The enhancement of flexibility, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness constitutes a widely acknowledged trend in the development of urban infrastructure. The proliferation of various types of transportation vehicles exacerbates the complexity of traffic regulation. Intelligent transportation systems, leveraging real-time traffic status prediction technologies, such as velocity estimation, emerge as viable solutions for the efficacious management and control of urban road networks. The objective of this project is to address the complex task of increasing accuracy in predicting traffic conditions on a big scale using deep learning techniques. To accomplish the objective of the study, the historical traffic data of Paris and Istanbul within a certain timeframe were used, considering the impact of variables such as speed, traffic volume, and direction. Specifically, traffic movie clips based on 2 years of real-world data for the two cities were utilized. The movies were generated with HERE data derived from over 100 billion GPS (Global Positioning System) probe points collected from a substantial fleet of automobiles. The model presented by us, unlike the majority of previous ones, takes into account the cumulative impact of speed, flow, and direction. The developed model showed better results compared to the well-known models, in particular, in comparison with the SR-ResNet model. The pixel-wise MAE (mean absolute error) values for Paris and Istanbul were 4.299 and 3.884 respectively, compared to 4.551 and 3.993 for SR-ResNET. Thus, the created model demonstrated the possibilities for further enhancing the accuracy and efficacy of intelligent transportation systems, particularly in large urban centres, thereby facilitating heightened safety, energy efficiency, and convenience for road users. The obtained results will be useful for local policymakers responsible for infrastructure development planning, as well as for specialists and researchers in the field. Future research should investigate how to incorporate more sources of information, in particular previous information from physical traffic flow models, information about weather conditions, etc. into the deep learning framework, as well as further increasing of the throughput capacity and reducing processing time. We computed a 3-D shear wave velocity model of the Marmara Sea region from ambient noise tomography. The correlations of up to 8 yr of vertical-component seismic recordings from 80 broad-band stations provided Rayleigh wave group velocity measurements in the period band 6–21 s at more than 1400 selected virtual source–receiver pairs. Rayleigh wave group velocity maps were used to derive a shear wave velocity model through simulated annealing inversion. The resulting crustal model provides coverage of the Marmara Sea along with its surrounding regional tectonic features. This allows for an investigation of the spatial extents of the Marmara Sea on a scale larger than that of basins. The low-velocity structures of the Marmara Sea and the Thrace Basins are coeval to a depth of approximately 9 km. The crustal velocities beneath the Marmara Sea basins exhibit a low vertical gradient and smooth horizontal variations. The regional tectonic structures, such as Istranca Massif, Istanbul and Sakarya Zones, display sharp velocity contrasts with the lower velocity crust beneath the Marmara Sea. The observed low crustal velocities, along with depth variations of the velocity isosurfaces (i.e. 3.4 km s−1) indicate that the Marmara region is a structural depression much deeper and larger than the three basins of the North Marmara Trough. The North Anatolian Fault Zone is unlikely to be the primary factor contributing to the origin of this significant depression, as the basin's development appears to have occurred before the fault propagated into the region. In this research, we investigate the surface displacements in the regions where the buildings collapsed. Istanbul has a surface that is active for earthquakes. As the construction regulations have been changed after the year 2000, it is expected that the buildings built after this year, are much safer due to the strict retime series. But the majority of the buildings are at high risk since they are constructed before the year 2000. Therefore suddenly collapsing buildings are an often case in Istanbul, and we have investigated six buildings that collapsed during the six-year time. The used data are Sentinel 1 Radar images. The methodology is SBAS provided by the COMET-LiCS portal. The study area is Istanbul-Türkiye. six buildings are selected for the investigation. The velocity of the displacements and the time series of the whole displacements on the building locations have been plotted. The neighbouring areas of the collapsed buildings are also investigated and analysed if there are any surface displacement changes between them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We use observations of surface waves in the ambient noise field recorded at a dense seismic array to image the North Anatolian Fault zone (NAFZ) in the region of the 1999 magnitude 7.6 Izmit earthquake in western Turkey. The NAFZ is a major strike-slip fault system extending ∼1200 km across northern Turkey that poses a high level of seismic hazard, particularly to the city of Istanbul. We obtain maps of phase velocity variation using surface wave tomography applied to Rayleigh and Love waves and construct high-resolution images of S-wave velocity in the upper 10 km of a 70 × 30 km region around Lake Sapanca. We observe low S-wave velocities (<2.5 km s -1) associated with the Adapazari and Pamukova sedimentary basins, as well as the northern branch of the NAFZ. In the Armutlu Block, between the two major branches of the NAFZ, we image higher velocities (>3.2 km s -1) associated with a shallow crystalline basement. We measure azimuthal anisotropy in our phase velocity observations, with the fast direction seeming to align with the strike of the fault at periods shorter than 4 s. At longer periods up to 10 s, the fast direction aligns with the direction of maximum extension for the region (∼45 ∘). The signatures of both the northern and southern branches of the NAFZ are clearly associated with strong gradients in seismic velocity that also denote the boundaries of major tectonic units. Abstract: Single station seismic noise measurements were carried out at 192 sites in the western part of Istanbul, Turkey. This extensive survey allowed the fundamental resonance frequency of the sedimentary cover to be mapped, and identify areas prone to site amplification. The results are in good agreement with the geological distribution of sedimentary units, indicating a progressive decrease of the fundamental resonance frequencies from the northeastern part, where the bedrock outcrops, towards the southwestern side, where a thickness of some hundreds meters for the sedimentary cover is estimated. The particular distribution of fundamental resonance frequencies indicates that local amplification of the ground motion might play a significative role in explaining the anomalous damage distribution after the 17 August 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake. Furthermore, 2D array measurements of seismic noise were performed in the metropolitan area with the aim of obtaining a preliminary geophysical characterization of the different sedimentary covers. These measurements allow the estimation of the shear-wave velocity profile for some representative areas and the identification of the presence of strong impedance contrast responsible of seismic ground motion amplification. Comparison of a theoretical site response from an estimated S-wave velocity profile with an empirical one based on earthquake recordings strongly encourages the use of the low cost seismic noise techniques for the study of seismic site effects. The aim of this study is to predict peak particle velocity level at a limestone quarry located in Istanbul, Turkey. The ground vibration components were measured for 73 blast events during the bench blast optimization studies during a long period. In blasting operations; ANFO (blasting agent), gelatine dynamite (priming) and NONEL detonators (firing) were used as explosives at this site. Parameters of scaled distance (charge quantity per delay and the distance between the source and the station) were recorded carefully and the ground vibration components were measured by means of vibration monitors for every event. Then, the data pairs of scaled distance and particle velocity were analyzed. The equation of scaled distance extensively used in the literature was taken into consideration for the prediction of peak particle velocity. At the end of statistical evaluations, an empirical relationship with good correlation was established between peak particle velocity and scale distance for this site. Turkey poses a complex crustal structure as a result of the convergence of the Arabian and African plates. The North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) represents 1600 km long active right-lateral strike-slip fault system of the country that has caused several destructive earthquakes. Location of historical earthquakes indicates that the activity on the fault tends to migrate westward. In the western part of NAFZ, there is a seismic gap inside the Sea of Marmara. Reliable knowledge of physical properties of the crustal structure of the unruptured segment within the Sea of Marmara is crucial for proper seismic hazard assessments considering that the megacity Istanbul with its millions of habitants, is closely located to this seismic gap. In this study, ambient seismic noise tomography, for the first time, has been applied to obtain a high-resolution image of the crustal structure of northwestern Turkey. For forward estimation of traveltimes, we employed the Fast Marching Method. A Bayesian framework was utilized to invert traveltime residuals extracted from Green's functions for the Rayleigh wave group velocity models at various frequencies. Besides the Transdimensional Bayesian tomography imaging, we also applied a rather simple and computationally fast 2-D nonlinear tomography scheme on the same data-set to gain a rough idea on group velocity variation in the regions. Our high-resolution tomographic images included group velocities of Rayleigh waves resolved between 1 and 20 s. Lateral variation of group velocities successfully revealed the basin structures such as Çınarcık, Tekirdağ, and Adapazarı Basins between periods 1 and 10 s that are characterized by typically low group velocities with low uncertainties. The low-velocity zones appear to mark well weakness zones along the NAFZ in the crust and the complex structure due to the active tectonics of the Anatolia. Finally, different tectonic units, in particular, to the east were identified from each other as our maps highlight Istanbul-Zonguldak Zone from Armutlu-Almacik Block with a sharp high to low-velocity change in N-S direction.
