Students who are abused in various ways are at a higher risk for psychological problems such as depression and suicidal ideation. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the mediating role of psychological problems and perceived social support in the relationship between cyber victimization and suicidal behavior. The participants in this cross-sectional study were 250 adolescents, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth-grade students (aged 13--18 years) in Bushehr, Iran. The instruments used to collect the data were the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R), and Cyberbullying/Victimization Experiences Questionnaire. SPSS-25 and AMOS-24 software were used for data analysis. The indirect and negative effects of perceived social support showed that support (from family members and significant others) is associated with reduced suicidal behavior in students experiencing cyber victimization. Moreover, the indirect and positive effects of psychological problems showed that cyber victimization increases the risk of students experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, and may lead to increased suicidal behavior in them. The experience of cyberbullying victimization in students is associated with their suicidal behavior. These students need treatment through psycho-educational interventions or even psychotherapy in some cases.

The present study was carried out to describe Egyptian H5N8 viruses isolated from vaccinated duck and chicken flocks in 2018-2021 from different provinces, Egypt. This study screened 10 vaccinated farms (five duck and five chicken) suffering from respiratory & nervous signs with high mortality rate (90%). Out of ten examined flocks, six flocks were positive for avian influenza virus (AIV) by virus isolation into embryonated chicken eggs (ECEs) for third blind passages. The initially positive samples were confirmed, identified molecularly using quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) using primers targeting M gene of influenza A. RT-qPCR positive isolates were subjected to partial amplification of hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) genes using RT-PCR followed by sequencing and phylogenetic analysis for six isolates representative for one duck flock and five chicken flocks. Our findings proven that four flocks only were found positive for AIV/HPAI H5N8 virus by sequencing and phylogenetic analysis for HA and NA genes. The similarity between nucleotide sequencing for the four HA and NA was 99.8% and 98.1%, respectively, with H5N8 viruses previously detected in Russia, Iran, Israel and Iraq. As well as, the phylogenic analyses, focusing on HA and NA genes indicated that Egyptian H5N8 viruses clustered in group B Russian like reassortant H5N8 viruses of clade 2.3.4.4. In conclusion, the detection of the HPAI H5N8 virus in domestic birds even in vaccinated birds is a serious threat; therefore, this is needed for periodic molecular monitoring with vaccine efficacy evaluation and annual surveillance. Objectives: This study aims to determine whether health literacy, perceived stress, and anxiety sensitivity are correlated with self-care for COVID-19, focusing on the mediating role of health locus of control (HLOC) in Ardabil City, in northwestern Iran, in 2020. Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted using path analysis. The research population included households living in Ardabil city. The participants included 300 persons who were selected using the convenience sampling method. The data were collected via the health literacy instrument for Iranian adults (HELIA), perceived stress scale (PSS), anxiety sensitivity scale (ASS), self-care questionnaire, and locus of control scale (LCS). The statistical analysis of the collected data was performed with SPSS software, version 25 and AMOS software, version 24. Results: Data analysis showed that anxiety sensitivity had a negative relationship with the internal locus of control (ILOC) and a positive and significant relationship with the external locus of control (ELOC). Furthermore, health literacy has a positive correlation with ILOC and a negative and significant correlation with ELOC. The results also demonstrated that perceived stress had a direct and negative impact on ELOC and a direct and positive impact on the chance locus of control. Moreover, ILOC had a positive and direct relationship with self-care for COVID-19, and ELOC and chance locus of control had a negative and direct relationship. The data also indicated that HLOC played a fully mediating role in the relationships between the research variables, and health literacy and anxiety sensitivity were associated with self-care for COVID-19 mediated by the ILOC and the individual HLOC. However, the relationship between perceived stress and self-care was not confirmed mediated by HLOC. Discussion: The results revealed that health literacy and anxiety sensitivity are associated with self-care for COVID-19 and this relationship is mediated by HLOC. Accordingly, some interventions should be planned and implemented to strengthen and direct HLOC and enhance self-care behaviors in people during the COVID-19 outbreak. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: In old age, people suffer from many mental and physical illnesses, which make it important for the elderly to pay attention to adapting to these diseases. So, the aim of this research was to study the role of perceived burdensomeness, thwarted belongingness, and giving meaning to life in psychosocial adjustment, as well as the mediating role of self-care in the elderly. Method: This research was descriptive and correlational, conducted through available sampling of 200 elderly people who lived in the city of Ardabil. After the necessary assessments in terms of mental disorders and inclusion criteria, they were chosen to conduct this investigation in 2020. The Meaning in Life Questionnaire, Psychosocial Adjustment Scale, Self-Care Questionnaire for the Elderly, and Interpersonal Needs scale were used to gather the data. The data were analyzed using SPSS25 and Amos24 software. Results: The findings showed that perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness have a negative and direct effect on elderly self-care [β = -0.25, P < 0.01] [β = -0.20, P < 0.05] and psychosocial adjustment [β = -0.0, P < 0.05] [β = -0.12, P < 0.05]. Also, giving meaning to life has a positive and direct effect on elderly self-care [β = 0.32, P = 0.01] and psychosocial adjustment [β = 0.033, P < 0.01]. The variable of self-care can play a mediating role in the relationship between thwarted belongingness [β = -0.174, P < 0.05], perceived burdensomeness [β = -0.140, P < 0.05], and giving meaning to life [β = 0.223, P < 0.05] with psychosocial adjustment. Moreover, among the exogenous variables, thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness by change in self-care have been able to reduce psychosocial adjustment. Giving meaning through self-care, however, has increased psychosocial adjustment. Conclusion: The findings revealed that thwarted belongingness, perceived burdensomeness, and giving meaning to life are important variables in health and adaptability of the elderly, which draws attention to family-centered interventions and individual therapies. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of the HIV-PMTCT program in Kermanshah, west of Iran, from 2014 to 2021. Methods: The data of all HIV-infected mothers and their infants who were monitored by the Kermanshah behavioral diseases counseling center was extracted and recorded in a checklist. Results: Out of 95 included infant, 45 (47.4%) were girls and 50 (52.6%) were boys. The mothers were mostly infected with HIV via their infected spouse. The pregnancies of 77 cases (82.1%) were in accordance with the national guideline. The average length of treatment for this group was 185 days. Of the 18 mothers who did not receive treatment, nine were diagnosed during childbirth and nine had no available information. All infants born from infected mothers underwent after-birth-antiretroviral prophylaxis, and all remained healthy. There was no statistically significant relationship between the birth weight and height of neonates with maternal age, maternal last viral load, disease stage, education, and maternal CD4 levels. Only a statistically significant relationship was observed between the duration of treatment and the infants' weight. Conclusion: The results suggest the feasibility and effectiveness of the PMTCT program for HIV-positive mothers in Kermanshah. It seems that if pregnant HIV-positive women are diagnosed early and covered by a good prevention program on time, the risk of HIV to their babies will be reduced, significantly. Objective: Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the world. The present research aimed to investigate the moderating role of thwarted belongingness, perceived burdensomeness, and suicidal capability in suicidal ideation, behavior, and attempts among the Iranian population. Method: The data were analyzed using cross-sectional regression models. The population of this study included 600 students of the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili. The tools used to collect the data in this study were the Patient Health Questionnaire-2, the Depressive Symptom Index-Suicidality Subscale (DSI-SS), the Suicide Attempt Questionnaire, the Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (IPTS), the Suicide Capacity Scale-3, the Adverse Childhood Experiences, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire, and the Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised. Results: The results of this study showed that there was an interaction between thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness in suicidal behavior and DSI-SS. The results also showed that the acquired and practical capability subscales (suicidal capability) strengthen the relationship between suicidal behavior and the DSI-SS, on the one hand, and suicide attempt, on the other hand. Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that the interpersonal theory of suicide can pave the way to prevent suicidal ideation and behavior in Iranian society, and it is recommended that Iranian practitioners apply the theory in practice. Objectives: This study was the first step in translating the Suicide Capacity scale (SCS‐3) from English to Persian and then determining its structural validity in a sample of Iranian students. Methods: The sample consisted of 600 participants selected by the convenience sampling method and answered the questionnaires of the Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire‐Revised (SBQ‐R) Depressive Symptom Index‐Suicidality Subscale (DSI‐SS), suicide attempt, and suicidal capacity(SCS‐3). Results: The single‐group factor analysis suggested that the three‐factor model shows the goodness of fit with the data. Practical Implications: Suicide capacity is a psychometric tool that can be included in public health studies, health psychology, and empirical research to identify suicide‐related behaviors in different populations. This study examined the mediation role of perceived social support in the association between hope and health-related quality of life with coronavirus anxiety in the elderly. The research was conducted by descriptive method with a structural equations design. The population included all the over-60 elderly individuals residing in Sanandaj city, Iran, in 2021. Among them, 220 individuals were selected through available sampling method. To gather the data, the questionnaires of coronavirus anxiety, perceived social support, hope and health-related quality of life were used. Data analysis was conducted by using structural equations modeling and via SPSSv23 and AMOSv26 software. Data analysis indicated that there is a significant and negative relationship between hope, health-related quality of life, and perceived coronavirus anxiety among the elderly. Moreover, perceived social support plays a mediating role in the relationship of both hope and health-related quality of life with coronavirus anxiety. The present study provided an important insight regarding the mediating role of perceived social support in the relationship of hope and health-related quality of life with coronavirus anxiety the elderly. Through creating programs to hold suitable interventions for improving perceived social support, the COVID-19–related anxiety can be reduced during its prevalence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Students are considered part of the capital of each country. Several factors can affect their educational status and, as a result, contribute to their academic failure. The current study seeks to investigate the relationship between students' academic failure and the affecting factors with the Iranian Educational Ranking of Universities. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The required sample size was calculated using Cochran's formula. A researcher-made questionnaire with 5 parts was used to collect data. Kruskal Wallis and Spearman's analysis of variance was used for analysis. The significance level was considered as 0.05. Results: A total of 1215 people participated; 13.7% of students had had an academic failure and 2.0% of them were on academic probation. There was a correlation between university RAD rank and academic failure (r = -0.098 and P = 0.0001) as well as student satisfaction (r = 0.264 - P = 0.0001). There was a significant difference between an academic drop and academic grade in three ranks of university (Pv= 0.0001), and, interestingly, having moved from Rank 1 to 3, having academic grade increases, and having academic failure decreases. Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, the higher ranked the college campus is on the RAD scale, the higher the academic failure rate. For annual assessment of universities, it is proposed that assessment of academic failure and grades be used as a benchmark. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and purpose: Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic which is the drug of choice against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It has a narrow therapeutic index, and thus therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), and clinical pharmacokinetic assessment are necessary in order to prevent adverse drug reactions such as nephrotoxicity. In this study, we aimed to develop a simple and validated HPLC method for vancomycin assay in order to establish a TDM center for patients admitted to the ICU of Nemazee Hospital in southern Iran. Experimental approach: In this study, a brief review of different parameters and variables which could affect the sensitivity, selectivity of the validated HPLC method for vancomycin determination were considered. According to the previous studies a simple, fast, and the relatively low-cost method was established for vancomycin determination in plasma samples. Findings/Results: The developed HPLC assay indicated a calibration curve with R-square of > 0.999, acceptable selectivity, the accuracy of 90-105%, CV% of less than 15%, the limit of quantification of 1 μg/mL, and limit of detection of 300 ng/mL. Vancomycin trough level, the area under the curve, renal clearance, the volume of distribution,, and elimination constant were measured in patients using this validated method. Conclusion and implications: Validated method for assay of vancomycin plasma levels was used to quantify vancomycin levels of four patients who were admitted to the ICU of Nemazee Hospital. According to the results, two of these patients showed lower levels than recommended therapeutic purposes while one of them showed a toxic level. According to the results, the TDM assessment of vancomycin is strongly recommended for patients who are hospitalized in ICU. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Data on the prevalence and type of endocrine disorders in β-thalassemia intermedia (β-TI) patients are scarce. This multicenter study was designed to determine the prevalence of endocrine complications and the associated risk factors in a large group of β-TI patients., Methods: In this cross-sectional multicenter study, 726 β-TI patients, aged 2.5-80 years, registered at 12 thalassemic centers, from nine countries, were enrolled during 2017. In a subgroup of 522 patients (mean age 30.8 ± 12.1; range: 2.5-80 years) from Qatar, Iran, Oman, Cyprus, and Jordan detailed data were available., Results: Overall, the most prevalent complications were osteopenia/osteoporosis (22.3%), hypogonadism (10.1%), and primary hypothyroidism (5.3%). In the subgroup multivariate analysis, older age was a risk factor for osteoporosis (Odds ratio: 7.870, 95% CI: 4.729-13.099, P < 0.001), hypogonadism (Odds ratio: 6.310, 95% CI: 2.944-13.521, P < 0.001), and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM; Odds ratio: 17.67, 95% CI: 2.217-140.968, P = 0.007). Splenectomy was a risk factor for osteoporosis (Odds ratio: 1.736, 95% CI: 1.012-2.977, P = 0.045). Hydroxyurea was identified as a "protective factor" for NIDDM (Odds ratio: 0.259, 95% CI: 0.074-0.902, P = 0.034)., Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest cohort of β-TI patients with endocrine disorders evaluated in extremely heterogenic thalassemic populations for age, clinical, hematological, and molecular composition. The study demonstrates that endocrine complications are less common in patients with β-TI compared with β-TM patients. However, regular monitoring with timely diagnosis and proper management is crucial to prevent endocrine complications in β-TI patients.
