Male breast cancer is a rare disease, accounting for less than 1% of all cases of breast cancer. However, the incidence of male breast cancer is increasing. In this study, we systematically analyzed the cases of male breast cancer and evaluated the management of operable male breast cancer in daily clinical practice according to the international clinical guidelines. Data of male breast cancer characteristics and management were recorded from our electronic database. We present a case series of male breast cancer patients treated at our institution between 2013 and 2021 and summarize the recommendations on management of male patients with breast cancer. Twenty-six patients met the search criteria. The majority of tumors were hormone-receptor positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative. Two tumors were derived from axillary accessory breast. All patients underwent mastectomy. Fifteen patients received adjuvant chemotherapy containing anthracycline or taxane. Ten patients received adjuvant radiotherapy for lymph node metastasis. Twenty-five patients received adjuvant endocrine therapy. None of patients received anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 therapy. During the median follow-up period of 37 months, one patient died of previous lung cancer recurrence and one patient developed lung metastases 2 years after breast surgery. No recurrence or distant metastasis occurred in the other twenty-four patients. The incidence of male breast cancer is low. In this study, we present twenty-six cases of male patients with operable breast cancer in our department. All of them received surgery and adjuvant treatment. Early diagnosis and combined therapy benefit male patients with breast cancer. Surgery together with adjuvant treatment can bring a good prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anastomotic leak (AL) is a major morbid complication after colorectal surgery. There are only few articles to find the predictors of leak after colorectal anastomoses that have been published in the literature. The aim of this study is to identify different predictors for colorectal AL in Indian set up. Historical data were collected from the hospital record of patients from June 2005 to April 2014. In prospective period, from May 2014 to February 2016, colorectal surgery patients were recruited to collect the data. Various preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative factors for AL were analyzed using Student's t test and Chi square test. The p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant for all results. The AL rate was 9.1%. The predictors for AL were comorbidities like cerebrovascular accident (CVA) (p < 0.05), alcohol intake and smoking habit (p = 0.006), preoperative low albumin (AL in 21.2%), emergency surgery (AL in 25% with p = 0.016), jejuno-colic anastomosis − 1/1 (100%), and maximum AL in ligation of ileocolic artery (p = 0.019). History of CVA, smoking, alcohol, hypoalbuminemia, emergency surgery, type of surgery, and high artery ligation have significant role in causing AL in a patient of colorectal surgery. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has shaken the health-care infrastructure worldwide and has led to enormous challenges for cancer patients. They are suffering on various fronts during this pandemic, especially the often overlooked ones such as logistic and socioeconomic. Through the case series, we have highlighted the various components of these challenges the cancer patients are facing and tried to emphasize that the health-care setups and government along with nongovernmental organizations have to come on the forefront to help the patients mitigate these challenges. Background: The rationale of this study is to reveal the statistics of pediatric chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients.Subjects and Methods: It is a retrospective analysis conducted to assess pediatric CML data from January 1998 to December 2014. There are 65 (3.2%) pediatric CML patients out of entire 2008 patients of CML. Data were analyzed regarding epidemiological characteristics, clinical presentations, response and side effects of imatinib, event-free survival, and overall survival of the pediatric CML patients.Results: The median age of diagnosis was 11.84 years, and 76.9% patients were male and 23.07% patients were female. Sixty (92.3%) patients were in CML-chronic phase, 3 (4.6%) patients in CML-accelerated phase, and 2 (3.07%) patients in CML-blastic crisis. Most common initial symptoms and signs are weakness (60.0%), abdominal pain (55.38%), splenomegaly (100%), and hepatomegaly (86.5%). 67.3% of patients have white blood counts <100 × 109/L and 92.3% had platelets >150 × 109/L. In the initial months of 2002, imatinib was available and utilized in 54 patients. Of 54 patients, complete hematological response at 3 months, partial cytogenetic response at 6 months, complete cytogenetic response at 12 months, and major molecular response (MMR) at 18 months were 77.77%, 59.2%, 48.14%, and 40.74%, respectively. MMR at 36 months was 62.96% ( n = 34). Most common imatinib-related side effects are gastrointestinal upset and myelosuppression.Conclusion: Pediatric CML in India is comparable with Western countries regarding epidemiological characteristic, clinical presentations, and tolerance of imatinib. Background: India has one of the highest road traffic accident rates in the world. To lessen this burden, information on the contributing factors is necessary. Materials and Methods: We studied a series of cases of non-fatal road traffic accidents in two tertiary care hospitals in Pimpri, Pune, India. A total of 212 non-fatal road traffic accidents admitted over a period of one year in these two hospitals constituted the study sample. The study variables were, the gender of the accident victims, mode of accident, days of week on which the accident took place, time of day when the injury was sustained, part of the body injured, nature of injury, and self-reported reasons for the accident. Statistical Analysis: data were summarized using percentages. The Chi-square test for goodness of fit was applied, to see whether there was any association between the different weekdays or time of day and the accidents. Results: Male : female ratio was almost 5 : 1, which was statistically significant (Chi-Square for goodness of fit = 95.11, df = 1, P < 0.0001). The maximum accidents occurred on Sundays and Mondays and the least around midweek (Wednesday). This pattern was also statistically significant (Chi-square for goodness of fit = 30.09, df = 6, P < 0.001). Pedestrians were the most vulnerable group, followed by drivers and pillions of two wheelers. These categories of road users contributed to almost 80% of the cases of Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs). Accidents were more likely in the time zone of 8 pm to midnight, followed by 4 pm to 8 pm (Chi-square for goodness of fit = 89.58, df = 5, P < 0.0001). A majority of the patients sustained multiple injuries followed by injuries to the lower limbs. A majority reported impaired visibility and fatigue as the cause of accident. Almost half (46.22%) of the injured admitted to drinking alcohol on a regular basis. Conclusion: Wide pavements and safe zebra crossings should be provided for pedestrians, as the highest casualty in this study were pedestrians. More accidents occurred on Sundays and Mondays and in the late evenings. Extra supervision by traffic police may be considered on Sundays / Holidays and the day following. Background: The majority of the world's population is bilingual. Yet, therapy studies involving bilingual people with aphasia are rare and have produced conflicting results. One recent study suggested that therapy can assist word retrieval in bilingual aphasia, with effects generalising to related words in the untreated language. However, this cross-linguistic generalisation only occurred into the person's stronger language (L1). While indicative, these findings were derived from just three participants, and only one received therapy in both languages. Aims: This study addressed the following questions. Do bilingual people with aphasia respond to naming therapy techniques developed for the monolingual population? Do languages respond differently to therapy and, if so, are gains influenced by language dominance? Does cross-linguistic generalisation occur and does this depend on the therapy approach? Is cross-linguistic generalisation more likely following treatment in L2 or L1? Methods & Procedures: The study involved five aphasic participants who were bilingual in English and Bengali. Testing showed that their severity and dominance patterns varied, so the study adopted a case series rather than a group design. Each person received two phases of naming therapy, one in Bengali and one in English. Each phase treated two groups of words with semantic and phonological tasks, respectively. The effects of therapy were measured with a picture-naming task involving both treated and untreated (control) items. This was administered in both languages on four occasions: two pre-therapy, one immediately post-therapy and one 4 weeks after therapy had ceased. Testing and therapy in Bengali was administered by bilingual co-workers. Outcomes & Results: Four of the five participants made significant gains from at least one episode of therapy. Benefits arose in both languages and from both semantic and phonological tasks. There were three instances of cross-linguistic generalisation, which occurred when items had been treated in the person's dominant language using semantic tasks. Conclusions & Implications: This study suggests that 'typical' naming treatments can be effective for some bilingual people with aphasia, with both L1 and L2 benefiting. It offers evidence of cross-linguistic generalisation, and suggests that this is most likely to arise from semantic therapy approaches. In contrast to some results in the academic literature, the direction of generalisation was from LI to L2. The theoretical implications of these findings are considered. Background: Coronary artery aneurysms after drug eluting stents are rare. We present a case series of type II coronary aneurysms after implantation of Everolimus eluting stents including patients developing giant aneurysms with a toxic course., Case Presentation: Over a span of 3.5 years at our center 2572 patients were implanted Everolimus eluting stents out of which 4 patients developed coronary type II aneurysms an incidence of 0.00156 whereas 5838 patients were implanted Sirolimus eluting 2nd generation stents out of which 2 patients developed similar aneurysms with an incidence of 0.00034. The slight increase in incidence in Everolimus stents does not reach statistical significance (p = 0.054) and is limited by single centre non randomized study. We also propose a hypothesis that the slight increase in the incidence maybe due to allergy to Methacrylate present in Everolimus eluting Xience stent's primer which is absent in other Sirolimus eluting stents used at our center but that needs to be further investigated. We also found some patients who developed giant aneurysms including Left main aneurysms. In our series operative repair of these patients had better outcomes than covered stent deployment but larger trials maybe needed to confirm the same., Conclusions: Coronary artery aneurysms after stent implantation are rare but occasionally giant aneurysms are formed with a toxic course. A retrospective analysis of all paediatric patients diagnosed and treated for gastric teratomas in our hospital over the past 20 years was carried out (1997–2017). A database of the clinic-pathological characteristics of these patients was developed. In all, 7 patients were identified. All the patients underwent resection and were followed up every 6 months. The investigations performed included routine blood investigations, X-ray, alpha fetoproteins (AFP), beta HCG levels and a CT scan of the abdomen. There were seven patients with gastric teratomas and all of them were male except one female. Their ages ranged from 1 day to 4 years. Six (85.7%) patients presented during infancy. The manifestations were as follows: a palpable abdominal mass followed by anemia, respiratory distress, abdominal distension, gastric outlet obstruction with recurrent vomiting, and abdominal pain, anorexia, and melena. Histopathology was mature type in five (71.4%) cases, and immature Grades 1 and 2 in one (14.2%) each. Complications were seen in four (57.1%) cases, and there was one (14.2%) mortality in our series. Recurrence was seen in two of our cases. The preoperative diagnosis of Gastric teratoma may be challenging, but with recent advances in imaging an accurate diagnosis and staging is possible. Complete surgical excision is curative in all cases, with close observation and follow-up. • Gastric teratoma is an exceptionally rare embryonic neoplasm occurring in neonatal period and infancy. • Due to the paucity of the number of cases, the natural history of the disease is not fully understood and its preoperative diagnosis remains elusive. • Complete surgical excision is curative in all cases, with close observation and follow-up being recommended in Grade 2 and 3 immature teratomas. • The detection of immature component carries a prognostic implication and hence, extensive sampling is essential. • Postoperatively, the prognosis is excellent. • Long term follow-up with AFP and beta hCG depending on the type is the standard protocol to be adopted. New insights on Delusional Procreation Syndrome (DPS), a sequence of delusions in the cycle of human procreation are emerging in recent times. Till date, most of the data on DPS are reported from the clinical samples. Authors report case series of having delusions related to DPS from a rural community sample of schizophrenia patients. Delusion of having spouse, delusion of delivery, and delusion of being a parent are reported in this case-series. This evidence is a forward step towards the validity of DPS as a syndrome. Abrus precatorius is a rare but important cause of plant poisoning, especially in tropical countries like India. Most of the published literature on Abrus is limited a few case reports. Hence, we did a retrospective study the clinical features and outcome of Abrus poisoning. Case records of patients admitted to medicine wards during 7 years were included in the study. A total of 112 patients were studied. The majority were females (78%), and most of the patients were between 13 and 30 years (81%). Diarrhea was the most common symptom (66%), and blood in stools was present in (33%). Six patients had died with a mortality rate of (5.35%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
