Background: Understanding cultural context is crucial to providing respectful maternity care. This study's aim was to explore pregnancy culture, beliefs and traditions among the Madurese tribe of Indonesia. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in the Sumenep district. In-depth interviews and focus group discussions were held with 67 key informants: pregnant women, their family members, traditional birth attendants, and community, religious and traditional/indigenous leaders. Results: The practices included fourth-and seventh-month rituals, pregnancy massage and behavioural taboos and suggestions. Conclusions Most Madurese tribe practices are harmless. Healthcare providers must appreciate and integrate prevailing traditional beliefs and practices with other efforts to reduce maternal mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and objectives: Stunting is a serious public health problem in Indonesia. Madura Island, which is inhabited by the Madurese ethnicity, had a very high stunting prevalence. The cultural factors of stunting mainly focus on food, food taboos, and early complementary feeding or prelacteal feeding practices. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the eating concept and its association with child feeding practices and stunting among the Madurese ethnic group in Indonesia. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in Sampang District, Madura Island, East Java, Indonesia. A total of 61 informants participated in this study (25 informants of in-depth interviews, 26 informants of FGDs, and 10 families in observations). Data collection consists of culture, values, and beliefs in child feeding practices that influence children's nutritional status. The analysis used was content analysis by emphasizing the meanings, themes, and concepts of eating and stunting. Results and conclusions: Stunting was considered a normal condition rather than a nutritional problem. The concept of eating is "eating rice." Eating without other dishes is acceptable as long as there is rice on the plate. This concept affects inappropriate complementary food feeding practices and malnutrition among children under five. Overall, the study contributed to the improvement of the stunting reduction program by addressing how Madurese thought about eating and stunting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Adolescent Reproductive Health problems are still a priority in Indonesia. One of the causes of this problem is that access to information is still conventional. Therefore knowledge about reproductive health must be improved through applications that are following the characteristics and needs of adolescents. "Aplikasi Remaja Sehat" is a source of information and educational media in addition to information about the health information to adolescents without spending money and can be accessed by downloading applications in the Appstore about adolescent reproductive health. Methods: This study was conducted on Surabaya high school students to analyzing the variable diffusion of innovation (relative advantage, compatibility, complexity) resulting from the use of "Aplikasi Remaja Sehat". The method used in this study was pre-experimental by designing a post-only design The data collection method in this study used a pre-experimental design with a post-only design where giving intervention to the respondent was then given a posttest measurement. Samples taken by simple random sampling were as many as 302 samples. Results: The results showed that there were significant differences with the degree of conformity with the application (p-value = 0.026) while compatibility (p-value = 0.304) and complexity (p-value = 0.312) had no significant effect on the decision. Conclusion: The conclusions in this study are related to the variable diffusion of innovation that results in decisions in using healthy adolescent applications. Therefore "Aplikasi Remaja Sehat" can be used as a health promotion medium for adolescents that is suitable for teenagers' needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Stunting is a disease that is a top priority in public health in the world, especially in developing countries. Indonesia has remained a lot of stunting disease due to various factors. Indonesia is a country with multiple religions and predominantly Islam. Therefore, efforts to prevent stunting are undertaken in various ways, such as conducting capacity building in Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to make Kader Dakwah Sehat as an effort to prevent stunting through capacity building. This study employed a quasi-experimental method, where the intervention provided was in the form of capacity building of respondents and indicators of success using a pre-posttest with the aim of seeing whether there are differences and the effectiveness of these activities. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the capacity building of Kader Dakwah Sehat as an effort to prevent stunting in Islamic boarding schools. The analysis used was paired t test. Respondents in this study were 100 Kader Dakwah Sehat. The result of this research was that the capacity building activity was running well as evidenced by the results of the discussion and activity processes during each stage. Children in agricultural and coastal areas are more vulnerable to malnutrition. This study analyses children's eating habits in agricultural and coastal areas. This cross-sectional study involved 384 children under five and their parents in Sampang District, East Java, Indonesia. Milk and fruit consumption was low in both areas, especially in the agricultural area. Children's eating habits differed between coastal and agricultural areas due to disparities in food availability. Increasing consumption of milk and fruits (both areas), and vegetables (coastal area) that are preferred by children and widely available will benefit children's health in both areas. Dietary diversity and quantity are important for pregnant women, particularly anemic pregnant women. This study aimed to analyze the association between dietary quantity and diversity among anemic pregnant women. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2017 at Madura Island, Indonesia, and involved 152 anemic pregnant women. Hemoglobin concentration was analyzed by the cyanmethemoglobin method. Dietary quantity was measured by the 2 × 24 h recall. Dietary diversity was determined by Minimum Dietary Diversity for Women of Reproductive Age (MDD-W). Spearman's rank association was performed to analyze the association between dietary diversity and quantity. The median of hemoglobin concentration was 10.1 g/dL, and 57.2% pregnant women had mild anemia. Most of the pregnant women had low adequacy levels of energy and macro- and micronutrients (except for iron). More than half (57.9%) of anemic pregnant women had reached minimum dietary diversity. Family size (p=0.048) and gestational age (p=0.004) had negative associations with dietary diversity. Dietary diversity had positive associations with energy (p=0.029), protein (p=0.003), vitamin A (p=0.001), vitamin C (p=0.004), and zinc (p=0.015) adequacy levels. Dietary diversity had no significant association with calcium (p=0.078) and iron adequacy level (p=0.206). High prevalence of mild and moderate anemia was found among pregnant women in their third trimester. Anemic pregnant women already consumed food with minimum dietary diversity but did not meet dietary quantity. Increasing dietary quantity is a priority for anemic pregnant women.
