Objective Electromyography (EMG) biofeedback has been suggested as a relatively new approach to help resolve muscle disorders. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of 8 weeks of proximal pelvic muscle training and biofeedback on pain, muscle strength, and their EMG activity in individuals suffering from patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Materials & Methods This randomized clinical trial was performed on 30 young people aged 22 to 45 with PFPS. People in the intervention group (15 people) received EMG biofeedback of the abductor (gluteus medius) and external rotator (gluteus maximus) muscles along with routine physiotherapy treatments, including stretching exercises, isometric exercises of gluteal and quadriceps muscles, and conventional transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. In the control group (15 people), routine physiotherapy treatments were only performed on the patients. The participants of two groups were treated for 8 weeks, 3 sessions every week. Pain by a visual analog scale (VAS), maximal voluntary isometric strength (MVIC) of the abductor and external rotator muscles of the thigh with a dynamometer, and activity of these muscles, including maximum contraction, integrated EMG and onset EMG using EMG, were measured before and after the interventions. Results MVIC and EMG of the gluteus medius muscle demonstrated that the intervention group had more maximum EMG activity (P=0.043) and MVIC (P=0.003) than the control group. MVIC and the maximum EMG activity of the gluteus maximus muscle showed no significant difference between the two groups. Still, the increase in the integrated EMG of this muscle in the intervention group indicated a greater increase than in the control group (P=0.0001). Moreover, people in the intervention group had significantly less pain than the group of routine exercises alone after 8 weeks of treatment (P=0.016). Conclusion Adding 8 week biofeedback training of abductor and external rotator muscles to the routine therapeutic exercise in PFPS can lead to pain reduction, improvement of muscle strength and better performance of these muscles. Background and Aim: The Acceptable Noise Level (ANL), which is an effective clinical tool for quantitative assessment of noise tolerance, is affected by some known variables related to both subject and testing materials. The present study examined how the characteristics of different babble noises may affect the ANL results in normal adult listeners. Methods: Forty Persian listeners with normal hearing participated. In addition to typical ANL testing with 12-talker noise, the ANL was obtained in 8 different conditions varying in number of talkers from 2 to 10 in the babble noises presenting forward and backward. Results: There was a significantly lower ANL for 2-talker babble compared to 4, 8, 10, and 12-talker babble in both forward and backward noise conditions. With the increase in talkers in noise, the ANL becomes worse but reaches almost a plateau with more than 4 talkers in babble noise. There was a statistically significant difference between 2-talker forward and 2-talker backward noises, with no difference for the other conditions. Conclusion: This finding that the ANL is affected by the number of talkers in babble noise and by the forward and backward background noise suggests that informational masking and listening in dip mechanisms are involved in ANL for normal hearing people at least. Background: Pregnant women have poor knowledge of oral hygiene during pregnancy. One problem with the follow-up of dental caries in this group is zero accumulation in the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index, for which some models must be used to achieve valid results. The studied population may be heterogeneous in longitudinal studies, leading to biased estimates. We aimed to assess the impact of oral health education on dental caries in pregnant women using a suitable model in a longitudinal experimental study with heterogeneous random effects. Materials and Methods: This longitudinal, experimental research was carried out on pregnant women who visited medical centers in Tehran. The educational group (236 cases) received education for three sessions. The control group (200 cases) received only standard training. The DMFT index assessed oral and dental health at baseline, 6 months, and 24 months after delivery. The Chi-square test was used for comparing nominal variables and the Mann–Whitney U test for ordinal variables. The zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) model was applied under heterogeneous and homogeneous random effects using R 4.2.1, SPSS 26, and SAS 9.4. The level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: Data from 436 women aged 15 years and older were analyzed. Zero accumulation in the DMFT was mainly related to the filled teeth (51%). The heterogeneous ZIP model fitted better to the data. On average, the intervention group exhibited a higher rate of change in filled teeth over time than the control group (P = 0.021). Conclusion: The proposed ZIP model is a suitable model for predicting filled teeth in pregnant women. An educational intervention during pregnancy can improve oral health in the long-term follow-up. Background and Aim: Experiencing dizziness/vertigo is often an indication of dysfunction in the vestibular system. Recent findings show a connection between peripheral vestibular dysfunction and cognitive impairments. The Neuropsychological Vertigo Inventory (NVI) can assess physical, emotional, and cognitive issues in individuals with dizziness/vertigo. The aim of this research was to translate, cultural adaptation and evaluation of the reliability and validity of NVI to Persian. Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, the NVI scale was translated and adapted to the Iranian cultural context following the international quality of life assessment protocol for translation and equivalence. After obtaining face validity, the scale was administered to 140 patients with peripheral vestibular system dysfunction and 70 control group (age between 25 and 80 years). After one week, 50 participants were asked to complete the questionnaire again. Eventually, reliability was evaluated with both methods of internal consistency and test-retest reproducibility. Results: Out of the 28 items in the NVI scale, 3 items were modified to better align with the cultural conditions of Iranians. The impact scores for most items in this scale were found to be higher than 1.5. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient values for the overall scale (0.90) and test-retest reliability with intra-class correlation coefficient for the overall scale (0.91) were confirmed. Conclusion: The Persian version of NVI scale demonstrates excellent validity and reliability, and it exhibits a high level of content alignment with the original version. Background/Aims: Muscle imbalance in patella stabilisers leads to patellar lateral glide and can cause patellofemoral pain syndrome. This study investigated the effect of progressive strengthening exercises of the vastus medialis oblique on pain and patellar alignment in patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome and patellar lateral glide. Methods: A double-blind, randomised controlled trial was conducted with 40 individuals with patellofemoral pain syndrome with patellar lateral glide aged 20–40 years. The study group received vastus medialis oblique-specific strengthening exercises and routine physiotherapy treatment, and the control group received routine physiotherapy treatment only (stretching exercises, gluteal and quadriceps isometric exercises and conventional transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation). Participants performed these exercises three times a week for 8 weeks. Pain intensity was measured before and after the intervention using a visual analogue scale and patellar alignment was measured using ultrasonographic parameters, including the trochlear angle, patella offset angle and distance between patellar tip and trochlear groove. Results: In the between-groups comparison, there was a significant decrease in pain intensity in both the study and control groups, although the study group had a greater decrease (study group before intervention: 71.15 ± 1.54, study group after intervention: 22.21 ± 0.35, P=0.001); control group before intervention: 70.09 ± 1.22, control group after intervention: 31.82 ± 0.36 (P=0.001)) and patella offset angle (in the study group compared to the control group after 8 weeks of intervention. In within-groups comparison, a significant decrease of the patella offset angle in the study group was observed (before intervention: 16.2 ± 1.53; after intervention: 13.2 ± 1.87, P=0.001). No significant differences were found for the other parameters. Conclusions: Specific strengthening of the vastus medialis oblique muscle in patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome and patellar lateral glide can lead to pain reduction and improvement of patellar alignment to correct lateralisation. This change may delay the process of patellofemoral joint degeneration. Including vastus medialis oblique-specific strengthening exercises in standard physiotherapy treatments may help to reduce pain levels in people with patellofemoral pain syndrome. Background and Aim: Noise tolerance and performance in noisy environments are influential factors of hearing aid use in people with hearing loss. One of the causes of hearing loss is Meniere's disease (MD), which affects speech perception in noise. Acceptable noise level (ANL) is a test that measures the maximum tolerated background noise level (BNL) while listening to the running speech. Since the effect of MD on ANL needs further study, the present study aims to examine the ANL test results in people with unilateral MD, and compare the results between the two ears. Methods: This cross sectional study conducted on 33 individuals with unilateral MD (21 females and 12 males) aged 32-60 years who had the disease for at least one year, who participated in this study. Their most comfortable level (MCL), BNL, and ANL in both ears were then evaluated. Results: The mean MCL and BNL were significantly different between the two ears, where they were higher in the affected ear than in the contralateral ear. There was also a significant difference in the ANL results between the two ears. In the affected ear, a statistically significant relationship was reported between the ANL and the average hearing thresholds at frequencies of250, 500, and 1000 Hz. Background: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the most prevalent preventable causes of mental retardation. Studies show that the incidence rate of CH is very high in Iran. Disease mapping is a tool for visually expressing the frequency, incidence, or relative risk of illness. The present study aimed to model CH counts considering the effects of the neighborhood in towns and perform mapping based on the relative risk. Methods: In this historical cohort study, data of all neonates diagnosed with CH with TSH level =5 mIU/L between March 21, 2017, and March 20, 2018, in health centers in Guilan, Iran were used. The number of neonates with CH was zero in most towns of Guilan Province. The Bayesian spatial zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) regression model was employed to investigate the effect of the town's neighborhood on the relative risk of CH incidence. Then, the map of the posterior mean of the relative risk for CH incidence was provided. The analysis was performed using OpenBUGS and Arc GIS software programs. Results: The relative risk of CH incidence was high in the West of Guilan. Moreover, the goodness-of-fit criterion indicated that it is more appropriate to fit the Bayesian spatial ZIP model to these data than the common model. Background/Aims: The participation of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy in leisure activities is associated with their preferences. A better understanding of their leisure preferences and the factors that influence them can help therapists to promote young patients' participation in leisure activities. The aim of this study was to describe the role of individual factors in the prediction of leisure preferences of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy in Iran. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used. A total of 152 children and adolescents with cerebral palsy were selected to complete the Preferences for Activities of Children questionnaire. Simple and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to assess the role of individual factors in the prediction of preferences for leisure activities. Results: Individual factors played a significant role in the prediction of leisure preferences. Their influence on the preferences for recreational, physical and self-improvement domains (r2=0.215; 0.154; 0.127, respectively) were greater than for social and skill-based domains (r2=0.045; 0.052, respectively). Conclusions: Preferences for physical activities need to be augmented while a high preference for social and recreational activities could be used to promote participation in leisure activities. Therapists and other healthcare professionals should consider individual factors relating to leisure preferences when devising therapeutic plans that aim to promote participation in leisure activities. Background and Aim: Amblyaudia is a diagnostic issue in central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), which is characterized by asymmetry in dichotic listening performance. This disorder negatively affects the academic performance of children by influencing their information processing, reading, attention, etc. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of the dichotic interaural intensity difference (DIID) training on all auditory processing categories of the Buffalo Model using the Persian staggered spondaic word (P-SSW) test. Methods: The study was conducted on 17 children (11 girls and 6 boys) aged 8-12 years old diagnosed with amblyaudia. All children were first evaluated by the P-SSW test, and then participated in 10-12 sessions of the DIID training. The P-SSW test was taken again after completing the training program in order to evaluate the training effect. Results: The paired t-test results showed a significant reduction in the mean scores of decoding (p < 0.001) and tolerance fading memory (p < 0.004) categories as well as the total mean score of P-SSW test after training. The Wilcoxon test also showed the effect of this training on the integration category (p < 0.025). The McNemar test, however, showed no statistically significant effect of the DIID training on the organization category. Conclusion: The DIID training causes significant improvement in some central auditory processing categories of the Buffalo Model, including decoding, tolerance fading memory and integration. Objective The aim of this study was to test a model of child, family and environment and identify factors affecting the intensity of leisure participation by children with cerebral palsy (CP). Materials & Methods In this cross-sectional study, 232 children with cerebral palsy (141 boys and 91 girls), aged 6 to 14 years old and their parents were selected from four schools of children with special needs and five rehabilitation centers through the convenience sampling method in Shiraz, Iran. To evaluate the intensity of leisure participation, we used the Persian version of Children's Assessment of Participation and Enjoyment (CAPE) completed by the participants. Demographic form, Craig Hospital Inventory of Environmental Factors (CHIEF), Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Family Environmental Scale (FES), SPARCLE cognitive level and parents' version of Gross Motor Function Classification System, Manual Ability Classification System and Communication Function Classification System were sent to the parents with some necessary explanations. Structural equation modeling was used to test the model hypothesis. SPSS version 18 and AMOS version 16 were used for data analysis. Results Comparative fit indexes indicated a moderate to good model fit. The presented model explained 44% of the variance in the intensity of participation. Constructs such as Family Activity Orientation with standardized total effect of 0.31 and path coefficients of P< .05 showed the most significant direct effect on participation, followed by higher gross motor function (-.26), higher manual ability (-.19), communication function (-.17), higher cognitive level (-.16), more siblings in the family (.15) and less emotional-behavioral problems (-.15). Family structures and relationships (.17) and unsupportive environment constructs (-.14) demonstrated an indirect but significant effect (P< .05). The relationship of family education level and income with participation was not significant (P>.05). Conclusion The intensity of CP children's participation is influenced by child, family and environmental factors. Parents' knowledge of recreational activities and their preference to participate in leisure and recreational activities provide children more opportunities to participate. Higher gross motor function, manual ability, and communication function also play an important role in their participation. Family structure means family cohesion, roles organization, and conflicts between family members and encountering physical, attitudinal and structural barriers at home and community indirectly impact children's participation pattern. To enhance children's participation, we suggest therapists to support children's behaviors, family relationships and involvement in community activities and optimize physical function of children with limitations in self-mobility. Background/Aims: This study evaluated the role of individual factors of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy in the prediction of leisure participation. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used. A group of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy were selected to complete the Children's Assessment of Participation and Enjoyment. Participants' cognitive levels were assessed based on the Study of Participation of Children with Cerebral Palsy Living in Europe estimated cognitive levels. Findings: The models could best predict up to 31.8% of the variance in the participation rates, 28.4% of the variance in the frequency scores and 33.5% of the variance in the enjoyment scores of leisure domains. The type of cerebral palsy was one of the most significant predictive factors of leisure participation (β ranged from −0.177 to −0.525 for quadriplegia). Conclusions: Therapists and rehabilitation specialists may consider individual factors to predict a proportion of leisure participation subscales before planning for interventions aimed at promoting the leisure participation of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. Background and Objective: The most common index in dental studies is the decayed, missing or filled teeth (dmft)/DMFT. Risk factor evaluation in order to investigate the significant factors that affected this dmft in children has an important role in dental epidemiological studies. This study aims to use a zero inflated binomial model for investigating the risk factors that affected the dmft in children aged 5 - 6 years in Tehran, Iran. Methods: This cross - sectional study was a part of a national survey for assessing the oral health status of Iranian citizens in 2012. The target population was children aged 5 - 6 years. The information and oral examination were collected by the WHO recommended clinical examination form and a trained calibrated dental team (dentists and hygienists). A binomial zero inflated model (ZIB) with random effect was used for evaluating the effect of all variables on dmft. Results: In general, 593 subjects were studied. From the entire subject in this study the frequency of zero was 1071 (45%). The result of ZIB model with random effect in zero part showed that brushing the teeth (OR = 3.5; P value = 0.012) and mothers with university education (OR = 11.24; P value = 0.016) had significant relation with zero dmft. The variance component of random intercept in zero part was significant too (σ²=4.68, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Zero inflated binomial model with random effect in zero part fitted better to this data. Introduction: This study sought to assess root canal morphology of maxillary second molars regarding age and gender in an Iranian population using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods and Materials: Totally, 157 maxillary second molars of patients presenting to a radiology clinic were evaluated on CBCT scans. Tooth length, number of roots, root fusion, coronal and sagittal root deviation, number of canals per root, prevalence of second mesiobuccal canal, root canal morphology according to the Vertucci's classification and the correlation of these variables with age and gender were evaluated. Data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Fisher's exact tests. Results: Of 157 teeth, 98 belonged to females and 59 to males. The mean tooth length was significantly greater in males than in females (P=0.002) and it was shorter in 50-60 years old group. The rate of root fusion was 18.6%. Distobuccal and palatal roots were mainly straight in both sagittal and coronal planes while mesiobuccal roots mostly had a distal-buccal deviation; 67.5% of the teeth had four canals. Number of canals was significantly correlated with gender and was higher in males (P<0.05). The most prevalent canal type was type VI in second mesiobuccal, and type V in palatal and distobuccal canals. The most common types in mesiobuccal canal were types I, VI and II, respectively. In the remaining two roots, type I was the most common. Background: Colorectal cancer is a highly prevalent cancer across the world, which is associated with significant mortality. Therefore, special attention must be paid to the prevention and care of this fatal disease. The present study aimed to evaluate the effective methods to prolong the survival of colorectal cancer patients and determine the influential factors in their longevity using the exponentiated Weibull statistical model. Methods: Medical records of 446 colorectal cancer patients referring to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran, Iran during 1985 - 2013 were reviewed. The exponentiated Weibull model is an extended version of the Weibull model, which is used to investigate the survival of colorectal cancer patients and assess the influential factors in their survival and longevity. We also compared the model with the Weibull-exponential model for better practice. Results: Mean survival rate of the patients was 4.52+0.182 years. According to the exponentiated Weibull model, age at diagnosis was the only significant influential factor in the survival of colorectal cancer patients (P= 0.002). Other factors such as gender, tumor size, family history of colorectal cancer, tumor site, and body mass index had no significant effects on the survival of these patients. The proposed model was considered superior to theWeibull-exponential model due to the lower Akaike's information criterion. Conclusions: According to the results, age of colorectal cancer patients at the time of diagnosis is the most important influential factor in increasing their survival and reducing the mortality rate. OBJECTIVE: There have been contradictory findings on the relationship between Socioeconomic Status (SES) and child development although SES is associated with child development outcomes. The present study intended to define the relationship between SES and child development in Tehran kindergartens, Iran. MATERIALS & METHODS: This cross-sectional survey studied 1036 children aged 36-60 month, in different kindergartens in Tehran City, Iran, in 2014-2015. The principal factor analysis (PFA) model was employed to construct SES indices. The constructed SES variable was employed as an independent variable in logistic regression model to evaluate its role in developmental delay as a dependent variable. Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the root and canal morphology of maxillary first molars with regards to patients’ age and gender with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods and Materials: A total of 149 CBCT scans from 92 (67.1%) female and 57 (31.3%) male patients with mean age of 40.5 years were evaluated. Tooth length, presence of root fusion, number of the roots and canals, canal types based on Vertucci’s classification, deviation of root and apical foramen in coronal and sagittal planes and the correlation of all items with gender and age were recorded. The Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Fisher’s exact tests were used to analyze these items. Results: The rate of root fusion was 1.3%. Multiple canals were present in the following frequencies: four canals 78.5%, five canals 11.4% and three canals 10.1%. Additional canal was detected in 86.6% of mesiobuccal roots in which Vertucci’s type VI configuration was the most prevalent followed by type II and I. Type I was the most common one in distobuccal and palatal roots. There was no statistically significant difference in the canal configurations in relation to gender and age as well as the incidence root or canal numbers (P>0.05). The mean tooth length was 19.3 and 20.3 mm in female and male patients, respectively which was statistically significant (P<0.05). Evaluation of root deviation showed that most commonly, a general pattern of straight-distal in the mesiobuccal and straight-straight for distobuccal and palatal roots occurred. In mesiobuccal roots, straight and distal deviations were more dominant in male and female, respectively (P<0.05). The prevalence of apical foramen deviation in mesiobuccal and palatal roots statistically differed with gender. Background: Correlation between chronological age at different stages of cervical vertebral maturation (CVM) is important in clinical orthodontic practice. The objective of this study was to evaluate the correlation between CVM stage and chronological age in a group of Iranian female patients. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 196 digital lateral cephalometry of female patients with the age ranged 9-14 years. The CVM stage was determined with two calibrated examiners, using the method developed by Baccetti and its correlation with mean chronological age was assessed by the Spearman rank-order. The intra and inter-agreements were evaluated by weighted Kappa statistics in overall diagnosis of stages, in addition to determination of presence or absent of concavities at the lower border of second, third and fourth cervical vertebrae and the shapes of the third and fourth vertebrae. P < 0.05 was considered as significant. Results: The correlation coeffi cient between CVM stages and chronological age was relatively low (r = 0.62). The least amount of inter-observer agreement was determined to be at the clinical decision of the shape of the fourth vertebra. Conclusion: Regarding the low reported correlation, the concomitant usage of other skeletal indicators seems necessary for precise determination of physiological age of the patients. Background and Aims: The dichotic listening subtest is considered as an important component of the test battery for auditory processing assessment in both children and adults. A randomized dichotic digits test (RDDT) was created to compensate for sensitivity weakness of double digits when detecting abnormal ear asymmetry during dichotic listening. The aim of this study was the development and initial evaluation of the Persian randomized dichotic digits test. Method: Persian digits 1-10 (except for the bisyllabic digit, 4) uttered by a native Persian language speaker were recorded in a studio. After alignment of intensity and temporal characteristics of digit waveforms, lists 1 and 2 of the RDDT were reproduced. List 1 of the test was administered at 55 dBHL on 50 right-handed normal hearing individuals (with an equal sex ratio) in the age group of 18-25 years and hearing thresholds of 15 dBHL or better in audiometric frequencies. Results: Mean (standard deviation) percent-correct score for right and left ears and right ear advantage of the subjects was 94.3 (5.3), 84.8 (7.7), and 9.5 (7.0) percent, respectively. Sixty percent of the subjects showed normal results and unilateral and bilateral deficits were seen in 24 percent and 16 percent, respectively. Conclusion: It seems the Persian version of RDDT is the same as the original test as it is able to test ear asymmetry, unilateral and bilateral deficits in dichotic listening. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to explore the effectiveness of group poetry intervention on signs of depression, anxiety and stress in female undergraduate students in Iran. A sample of 29 participants were randomly assigned to either an intervention (n =14) or a no intervention group (n =15). The intervention group took part in seven sessions of group poetry therapy of 90–120min duration each while the no intervention group was put on a waiting list. All participants completed the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) before the intervention and after second, fifth and the last session. Results showed that the use of poetry as an intervention technique plays a significant role in reducing signs of depression, anxiety and reported stress. This confirms previous research. Results are discussed in terms of the viability of poetry as a possible therapeutic method in alleviating depressive and anxiety related disorders considering some important characteristics of the Iranian culture. Objectives: The aim of this ecological study was to assess the association between behavioral, social position, circumstance factors, and caries experience in 35- to 44-year-old adults in Iran at a provincial level., Materials and Methods: The data from the 2011 Iranian Oral Health Survey were obtained from all 31 provinces across Iran on the population level. Oral health status was measured as the number of decayed, missing (MT), and filled (FT) teeth and the percentage of the population who were edentulous. Data were also gathered from each province on the percentage of smokers (Non-Communicable Diseases Risk Factors Surveillance Provincial Report 2009), per capita consumption of free sugars, concentration of fluoride in the drinking water (National and Sub-national Burden of Disease (NASBOD) Survey), number of dentists per 10,000 people, mean years of schooling of adults, expected years of schooling of children, life expectancy at birth and Gross National Income (Integrated Public Use Microdata Series, Global Data Lab). The data were analyzed using simple and multiple linear regression (α = 0.05)., Results: Mean DMFT was positively associated with the percentage of smokers (B = 0.01 95%CI 0.01-0.14), and negatively with fluoride concentration (B =-2.6 95%CI -4.3- -0.96). The edentulousness percentage was positively associated with smoking (B = 0.2 (with 95%CI: 0.07-0.37) and negatively with mean years of education (B =-1.08 (with 95%CI: -2.04- -0.12). DT was associated with expected years of schooling (B =-0.6 (with 95%CI: -1.07- -0.17), negatively. Mt was negatively associated with life expectancy (B =-0.5 (with 95%CI: -1.1- -0.007), fluoride concentration (B =-3.4 (with 95%CI: -4.5- -1.5) and number of dentists per 10,000 people (B =-0.4 (with 95%CI: -0.8- -0.01). Mean Years of Schooling (B = 0.5 (with 95%CI: 0.2-0.8) and number of dentists per 10,000 people (B =-0.62 (with 95%CI: 0.51 - 0.48) were positively in associated with FT., Conclusions: The present findings indicate that there were differences in the oral health measures and their social determinants among the provinces of Iran. Regarding the limitations of the study especially the limitation of the number of independent variables, it seems, this discrepancy could be better explained by social variables of the provinces such as income than by environmental factors., (© 2023. Abstract: Visual impairment due to refractive errors and color vision deficiency (CVD) can affect the visual abilities of workers in workplace. Identifying the prevalence of common visual problems helps us to prevent and treat occupational ocular problems.This study was conducted on 2600 males referring from companies for a routine medical exam to Occupational Medicine Center. In all subjects, visual acuity and refraction were measured. Assessment of color vision was performed by Ishihara color test. In present study, right eyes of subjects were selected to statistical analysis.The mean spherical equivalent was -0.19 ± 1.39 diopter with a range of -11.00 to +10.00 diopter. Whereas 71% of persons were emmetropic, 20% and 9% of them were myopic and hypermetropic, respectively. From a total subjects, 164 of them had CVD with prevalence of color blindness of 6.3%. In comparison with normal subjects, CVD had no significant effect on refractive findings of our subjects (P > .05).Our data present the prevalence of refractive errors and color blindness among Iranian industry-workers. Objective: To translate the STarT Back Screening Tool (SBT) into Persian and to investigate the psychometric properties of the new version in a group of patients with Non-Specific Low Back Pain (NSLBP)., Background: The STarT is a validated questionnaire used for subgrouping LBP patients at three levels of low-, medium-, and high-risk, based on the risk of chronicity. It has previously been translated and validated in different languages., Methods: The translation and validation of the original questionnaire were carried out in accordance with the standard guidelines. To approve the construct validity, 295 patients with NSLBP completed a questionnaire package. The package comprised of the STarT, Roland-Morris Disability questionnaire (RMDQ), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK), Coping Strategies Questionnaire (CSQ), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). To evaluate test-retest reliability, 35 randomly selected NSLBP patients completed the STarT questionnaire within min. 24-hour interval., Results: Factor analysis confirmed two subscales of the STarT. The Cronbach α was .83 and .81 for the STarT and the subscale, respectively. This questionnaire showed excellent test-retest reliability (ICC = .85) (p < 0.01). The correlations between the STarT and RMDQ, CSQ, TSK, and the two subscales of HADS were estimated to be .81, .70, .71, .74, and .71, respectively. The Area under the Curve was also calculated for 6 items and the range was between .734 and .860., Conclusions: The Persian version of the STarT is reliable and valid, and consistent with the original questionnaire. Objective: there is a consensus that the adoption of evidence-based practice contributes to the improvement of maternity care. Iranian National Guidelines for Normal Childbirth included evidence-based practice and were disseminated to hospitals in 2006 but little is known about the success of implementation. This study investigates the provision of care during labour and childbirth in comparison with national guidelines in four public hospitals in Tehran., Design: this was a descriptive evaluation study and investigated the provision of care during labour and childbirth using current evidence-based practice as the indicator of quality., Participants and Setting: the observational and interview data were collected using checklist and interview guide based upon standards for evidence-based care in four public hospitals in Tehran. In 24 women who were admitted in normal labour, practices were observed until the end of the third stage of labour, to determine concordance with Iranian National Guidelines for Normal Childbirth. A further 100 postpartum woman were interviewed about their care during labour and childbirth in the early postpartum period before discharge from the postnatal ward., Findings: beneficial and lifesaving practices such as assessing mothers' well-being; removal of the placenta in the third stage of labour, as well as skin-to-skin contact and early initiating of breast feeding were recorded in most cases. However, the use of practices such as routine augmentation and induction of labour, fundal pressure, conducting routine episiotomy were noted., Key Conclusions: this evaluation study shows good practice and areas for improvement as practices fail to meet evidence based standards. Thus, there is potential for quality improvement and economic savings in Tehran maternity hospitals. However closing the gap between guidelines based on best evidence and actual clinical practice in childbirth is a challenge. Practical solutions to enable implementation of evidence-based guidelines for normal childbirth in low risk women require further studies, especially from the providers' perspective., Implications for Practice: national programs which focus on organisational framework, interventions to change providers' attitudes towards the development of a culture of birth as a normal and physiological process are more likely to be important in the Iranian context.
