The author offers commentaries on the use of political term surge by former U.S. President George W. Bush in his 2006 State of the Union address concerning the war in Iraq. It argues that the term surge used by the Bush administration evokes spatial and geographical connotations, suggesting power achievements through the number of U.S. troops deployed to Iraq. The author also provides an overview of the conditions of the war in Iraq, as well as U.S. military strategy and patriotism connected with support for the war.
