This study was designated to evaluate the changes that occur in certain blood characteristics in beta-thalassemia patients. The study looked at cases of patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia treated in the specialized hematology center, Baquba educational hospital. Ninety blood samples of the transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients (43 male and 47 female), while healthy volunteers group 39 male and 51 female with age between (10-40) years. The detection of the betathalassemia was depended on the history of the family and hemoglobin concentrations. Levels of WBC, RBC, PLT, HCT, HGB, random Glucose test were measured, results showed a significant increase (P<0.05) in each measured of WBC, PLT, wherever the decreased levels of RBC, HCT, HGB significantly (P<0.05) and no marked effect differences at (P>0.05) between the females and the males in β- Thalassemia patients in random Glucose test. Total RBC, PLT, HCT, HGB, random Glucose test levels were studied in the blood by technology and photometry as measurement method using ABX micros 60 hematology analyzer and automated chemistry analyzer using Cobas Integra analyzer. The Graph pad prism software (V.6) is used for analyzing the data [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
