The article discusses efforts to ban smoking across the world. Ireland implemented a ban on smoking in all indoor workplaces. Other countries, including New Zealand, followed Ireland's lead and introduced their own smoking bans. The World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the world's first international public health treaty, calls for countries to take measures to curb smoking and implement clean-air policies. The shift in social norms moving away from the acceptance of cigarette smoke-filled rooms is discussed.
