Background: Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) aim to evaluate the quality of care based on the perspectives of patients rather than clinical indicators. Qualitative research is needed to identify these perspectives in people with type 2 diabetes. Objective: To identify, for the first time in Israel, aspects valuable for people with type 2 diabetes that can be relevant for PROMs in diabetes care. Methods: A qualitative study included three focus groups totalling 19 people with type 2 diabetes. Inclusion criteria were: (1)type 2 diabetes, (2)diabetes duration of at least six months, and (3)adults aged 45–80 years. Purposive sampling enabled recruitment of heterogeneous participants. Also, two experts' panels with healthcare providers involved in diabetes care (n = 23) were conducted to provide triangulation of information (more testimony about what is valuable for people with type 2 diabetes). Discussions were recorded, transcribed and thematically analysed. Results: Four domains were deemed valuable for people with type 2 diabetes: (1)challenges of living with diabetes, including reduced physical function, healthy lifestyle struggles, sexual dysfunction, and financial burden, (2)mental health issues, including depression, distress, anxiety, frustration, and loneliness, (3)self-management ability, including management of lifestyle modifications and treatment, knowledge about the disease and treatment, and (4)patient-clinician relationships, including the devotion of clinicians, trust in clinicians and treatment, shared decision-making, and multidisciplinary care under one roof. Experts favour using PROMs in diabetes routine care and even acknowledged their necessity to improve the treatment process. However, only some of the domains raised by people with type 2 diabetes were identified by the experts. Conclusions: There are content gaps between perspectives of people with type 2 diabetes and their healthcare providers. PROMs are essential in addressing issues largely not addressed in routine diabetes care. We recommend that researchers and healthcare providers, who intend to utilize PROMs for diabetes care, consider the aforementioned domains. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A major sphere of action in which parents engage in the management of risk on behalf of their children—primarily through the gendered work of mothering—is that of education and schooling. This article explores the endeavors on the part of middle‐class Israeli mothers hailing from three social‐cultural groups—immigrants from the former Soviet Union, Palestinian Israelis, and Jewish Israelis—to manage the risks of schooling, as they perceive these to be. We ask: What do the women share, and how do they differ in their understandings of the failings of school and the risks attached? How do they choose to act in response to these perceived risks? In posing these questions, we seek to explore the ways in which the perception of risk, the experience of anxiety, and the navigation of schooling are shaped at the nexus of class, culture, and social positioning. 'This study focuses on the case of 1.5 million Jewish soldiers who fought in the Allied Armies in WWII and explores its place in Israeli social memory. For decades the story of military combat and sacrifice of WWII Jewish soldiers was marginalized in the Israeli mnemonic narrative. Over the years, different groups of ex-servicemen living in Israel kept alive the memory of their involvement in the combat and contested its silencing and marginalization. Weaving the texture of those events from the dual strands of forgetting and remembering, I elucidate on the process by which, the national historical narrative was formed, revealing the dynamics of Israeli nationalism and showing how symbolic boundaries of national belonging were reshaped over time. Focusing on a group of elderly immigrants from the former USSR living in Israel, this ethnographic study examines a matter that has received scant attention in the literature: immigration in old age and the complex relationship of older immigrants to the host country. Finding themselves in a situation of multiple marginality, these immigrants search for a means of belonging in their new country. In this particular group, a narrative of the past--that of their service in the Red Army during WWII--is the central symbolic resource mobilized in forging an identity of honor and esteem within the host society and in constructing their narrative of inclusion. By observing the present circumstances of the elderly immigrants' lives and exploring their pasts in light of sociopolitical factors and social memory frames of the former and host societies, the article demonstrates how a soldiering identity serves the veterans in restoring the rupture between past and present. The veterans' Victory Day parade held in Jerusalem, marking the Allied defeat of Nazi Germany, epitomizes their commemorative work and shows how their identity of belonging is constructed. This study deals with the commemoration of the "migrating past" in a new country. The case in focus is the group of Red Army WWII veterans who immigrated to Israel in the 1990s. These elderly immigrant ex-soldiers turn to their combat past, the main symbolic capital in their struggle for belonging in the host country. Performing commemorative work that is embedded in the mnemonic praxis of Soviet veteran culture, the elderly immigrants construct individual, collective and civic identities in their new homeland. The study sheds light on veterans' commemorative practices as a venue for struggling with the rupture created by the interweaving of old age and migration. The study objectifies the experience of war as a powerful symbolic resource for individual empowerment and social mobilization in the contexts of nation-states and flourishing militarism.
