A cross sectional study was conducted to assess the prevalence of Candida species that cause vulvovaginal candidiasis among the female genital tract. 500 vaginal swabs were collected randomly from women in Al-Batoul Teaching Hospital in Diyala-Iraq for the period from October 2019 to February 2020. The samples from the women include 333 pregnant and 167 non-pregnant and the age group ranging from (13 - 59) years. The results of the diagnosis of routine diagnostic test and by using Candida Chromogenic agar, showed that there was a diversity of fungal species. The positive growth for Candida species was 71(14.2%) isolates. C.albicans was the most fungi isolated which was (66.19%) followed by C.tropicalis, C.parapsilosis, C.glabrata and C.krusei which was (12.67%, 11.26%, 8.45% and 1.40% respectively). The results showed that the highest percentage of candidiasis was in pregnant women (62%) and in the age group 21-30 (49.20%). The results showed a variation of resistance to the antifungal used in this study by the isolates, the results showed that Caspofungin was the most effective antifungal against Candida spp. the resistance to CAS in C.albicans, C.tropicalis, C.parapsilosis, C.glabrata and C.krusei was (21.27%, 0%, 0.%, 0%, 0% respectively), while the resistance to Fluconazole was (27.67%, 0%, 37.50%, 0%, 100% respectively) and the resistance to Amphotericin B was (76.59%, 22.22%, 50.0%, 25.0%, 0% respectively).
