Qualitative analysis of water resources is one of the most widely used topics in water resources research today. Researchers use various analysis methods of water parameters to achieve the desired goals in this field. This research uses artificial intelligence (AI), learning machine (LM), data mining, and mathematical techniques to simulate water behavior and estimate its parametric changes. The proposed model used in this study was a Self-adaptive Extreme learning machine (SAELM) to estimate hydrogeological parameters of the Meghan wetland located in Markazi province in Iran. In addition, SAELM simulation results were compared to Least square support vector machine (LSSVM), Multiple linear regression (MLR), and Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) models. The simulated parameters were Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Groundwater Level (GWL), and salinity. This information was related to sampling for 175 months in the study area. Finally, after simulation operation, four models were introduced as superior models. Mentioned exceptional models were SAELM in GWL modeling, SAELM in modeling the EC, MLR in salinity simulation, and LSSVM in the simulation of TDS parameters. Moreover, by five approaches, the models' performance was evaluated. Suggested strategies were performance evaluation by statistical indicators, Wilson score method uncertainty analysis (WSMUA), response & correlation plots, discrepancy ratio charts, and distribution error diagrams. Based on statistical indicators, the SAELMGWL model was the most accurate model with RMSE, MAPE, and R2 indices equal to 0.1496, 0.0043, and 0.9933, respectively. Today, various methods have been developed to extract drinking water resources, which scientists use to simulate the quantitative and qualitative water resources parameters. Due to Iran's geographical and climatic characteristics, this region is located on the drought belt in Asia. In this research, some Artificial Intelligence (AI) and mathematical models have been used for groundwater level prediction. The AI models used for this research are Extreme Learning Machine (ELM), Least Square Support Vector Machine (LSSVM), Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) model. In this study, simultaneously, these models were used to simulate and estimate groundwater level (GWL). The database used in the simulation is the data related to the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Electrical Conductivity (EC), Salinity (S), and Time (t) parameters. The results showed that ELM was more accurate than other methods. The accurate determination of strength parameters of rocks such as uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and elastic modulus (E) using direct and laboratory methods require substantial time and cost. Therefore, the production of predictive relationships and models to forecast the UCS and E is of critical necessity in rock engineering. This study deals with the estimation of UCS and E of sandstones from petrographic characteristics by an artificial neural network (ANN) and multiple regression. For this purpose, 130 core specimens were prepared from sandstones in different locations in Iran. The specimens were tested to determine UCS, E, dry density, and porosity. Also, the petrographic studies including the determination of 11 textural and mineralogy parameters were performed on selected samples. The performance of the ANN model and regression analysis was evaluated using the criteria such as correlation coefficient (R), root mean squared error (RMSE), and variance account for (VAF). According to the ANN results, values of R, RMSE, and VAF were obtained to be 0.925, 0.089, and 97% for UCS and 0.876, 0.094, and 96% for E, respectively. In comparison, for the MLR model, the obtained R, RMSE, and VAF were 0.845, 0.101, and 95% for UCS and 0.797, 0.116, and 93% for E, respectively. A comparison between the findings illustrated that the ANN model was more suitable for forecasting the UCS and E compared with the MLR method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: As a result of concerns regarding possible health hazards of synthetic antioxidants, gallic acid and methyl gallate may be introduced as natural antioxidants to improve oxidative stability of marine oil. Since conventional modelling could not predict the oxidative parameters precisely, artificial neural network (ANN) and neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) modelling with three inputs, including type of antioxidant (gallic acid and methyl gallate), temperature (35, 45 and 55 °C) and concentration (0, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 mg L(-1) ) and four outputs containing induction period (IP), slope of initial stage of oxidation curve (k1 ) and slope of propagation stage of oxidation curve (k2 ) and peroxide value at the IP (PVIP ) were performed to predict the oxidation parameters of Kilka oil triacylglycerols and were compared to multiple linear regression (MLR)., Results: The results showed ANFIS was the best model with high coefficient of determination (R(2)  = 0.99, 0.99, 0.92 and 0.77 for IP, k1 , k2 and PVIP , respectively). So, the RMSE and MAE values for IP were 7.49 and 4.92 in ANFIS model. However, they were to be 15.95 and 10.88 and 34.14 and 3.60 for the best MLP structure and MLR, respectively. So, MLR showed the minimum accuracy among the constructed models., Conclusion: Sensitivity analysis based on the ANFIS model suggested a high sensitivity of oxidation parameters, particularly the induction period on concentrations of gallic acid and methyl gallate due to their high antioxidant activity to retard oil oxidation and enhanced Kilka oil shelf life. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry., (© 2016 Society of Chemical Industry.)
