In 1964, when the "living" theatre appeared to be dying in New York, theater in Italy began changing from an author-oriented to a performance-oriented, nonliterary form. The articles in this document trace the historical development of Italian theatre and analyze current dramas which demonstrate the diversity of approaches and the energy and commitment of Italian theatrical art. The topics discussed include the "adriani lazzi" of the "commedia dell'arte," the theatre of the grotesque, contemporary Italian Theatre, the theatre of Meme Perlini, and the post avant-garde theatre movement. The following dramas are analyzed individually: Giuliano Vasilico's "Proust," Group Altro's "ICS,""Ostal" by Cfr. (an Italian experimental group), Spazio Zero's "To Salvatore Giuliano," Ouroboros's"The Death of Geometry," Stran'amore's "City Lights,""La Gaia Scienza," and Il Carrozzone's "Presages of the Vampire." The scenery, acting style, theme, and plot are described for each drama and numerous photographs of actual presentations accompany the articles. The document also includes an interview with Dario Fo, a well-known Italian actor who began acting in the postwar years, and reviews of nine new books on the dramatic arts. (MAI)

Pressure solution processes taking place during diagenesis deeply modify the hydraulic properties of carbonates, affecting their mechanical layering and hence the dimension, distribution, and connectivity of high-angle fractures. The formation of stylolites is controlled by the texture of the host rock and therefore by the depositional environment and the diagenetic processes that involve it. This study reports the results of a multidisciplinary study carried out on a Jurassic–Cretaceous carbonate platform in southern Italy. The goal is to unravel the control exerted by single carbonate textures and specific diagenetic processes on the formation of bed-parallel stylolites. Microfacies analyses of thin sections are aimed at obtaining information regarding the composition and texture of the carbonates. Petrographic observations coupled with CL analyses are key to deciphering their diagenetic history. Results are consistent with carbonates originally deposited in a shallow-water realm in which carbonate mud is occasionally abundant. In this environment, early cementation inhibits their chemical compaction. In grain-supported facies, pressure solution is only localized at the grain contacts. During shallow burial diagenesis, precipitation of blocky calcite predates the formation of bed-parallel stylolites in the grain-supported facies. Contrarily, mud-supported facies favor chemical compaction, which results in stylolites showing a good lateral extension and thick sediment infill. A classification of different types of stylolite morphology is attempted in relation to facies texture. In detail, rougher morphology (sharp-peak) characterizes the stylolites nucleated in grain-supported facies, while smoother morphology (rectangular to wave-like) is observed in stylolites on mud-supported facies. Application of this knowledge can be helpful in constraining the diagenetic history of carbonate rocks cored from depth, and therefore predict the fracture stratigraphy properties of carbonates buried at depth. Aim was to investigate the propensity to switch to long-acting injectable HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with cabotegravir among oral PrEP-experienced men who have sex with men. Out of 377 PrEP users, 325 (86.2%) were interested (would like = 210) or considering (would consider = 115) switch to long-acting PrEP. At multivariable analysis, the odds ratio of interest in long-acting PrEP in non-adherent vs. adherent individuals to oral PrEP was 5.03 (95%CI = 1.73–14.61,p = 0.003) and of consideration 1.63 (95%CI = 0.51–5.23,p = 0.410). We observed very high propensity to switch to long-acting PrEP, particularly among non-adherent users. Rapid availability of long-acting PrEP might address unmet needs of PrEP users in Italy. This study aims to investigate the weight of surface acting (a condition in which subjects must display an emotional state that does not correspond to their real feelings) in the relationship between the emotional load of nursing work and the perception of health, and to evaluate the moderating effect of age and length of service. A moderated mediation analysis was conducted on a sample of 359 Italian nurses. The results confirmed the mediation role of surface acting and showed that both age and seniority have moderating effects so that in conditions of high emotional load, older and more experienced nurses show higher levels of surface acting, and in conditions of high surface acting, younger and less experienced nurses show lower levels of perceived health. In conclusion, surface acting seems a stressor for younger nurses, not yet used to the weight of faking emotions, while the perceived emotional load seems a stressor for older and more experienced nurses. Building on cognitive appraisal theory of stress, we examined the direct relationship between the emotional labor strategies of employees (i.e., surface and deep acting) and outcomes (i.e., psychological strain and creativity). In addition, we investigated the indirect relationship between emotional labor strategies and outcomes via job stressors (i.e., challenge and hindrance stressors). We collected time-lagged data from service sector employees in Italy and tested the data using path analysis. We found that surface acting predicted psychological strain and creativity, and the indirect relationship between surface acting and outcomes via hindrance stressor was significant. Whereas, deep acting predicted psychological strain but not creativity and the indirect relationship between deep acting and psychological strain via challenge stressor was significant. Our data failed to support the indirect association between deep acting and creativity. Our study highlighted that emotion regulation strategies of employees were related to challenge and hindrance stressors and thus underlines that employees should carefully manage their emotional displays at work. Cabotegravir and rilpivirine are the first drugs to be approved as injectable therapy to treat individuals with HIV. Despite encouraging results, the guidelines specify strict criteria for eligibility that could limit the feasibility of this strategy. We collected the clinical data of HIV‐positive patients who were being treated at a single, third‐level center in Italy. All patients were on stable therapy and showed suppressed viral load on their most recent analyses. We performed a cross‐sectional analysis of the clinical and viro‐immunological characteristics of this population and excluded patients who had previous virological failures, resistance‐associated mutations (RAMs) to rilpivirine or integrase inhibitors in the historical genotype, hepatitis B infection, absence of previous genotypes, and the coexistence of HIV‐subtype A and obesity. Our aim was to evaluate the proportion of patients who could be eligible for switching to this strategy. one thousand seven hundred fifty‐two patients were eligible. One hundred and forty‐eight were excluded because of a detectable viral load. With regard to the exclusion criteria, 48 patients had coinfection with hepatitis B virus, and 744 had a history of previous virological failures. Of the 896 patients with at least one genotypic resistance test, 161 had one or more RAMs to rilpivirine and 3 had RAMs to cabotegravir. None of the patients presented the combination of obesity and the A viral subtype. Overall, 31.2% of the patients were ineligible for cabotegravir–rilpivirine, and the proportion increased to 47.3% when we considered only patients with all available information concerning resistance tests. Approximately half of our cohort of patients did not fulfill the criteria and even more patients were potentially ineligible for cabotegravir–rilpivirine due to the lack of genotypic resistance tests. Aim: The study was designed to generate real-world evidence on IDegLira in the Italian clinical practice in two groups of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), switching to IDegLira either from a basal only (basal group) or basal-bolus insulin regimen (BB group)., Materials and Methods: This was a non-interventional, multicentre, single-cohort, prospective study assessing the long-term glycaemic control in patients with T2D, who switched to IDegLira from a basal insulin ± glucose-lowering medication regimen with or without a bolus insulin component for approximately 18 months, conducted in 28 Italian diabetes centres. The primary endpoint was the change in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels from baseline to 6 months after IDegLira initiation., Results: The study included 358 patients with a mean age 67.2 years and diabetes duration of 15.7 years. HbA1c significantly decreased from IDegLira start to all study time points in the overall population (basal group -1.19%; BB group -0.60% at the end of observation). Patients achieving HbA1c <7% levels increased from 12.9% (n = 43) to 40.3% (n = 110) at 18 months. Fasting blood glucose and body weight also significantly decreased in both groups, although more in the BB group. Overall, 14.3% of completed patients had an intensification of treatment (mainly in the basal group) and 48.6% had a simplification of treatment (mainly in the BB group)., Conclusions: Switching to IDegLira in a real-world clinical setting is a valid therapeutic option for patients with T2D with inadequate glycaemic control on basal or BB insulin regimen and/or need to simplify their insulin therapy, with specific reasons and therapeutic goals according to different T2D management trajectories., (© 2024 The Authors. The guidelines for borderline personality disorder (BPD) treatment suggest non-pharmacological treatment as the first option, but second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs) are among the overprescribed medications. This study aimed to explore Italian psychiatrists' attitudes toward off-label use of SGAs in BPD. A randomly selected sample of Italian psychiatrists completed a questionnaire regarding off-label prescription of SGAs. Most respondents reported the off-label use of SGAs. Among the reasons supporting the prescription of SGAs, the presence of strong published data was the most determining factor (51.5%). The SGA olanzapine is considered the most appropriate, followed by quetiapine and aripiprazole. Although off-label prescription of SGAs represents a common clinical practice in accordance with a worldwide trend, the use of long-acting injection formulations was considered inappropriate by 69% of psychiatrists in our sample. Our results reiterate the discrepancy between everyday clinical practice and international recommendations, and show how relevant the literature is in off-label drug prescription. Our aim is to culturally adapt the first section of the Patient Continuity of Care Questionnaire (PCCQ) for use among older Italian patients with chronic diseases and to test its psychometric properties. The PCCQ was translated, adapted to the Italian context, and completed by 236 older inpatients with chronic diseases at the point of discharge through a cross-sectional multi-centre validation study. Face and content validity were assessed. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with Mplus MLr estimator was conducted. Internal consistency was analysed through Cronbach's alpha and factor score determinacy coefficients. The overall content validity index of the 15-item Italian version of the questionnaire was 0.9. The EFA revealed a four-factor model yielding adequate fit indices. The factor score determinacy coefficients ranged from 0.87 to 0.94. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged from 0.71 to 0.86 showing good reliability. The study provides health professionals with an instrument with adequate psychometric properties to assess patients' perception of the information received before hospital discharge. The coronavirus pandemic is a world-historical event. We live in a post-Covid world. This paper addresses how Gestalt therapy's concepts of intentionality, contacting, and relationality come together as the intentionality of contacting that form the fabric of relationality. These concepts are presented from a clinical phenomenological and personal perspective of the author in New York City at the height of the pandemic. Work externalisation has challenged the ability of industrial unions to represent workers along the value chain and sustain solidaristic policies, leading to the growing fragmentation of wages and working conditions. This article aims to complement institutionalist analyses of unions' strategies towards peripheral workers by pointing at the role of the labour process. The authors argue that variations in the bargaining strategies and their outcomes for different types of peripheral workers can be explained by observing the extent to which the use of different external work arrangements for specific tasks challenges the logic of industrial unionism. The findings rely on a structured comparison of unions' responses to the use of agency work and on-site subcontracting in four plants owned by two multinational companies in Italy and Germany. The directions provided by the Court are clear in considering that the limit on subcontracting imposed by Italian legislation is precluded by Directive 2014/24/EU. The percentage limit fixed in general and abstract terms goes beyond what was necessary to achieve its objective specially in relation to combat organised crime and may make it more difficult for the SMEs to access public contracts. Labour contracting is anywhere on the rise globally, even in fully developed capitalist countries. Far from being an anomaly in the smooth everyday functioning of the economy, contractors are a crucial node in facilitating and ensuring global capital's control over local labour regimes. This article uses a global value chain perspective to investigate the re‐emergence of gangmasters and gang labour in the agricultural sector of Lazio, Central Italy. It analyses the fruit and vegetable supply chain formation and configuration in the Lazio Region with the aim of identifying the underlying processes leading to the creation of gangmasters by capital to have a cheap and disposable, especially migrant, labour force. The study is aimed at retrospectively estimating the percentage of inpatients with severe acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) who met the early discharged (ED) criteria adapted from Nathwani et al. (Int J Antimicrob Agents. 2016 Aug;48(2):127-36) and to calculate the number of hospitalization days that could be potentially saved. A retrospective study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital in Florence, Italy. We included all patients admitted for cellulitis and post-surgical infections from 2014 to 2017. Demographic and clinical data were obtained from electronic medical records. We a priori defined the following as a risk factor for non-adherence (RFNA): active or on methadone intravenous drug users, homeless, migrants without health care assistance, and patients who need a caregiver to take prescribed medications. One hundred sixty-two subjects were enrolled. Of them, 94 (58.0%) were male, and 113 (69.7%) had cellulitis/erysipelas. A microbiological isolate was obtained in 51 patients (31.4%); Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequent (47%). Eighty-four (51.8%) were ED suitable, with 258 (49.0%) patient days potentially saved. Among the 78 not ED suitable patients, the most common reason for prolonged length of stay (LOS) was having at least one RFNA (34.6%). Fourteen (18.0%) had one RFNA. Half of the patients admitted in our hospital met the ED criteria with a sparing close to 50% in terms of hospitalization days. Unstable social and personal factors were the most frequent causes for prolonged LOS. This paper investigates the structural features and performances of small firms interacting inside regional production networks, with particular regard to Italian industrial districts specialized in footwear production. A typological classification of the various participants in the supply chains is introduced and used to interpret the performances of the main groups identified, focusing on a five-year period following the 2008 financial crisis. The empirical investigation is conducted using an innovative archive containing detailed information on a large share of Italian micro and small firms that are generally excluded from most firm-level databases. The results show that, inside industrial districts, subcontractors are best described as a set of heterogeneous agents with distinct identities and idiosyncratic approaches to the market. The most widely diffused type of supplier still retains most of the structural characteristics traditionally described by the literature. However, industrial districts are also characterized by the presence of advanced forms of subcontractors whose organizational structure differs from that of a traditional supplier: in fact, such producers share more commonalities with end product firms. The analysis of the performances indicates that advanced subcontractors displayed better results during the period 2008–2012, while traditional suppliers tend to occupy a peripheral position in most subcontracting networks. Counting musicians: a London catalogue aria in context Catalogue arias were a regular feature of 18th-century continental opera, but as it happens, in the 125 or so Italian opere buffe staged in London between before 1800, this aria type was a comparative rarity. The catalogue was an identifiable buffa aria sub-genre, and its text could list almost anything: the 18th-century London audience heard lists of food, employers and cooking. Probably the first such aria they heard was the list of estates in Il filosofo di campanga in the 1760-61 season, the first in which opera buffa was a serious force on the London stage. This article briefly examines the use of the genre in London, but then turns to its employment in a new English comic opera called The Travellers in Switzerland by Henry Bate Dudley with music compiled by William Shield. It argues that while on the face of it the aria lists Italian musicians and is an apparent satire on the pretentions of the type of dilettante that could be found at the Opera House, salons and musical gatherings of the capital, it also comments on the artistic pretensions and delusions of The Travellers in Switzerland's main character, Count Fripponi. Seismic imaging is the most common tool to detect subsurface structures in continental and marine settings. Despite technological advancement, seismic analysis of carbonates is still challenging because they are strongly influenced by petrophysical heterogeneities, being this even more difficult when further heterogeneities are added by the presence of faults. In this work, unmigrated forward-seismic models are developed to understand the seismic response changes related to carbonate-bearing fault systems and their deformation behaviour. We focus on the carbonate ramp of the Majella Massif (central Italy), that is characterised by the presence of porous and faulted carbonate lithologies. This carbonate system represents an analogue of carbonate reservoirs worldwide. Field and laboratory data of fault rocks sampled at increasing distances from the slip planes highlight a damage zone/fault core architecture with a decreasing porosity approaching fault planes. This observation is also confirmed by the thin sections analysis and the calculation of the shear modulus. Seismic images of fault rocks presenting lower porosity than the host rock show weak diffraction hyperbolas while diffraction hyperbolas are more evident in the forward-seismic models of fault rocks with greater porosity than the host rock. Moreover, factors such as the variation in the dip angle of the fault or the thickness of the damage zone can enhance or reduce the hyperbolas. Performing the migration process to stacked sections would not provide evidence of increased porosity in the damage zone due to the suppression of the diffractive component. The presence of weak hyperbolas in unmigrated seismic images is thus interpreted as evidence of a lower porosity damage zone with respect to the host rock. This can be related to deformation mechanisms leading to porosity loss in the damage zone for porous rocks as observed in the study area. However, this could also be related to the confining stress or fracture filling that counteract the fracture-related porosity increase when faults are hosted by tight rocks. • We integrated field and laboratory data to carry out 2D forward modelling. • We developed a workflow linking geocellular model and forward seismic modelling. • The deformation behaviour of carbonate fault rocks can generate compaction bands. • Modification of petrophysics in the damage zone leads to different seismic images. • Diffractions analysis can lead to new insights on buried carbonate fault zone. Non-residential buildings like healthcare ones contribute to energy consumption and cause a negative environmental impact. This is mainly due to the age of the buildings, their poor level of energy efficiency and the implementation of only a basic maintenance plan. Owing to the very limited budget available for public administrators, Energy Performance Contracting (EPC), that entails the involvement of an Energy Service Company (ESCo), can provide the entire or part of the capital needed for investments aimed at progressively increasing energy efficiency over their service life. In this paper, three acute hospitals and two community clinics built in Italy are analysed, in order to assess the economic feasibility of several energy renovation actions that can be included within EPC contracts. To this purpose, the outcomes of energy audits carried out in 2014 about these buildings are reported, which involved analyses of consumption measured over the previous three years and assessment of use profiles for the development of models to break down the overall consumption and to estimate potential savings. Diverse improvement strategies were assessed, consisting in either isolated or combined renovation actions and tested on the five buildings, whose comparison was carried out in terms of energy saving, pollution reduction and economic feasibility. As a result, the best combined renovation actions per each hospital were recommended, that included – but were not limited to – the improvement of the control and regulation of existing sub-systems without replacement, partial replacement of other sub-systems and integration of renewables. Finally, each scenario was evaluated through the payback period and other economic performance indexes in order to assess the feasibility of the EPC framework when applied to this case study. Analyses of elicited pantomime, primarily of English-speaking children, show that preschool-aged children are more likely to symbolically represent an object with gestures depicting an object's form rather than its function. In contrast, anecdotal reports of spontaneous gesture production in younger children suggest that children use multiple representational techniques. This study examined the spontaneous gestures of sixty-four 2-year-old Italian children and English-speaking Canadian children, primarily from middle-class Caucasian families. The Italian children produced twice as many gestures as Canadian children in a picture-naming task but produced a similar range of representational techniques. Two-year-olds were equally likely to produce gestures depicting function as form. These data suggest young children's communicative skills are supported by a symbolic capacity that reflects contextual communicative demands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since restoration of its independence in 1991 Azerbaijan has paid particular attention to development of its political and economic ties with developed market economies. One of the countries which became strategic partner for Azerbaijan is Italy. During recent years Italy and Azerbaijan have signed a number of bilateral documents related to development of economic relations thus creating solid legislative basis for bilateral cooperation. Italy and Azerbaijan made remarkable achievements in developing bilateral cooperation in oil and gas sector, including oil and gas refinery and transportation. Cooperation in this area will definitely continue due to the strategic locations both Italy and Azerbaijan. On the other hand, Italian companies can be also actively involved in development of non-oil sector of economy of Azerbaijan. Forms of cooperation may include 100% FDI, joint ventures, sub-contracting, license agreements, franchising. Cooperation on equity and non-equity basis taking into consideration experience of Italy in developing of small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) could be right direction for expansion of bilateral economic relations. Cooperation with such economically advanced country as Italy would help Azerbaijan to increase further its competitiveness. Besides technical assistance, cooperation with developed market economies will allow Azerbaijan to attract more FDI, portfolio investment, technology and know-how and gradually increase competiveness of its economy. In the construction sector, proper risk management may contribute effectively to improving decision-making processes. Principals and operators (businesses and professionals) may derive benefits from reducing environmental variability and uncertainty, limiting costs due to errors and the improper use of resources and significantly improving the quality of information streams. The article illustrates the results of two studies, the first conducted in the United Arab Emirates and the second carried out in Italy, with a similar methodological approach and objectives: verifying the nature of the main risks in construction, identifying to which party (owner or contractor) responsibility for such risks is assigned in practice, representing the circumstances in which responsibility is to be considered shared and emphasising the risks with the greatest probability of occurrence. The only collection of commedia dell'arte scenarios to have been published in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries is that of the actor-manager Flaminio Scala, in 1611. This can serve, among other things, as a primary source of information about the style of acting in commedia dell'arte performance in its golden age, from 1570 to 1630. While English drama of the same period provides us, in the main, with only the words the actors were to have spoken, the Scala collection rarely provides us with these, but rather, with a wealth of descriptions of actions and emotions. These descriptions enable us to make inferences about the style in which they were acted – that is, about the particular way in which the stories the actors presented were said, performed, or expressed. Giunta A., Nifo A. et Scalera D. Subcontracting in Italian industry: labour division, firm growth and the North–South divide, Regional Studies. The aim of this paper is to investigate the impact of subcontracting on Italian manufacturing firms' growth in the second half of the 1990s. The main results are: (1) producing as subcontractors does not penalize firms but can be a positive determinant of growth, especially when coupled with the propensity to innovate; (2) since a non-linear relationship between growth and subcontracting emerges, an organizational mode not fully specialized in either subcontracting activity or direct sales may be optimal; and (3) the deep dualism of the Italian industrial structure is confirmed, as Southern subcontractors show poorer performances and slower growth. La sous-traitance dans l'industrie italienne: la division du travail, la croissance des entreprises et le clivage Nord-Sud, Regional Studies. Cet article cherche à examiner l'impact de la sous-traitance sur la croissance des entreprises industrielles italiennes pendant la deuxième moitié des années 90. Les principaux résultats sont les suivants: (1) produire en tant que sous-traitant ne pénalise pas les entreprises mais peut s'avérer un déterminant positif de la croissance, notamment quand on y associe la propensité à innover; (2) étant donné qu'il en ressort un rapport non-linéaire entre la croissance et la sous-traitance, il se peut qu'un mode organisationnel qui ne se spécialise à fond, ni en la sous-traitance, ni en les ventes directes, soit optimal; et (3) le dualisme profond de la structure industrielle italienne se voit confirmer, vu que les sous-traitants du Sud font preuve d'une performance faible et d'un taux de croissance plus lent. Treatment burden is a multidimensional concept, including several aspects of life of patients affected by chronic conditions. It has been poorly explored in people living with HIV (PLHIV). An online anonymous survey of PLHIV taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) was conducted, in order to investigate the self-reported correlates of disease burden. HIV Treatment and Diseases Burden (TDB) was investigated with a questionnaire containing 31 items in 7 domains. Respondents were stratified in high burden (H-TDB)/low burden (L-TDB) according to overall HIV TDB mean + 1 standard deviation. Factors associated with H-TDB has been evaluated with a logistic regression model. In total, 531 PLHIV completed the questionnaire. 99 PLHIV had a H-TDB (18.6%). PLHIV with H-TDB were younger (p < 0.001), less frequently on current two drug antiretroviral (ARV) regimens (p = 0.01) and more frequently with plasma HIV-RNA >50 copies/mL (p = 0.04). At multivariable regression analysis, younger age (aOR 1.43, 95%CI 1.14–1.80; p = 0.002), not fully treatment satisfaction (aOR 2.19, 95%CI 1.28–3.74; p = 0.004), the need of a more accurate dialogue with treating physician (aOR 2.29, 95%CI 1.21–4.36, p = 0.01) and a self-declared lower overall Health Status (aOR 1.75, 95%CI 1.33–2.32; p = 0.002) were all associated with a H-TDB. One out of five PLHIV showed a high level of treatment and disease burden. Younger age, not fully satisfaction with ART and need of interaction with a tailored health system should be taken into consideration as correlates of treatment and disease burden in a patient-centered approach, to reduce the negative impact that it can produce on the overall perceived health status of the person. Our empirical study aims at identifying the determinants of Information Technology (IT) adoption by small and medium sized Italian manufacturing firms. An ordered probit analysis is conducted on a sample of about 17 000 firms surveyed by the Italian Statistical Institute, using as a dependent variable an index of IT adoption. Our results show that firm size, geographical location, functional composition of the workforce, R&D activity, subcontracting, exports and collaboration between firms are all highly significant determinants of IT adoption. The article examines routes toward industrial supplier and production network internationalisation, which may also be considered to be a form of outsourcing. Routes towards internationalisation include traditional subcontracting, coordinated subcontracting, and supply system relocation. Variables include the technological knowledge that needs to be transferred to the foreign operation, and the nature of the customer-supplier interaction context. The methodology includes case studies of eleven Italian footwear and apparel companies that each relocated one or more business segments to Romania. Data were gathered from company visits and interviews. The internationalisation process model created by Jan Johanson and Jan-Erik Vahlne is cited, and conclusions presented.

The 1990s witnessed the spread and broadening in Europe of different types of relationships between public administration and private organisations (both for-profit and non-profit), derived from the two main categories of contracting out and accreditation. These models, linked to the process of developing new modes of governance, also focus on forms of contracting between providers and users of services. This contractual configuration of local welfare systems appears to encourage `civil society' and recipients to play a more active role in designing interventions and putting them into practice. Nonetheless, several questions still remain to be answered, mainly concerning the different position adopted by the beneficiaries in the case of intervention theoretically aimed at ensuring or increasing their `freedom of choice'. This article sets out to analyse these questions with specific reference to the implementation of the Italian legal reform of social services. The field of observation covers interventions based on economic benefits looking to promote recipients' independence. Our intention is to focus on whether and how the present structures incorporate and elaborate this impulse towards change, with particular reference to the new configuration of the users' own position. The article focuses on the life and works of Anna Magnani, an Academy Award-winning Italian stage and film actress. She was regarded as a unique figure in Italian cinema, as well as in international cinema, for her series of realistic and unglamourized roles. She had made fifty films, in which her portrayal had been crticized and studied, and she was known for her roles in "Roma citta aperta," "The Rose Tattoo" and the "Mamma Roma." Moreover, she died at the age of 65 from cancer of the pancreas on September 26, 1973.

The purpose of the study was to determine the decrease in pachymetry of very thin corneas with advanced keratoconus due to corneal compaction from the ultraviolet-A (UV-A) irradiation phase of transepithelial (epi-on) cross-linking. Twenty removed corneal buttons were obtained from patients who underwent penetrating keratoplasty for advanced keratoconus. Removed corneal buttons selected from among the post-surgical specimens for this study had intact epithelium, no scarring or surgical cautery, endothelial cell density >2500 cells/mm2, and average pachymetry over the measured points of below 400 μm. Corneas were mounted in a Franz chamber. Each epithelial surface was soaked in isotonic riboflavin and D-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (Ribocross® IROMED Group, Italy) for 15 min. Pachymetry was measured at three points over both the shielded and unshielded corneal halves for each corneal button. Surfaces were then washed in saline to remove the Ribocross®. Shields from UV-A irradiation over half of each cornea were then fixed to stand 5 mm above the test corneas. UV-A irradiation using the custom fast cross-linking (CF-CXL) protocol was then performed for the typical 10 ± 1.5 min, for a total energy of 1.08 ± 0.6 J/cm2 after which pachymetry was re-measured. The average percent change in pachymetry was −0.43% ± 0.38% (maximum −1.06%) in the shielded half. Pachymetry change was −6.2% ± 2.2% (maximum 12%) in the cross-linked halves. In conclusion, we estimate that the change in corneal thickness from corneal compaction due to the cross-linking reaction itself was −5.8% ± 2.2%. Objectives: To identify the variables that are associated with persistence to Aripiprazole-Long Acting (A-LAI), in adult patients with schizophrenia., Methods: Observational, retrospective, non-interventional study involving 261 patients with schizophrenia., Results: Eighty-six percent of study subjects were persistent for at least 6 months. All subjects with baseline CGI-S of 1 or 2, 95% of subjects with CGI-S of 3, 86% with CGI-S of 4, 82% of subjects with CGI-S of 5, 73% of subjects with CGI of 6 and 90% of subjects with CGI of 7 were persistent. A-LAI treatment continuation rate was higher in patients with: 1) baseline CGI score ≤ 4; 2) schizophrenia dimension (LDPS) mania score ≤ 5; 3) psychotic spectrum schizoid score ≤ 11., Conclusions: A relatively high number of patients (n = 225, 86%) were persistent to A-LAI for at least 6 months. Not surprisingly, very severe patients were more unlikely to be persistent. However, it is noteworthy that a large number of subjects with high CGI score at the time when A-LAI was started (82% of subjects with CGI-S of 5, 73% of subjects with CGI of 6 and 90% of subjects with CGI of 7) were persistent.
