The following paper applies a constructivist model for the socialization of international human rights norms to the Israeli case. It uses the spiral model, suggested by Risse, Ropp and Sikkink (1999), which outlines the stages of socialization and the different forces working together to bring a change in the policies of norm violating governments. I examine human rights violations of the Palestinians in the territories occupied by Israel since 1967, and offer two major theoretical extensions to the spiral model: (1) the model is applicable for democracies, and carries some distinct characteristics and variations when applied to them; and (2) the spiral model is more "fluid" than what Risse et al. propose, that is to say that different violations of human rights and the processes of change in these violations are more segmented and reversible than what is argued by the authors. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
