The article discusses controversies surrounding abortion in Ireland, focusing on the 1983 eighth amendment to Ireland's constitution that stated that abortion could not be introduced by legislation or the courts. It comments on the Pro-Life Amendment Campaign (PLAC), as well as the Anti-Amendment Campaign. The 1992 Irish Supreme Court Case known as the X Case, which ruled abortion legal if the pregnant woman's life was at risk, is explored.
