The article presents a study which examines the rainfall pattern in India. It focuses on the annual, seasonal, and monthly rainfall time series of 36 meteorological subdivisions in the country from 1901-2003 using a fixed network of 1476 rain gauge stations. A linear trend analysis is used in examining the long-term trends in rainfall over different subdivisions and monthly contribution of each of the monsoon months to annual rainfall. The three subdivisions Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, and Kerala showed significant decreasing trend during the south-west monsoon season, while eight subdivisions including West UP, Konkan and Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra subdivision showed significant increasing trends.
