The signing of the agreement between the Bonn Republic, the government of Israel and the Conference on "Jewish Material Claims Against Germany," committing Western Germany to pay $822,000,000 in compensation for Nazi damage to Jewish property, brings to some kind of token moral conclusion perhaps the most barbarous chapter of World War II. To Dr. Nabum Goldmann, chairman of the American Section of the Jewish Agency and chairman of the Conference, comprising twenty-four world Jewish organizations, goes a large share of the credit for reaching a decent compromise on the initial sum asked by Israel and the Jewish organizations.
