Background: Research on neurocognitive disorders and cognitive reserve in psychiatric rehabilitation patients is crucial to understanding how cognitive function impacts rehabilitation outcomes. Cognitive reserve refers to the brain's resilience to neuropathological damage, and exploring its role in psychiatric patients can provide insights into their varying responses to treatment and recovery potential. Investigating whether there are differences in cognitive reserve and neurocognitive disorders between offenders and non-offenders within psychiatric rehabilitation can help tailor interventions and improve rehabilitation strategies. This study explores cognitive reserve (CR) and neurocognitive disorders (NCDs) in a sample of psychiatric patients within a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center, with a particular focus on differences between offenders and non-offenders following the closure of Judicial Psychiatric Hospitals in Italy (March 31, 2015)., Method: In our observational study, were recruited a total of 59 patients (20 females and 39 males, mean age = 45.39 years) from various Psychiatric Rehabilitation Communities in Southern Italy. The patients were assessed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5 CV) and a battery of tests, including in particular the Cognitive Reserve Index Questionnaire (CRIq), Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), Aberrant Salience Inventory (ASI) and the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0)., Results: Results indicated significant differences between offenders and non-offenders in cognitive reserve, psychopathological symptoms and personal and social functionality., Conclusion: Understanding these distinctions is important for developing specialized therapeutic approaches that address the rehabilitation needs of each group that also include neurocognitive aspects such as cognitive reserve.

Background: Emotional dysregulation is a common feature across various psychiatric disorders, including personality disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and schizophrenia. It manifests through difficulties in emotion modulation, which can lead to impulsive behaviors, exaggerated emotional reactions, and poor management of negative emotions. Cognitive deficits, particularly those related to executive functions such as inhibition, working memory, and cognitive flexibility, play a crucial role in this process, contributing to a higher vulnerability to emotional dysregulation. This paper focuses on the role cognitive deficits may have in emotional dysregulation. The sample will include both psychiatric patients and offenders undergoing therapeutic rehabilitation in community settings., Method: In our observational study, fifty-nine psychiatric inpatients (total mean age: 45.3910.93), distributed by age, gender, and legal provision (offenders and non-offenders) were recruited in several psychiatric rehabilitation centers located in South Italy. We used Aberrant Salience Inventory (ASI), Barrat Impulsiveness Scale Version 11 (BIS-11), Historical-Clinical-Risk Management-20, Version 3 (HCR-20 V3 ), Brief Psychiatric Research Symptoms (BPRS), Verbal fluency tests (VFT) Estimated IQ Short Intelligence Test (T.I.B.), World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0. (WHODAS 2.0)., Results: The results highlighted higher impulsivity levels in offenders associated with higher scores on the cognitive performance scales., Conclusion: Cognitive deficits are a significant contributor to emotional dysregulation in psychiatric patients, particularly in offender psychiatric patients.

The COVID-19 epidemic has been a major global public health problem during past months in Italy and in several other Countries and on the date of publication of this article, is still a serious public health problem. The health staff, engaged in the care of the sick and in the prevention of the spread of the infection have been subjected to a further increase in psychological difficulties and work-related stress, related to the workload for the continuous influx of sick and intense and close working shifts for the viral emergency. The SAVE-9 (Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics - 9 items) scale has been developed as a tool for assessing work anxiety and stress in response to the viral epidemic of health professionals working to prevent the spread of the virus and to treat infected people.

The prejudices about mental illness and the related social stigma are still present in the population. People suffer from both the disease and the marginalization behaviors implemented by the "so-called healthy" towards them and their relatives. Even psychiatric professionals can get sick and suffer for the same reason. The authors of this multicentric study have focused their attention on the presence or absence of groups of psychiatric pathologies among the "insiders". The most frequent pathologies encountered were the mood and anxiety disorders, in a percentage similar to that of the general population. To continue the research on the stigma begun in a previous study, the authors asked themselves if there could be prejudices and/or stigma among psychiatric professionals towards sick colleagues, how they relate in the workplace and how they react to the behavior of colleagues. The stigma questionnaire has been used on psychiatric professionals, and 130 Italian colleagues were tested in the provinces of Avellino, Brindisi and Trento. The data were compared with those of the research on the stigma "Thinking of Psychiatric Disorders as" Normal "Illness" (Tavormina et al. 2016) and it emerged that among the attending professionals there are no statistically significant behaviors of marginalization, exclusion or stigma against sick colleagues, even if there is a certain discomfort in working together. Above all, it emerged that 80% of the interviewees, who have had work experience with sick colleagues, have replied that the latter can treat those who are also sick of their own disease, thus showing esteem and confidence in their work, in analogy with the Jungian thesis of the "wounded Healer" in the myth of the centaur Chiron.

Introduction and Objective: Many devices have been marketed in order to improve the organoleptic characteristics of tap water resulting from disinfection with chlorine derivates. The aim of the presented study was to assess the degree of contamination by non-fermenting Gram-negative bacteria (NF-GNB) of drinking water dispensed from microfiltration devices at point-of-use., Methods: Water samples were collected from 94 point-of-use water devices fitted with a filter (0.5 μm pore size) containing powdered activated carbon. The microbiological contamination of water entering and leaving the microfiltered water dispensers was compared. The NF-GNB loads were correlated to Total Heterotrophic Counts (HPCs) at 37 and 22 °C, residua chlorine, and some structural and functional features of the devices., Results: NF-GNB were detected from 23% of supply water samples, 33% of still unchilled water, 33% of still chilled water and 18% of carbonated chilled water. The most frequent isolates were Pseudomonadaceae: Steno.maltophilia 30.2% of isolates, Pseudomonas 20.5%, Delftia acidovorans 13.4%, while the species more largely distributed was Ps. aeruginosa recovered from 13% of samples. The distribution of the various NF-GNB was different in the water entering and in that leaving the devices. Ps.aeruginosa and Steno.maltophilia were the predominant species in water leaving the microfiltration dispensers, probably due to their capacity to colonize the circuits and to prevail over the others. Recovery of NF-GNB was favoured by the reduction in residual chlorine of the supply water, occasional use, the absence of a bacteriostatic element in the filter and inadequate disinfection of the water lines., Conclusions: The presence of high concentrations of potentially pathogenic species of NF-GNB (Ps.aeruginosa, Steno. maltophilia, Burkhol.cepacia) in the water dispensed from microfiltration devices represents a risk of waterborne infections for vulnerable individuals. When these devices are used in environments such as hospitals, nursing homes for the elderly, etc., microbiological monitoring for the detection of NF-GNB is advisable.
