This article provides an overview of scientific research in Indonesia, focusing on biodiversity and climate change. It acknowledges Indonesia's unique geography and biodiversity, as well as the challenges it faces, such as deforestation and land degradation. The article emphasizes the need for increased investment in science and collaboration with international partners to overcome funding and resource limitations. It also highlights the efforts of young Indonesian scientists to improve the country's scientific future. However, the article notes that Indonesia's research and development spending is relatively low compared to other countries, and that research support is not concentrated in universities where most scientists are employed. The government's establishment of the Indonesian Science Fund in 2015 was unsuccessful due to lack of funding. The article concludes by stating that the government must prioritize science funding and support basic scientific research in order for Indonesia to become an innovation nation.
