.sp., G. ashokae n.sp. and G. ramayana n.sp. were collected in Goa (India), G. stokesi n.sp. in the Northern Territory (Australia) and G. zuluensis n.sp. in KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). All these new species share a typical, very complex stylet morphology, which deviates strongly from that of the groups into which the bulk of the other species within this genus are classified. Therefore a new subgroup, the “Falcatae”, is erected. In addition, four known species could also be included in this subgroup. Possible homologies, common ancestry and biogeographic distribution patterns are discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Summary: Neptunia natans is a unique aquatic legume indigenous to tropical and sub-tropical regions and is nodulated symbiotically by rhizobia using an unusual infection process unlike any previously described. Previously, isolates of neptunia-nodulating rhizobia from Senegal were characterized as Allorhizobium undicola. Here we report on a different group of neptunia-nodulating rhizobia isolated from India. Sequencing of the 16S rDNA gene from two of these Indian isolates (strains J1T and J2) show that they belong in the genus Devosia rather than Allorhizobium. Currently, the only described Devosia species is D. riboflavina(family Hyphomicrobiaceae, order Rhizobiales). The complete 16S rDNA sequences of strains J1T and J2 are 95.9% homologous to the type strain, D.riboflavina LMG 2277T, suggesting that these neptunia-nodulating strains from India belong to a new Devosia species. This hypothesis was confirmed by further studies of polyphasic taxonomy (DNA-DNA hybridisation, TP-RAPD patterns, SDS-PAGE of cellular proteins, 16S rDNA RFLP patterns, carbon source utilisation, cellular fatty acid analysis and other phenotypic characterisations), all of which support the proposal that these neptunia-nodulating strains constitute a new Devosia species, which we name Devosia neptuniae sp. nov. These Gram negative, strictly aerobic short rods are motile by a subpolar flagellum, positive for catalase, oxidase, urease and b-galactosidase, can utilise several carbohydrates (but not organic acids) as carbon sources and contain C18:0 3-OH, cis-7 C18:1 11-methyl and cis-7 C18:1 as their major cellular fatty acids. Unlike D. riboflavina, the longer-chain C24:1 3-OH and C26:1 3-OH hydroxy fatty acids are not detected. The type strain of D. neptuniae is LMG 21357T (CECT 5650T). Assignment of this new taxon represents the fourth example in the literature of a non-rhizobial genus of bacteria capable of forming a bonafide dinitrogen-fixing root-nodule symbiosis with legume plants.
