The Israeli television series Fauda tells the story of an undercover unit pursuing a notorious terrorist to avenge terror attacks that he masterminded and to prevent his future attacks. The series bolsters Israeli collectivity by re-enacting past traumas and capitalizing on the fear of traumas yet to come, but it also dismantles national unity by portraying other ways for individuals to develop relationships with the collectives to which they belong and by attempting to find alternative temporalities to 'traumatic time' that returns to haunt the present from the future. While the plot aims to reinforce national identity by overcoming situations of imminent disaster, the televisual language creates another time based on overlaps between the various narrative threads of both Israeli and Palestinian identities, thus opening up new opportunities for co-existence and another relationship between the singular and the plural. The article attempts to start a conversation among the Jewish community in Israel and the Diaspora about how historical traumas continue to influence the meaning of collective experiences. Following traumatic events, a person seeks a meaning to his or her collective experience. It is said that unhealed trauma on an individual can have long-term debilitating effects on the person's capacity to love and establish a trusting relationship. It is noted that posttraumatic narratives can help people express and manage their thoughts and feelings about their experiences.

This study examined the differential impact of various types of trauma exposure on emotional and behavioral problems in preschool children. Participants were 95 mothers of 1- to 4-year-old children in Israel. Results suggested a differential pattern of associations between the types of trauma exposure (i.e., direct exposure to terrorism, media exposure to terrorism, and other trauma) and children's internalizing and externalizing problems. This line of research is important for the identification of risk factors and the development of effective prevention and intervention strategies to promote resilience in preschool children exposed to specific type(s) of trauma. Beginning in September 2000, terror attacks and large numbers of casualties became part of Israel's harrowing daily routine. The attacks occurred throughout the country, putting everyone at risk. These events also shattered the illusion of coexistence between Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel and led to feelings of anger and suspicion between the two sectors. During this period we continued to conduct supervision groups for professionals in the helping professions, with some of these groups consisting of both Jewish and Arab participants. We expected to see the social conflict reflected in our groups, but they behaved quite differently. In light of our experience, this paper deals with the question of whether, at a time of existential threat and violent social conflict, the group can serve as a safe space for the participants and how external processes affect the level of group work and its basic assumptions.
