Processes of discursive construction in a British and an Italian personnel management magazine are analysed to show the ways in which the magazines, both as genre forms and providers of narratives and discursive resources, provide 'story boards' for their readers which are helpful to them when it comes to making sense of the tensions and dilemmas associated with their managerial roles. Tensions and occupational dilemmas generally associated with personnel management work are identified and variations found in the discursive constructions associated with the two magazines are related, with reservations, to cultural and institutional differences between British and Italian human resource management. Background: Horizontal violence, defined in the literature as 'interpersonal conflict between two nurses at the same hierarchical levels in organizations', often associated with bullying, affects the well-being of nurses, care recipients and the professional image of nursing and the organization due to increased turnover. One in every three newly graduated nurses is a victim of horizontal violence, although they do not always know how to define it., Aim: To investigate the direct and indirect experiences of horizontal violence in newly graduated nurses as well as to shed light on the phenomenon, on its awareness and recognition., Methods: A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted between September and October 2018 with newly graduated nurses, with a work experience ranging between 6 months and 3 years. The interviews were conducted face-to-face, consisting of a first open general question, followed by semi-structured questions., Ethical Considerations: The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, and the protocol was approved by the Institution Review Board., Results: From the analysis of the interviews of the 21 participants, four main themes were identified: the 'enemies', that is those who exercised violence, the 'weapons' used by them to exercise violence, the 'effects' and the types of 'armor' identified to protect themselves., Discussion: Horizontal violence is rarely recognized by newly graduated nurses, even though our sample had directly or indirectly experienced horizontal violence. Tackling the phenomenon starting from the undergraduate degree courses, focusing on effective support and more protection by the organization leaders were the silent requests that emerged from this study., Conclusion: Preventing horizontal violence is important for nurses' professional and private well-being, for professional conduct and for the quality of care provided to patients.

Objective: To provide a detailed analysis and interpretation of cranial and postcranial lesions noted on an early medieval skeleton from the Italian Alps., Materials: Individual (SK63) was buried within the early Christian church (5 th -8 th centuries AD) of Säben-Sabiona in South Tyrol (Italy)., Methods: The skeleton underwent macroscopic, microscopic and metric analyses., Results: SK63 was a 19-25 year old male, the analysis identified at least 29 lesions, consisting of three possible antemortem injuries and 26 perimortem sharp force injuries on the cranium (n = 4) and postcranium (n = 22)., Conclusions: The trauma pattern observed indicates that different bladed weapons were used and interpersonal violence rather than a large-scale conflict led to the death of SK63., Significance: The present findings provide novel information on violent interpersonal interactions in early medieval Säben-Sabiona, Italy., Limitations: The sequence of the inflicted injuries was not reconstructed., Suggestions for Further Research: Future interdisciplinary investigations (i.e., 3D imaging and reconstructions) will provide a better understanding of the possible types of weapons used to inflict injuries, the required forces to create the lesions, as well as the directions of impact., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc. Plans for a 10-day workshop at an isolated site in Italy for 12 Greek and 12 Turkish Cypriotes were abandoned in July 1974 because of a successful coup against the government of Archbishop Makarios and the arrival of a Turkish army in Cyprus. The participants were to be guided through exercises hopefully leading to mutual trust and understanding; then they would attempt to find (a) creative ideas to be communicated to their leaders who had been negotiating for six years and (b) new ways to build associations between the two communities.[sup 1] Since private, unofficial organizations have had little experience in applying social science to serious, destructive social conflicts, it may be useful to record briefly the additional information derived from revisiting Cyprus during June, 1975, in order to determine whether some kind of intervention had then become feasible and useful.[sup 2] Informal interviews--really conversations--were conducted with a few important leaders, with many of those who were to attend the original workshop, and with other Cypriot acquaintances.
