Abstract

The author examines the oil spill in Jiyeh from the Israeli-Lebanese conflict in 2006 as a case study for the application of humanitarian law principles and for the protection of the environment during times of armed conflict. The author presents the two fundamental protections for the environment which form the basis for application of international humanitarian law. The author also discusses the impact of the oil spill on the environment, health and economy.
