In order to evaluate the impact of photovoltaic (PV) yield forecasting on future power system operations in Japan, we adapted the day ahead Unit Commitment (UC) model which can consider the PV yield forecasting and the forecast errors as confidence intervals and real time Economic Dispatch Control model using actual PV yield. Our results demonstrated the Japanese power system operation in 2030 when high PV penetration was expected. In the daytime, PV yield was abundant and stored by pumping operation of pumped storage generators. Pumping and generation of pumped storage generators coexisted in the daytime to satisfy the secondary reserve requirement. We also verified that to consider the CI in the day ahead UC is useful to decrease the amount of unserved energy in real time economic dispatch control. As the CI widens, reliability of power systems operation increase. However, there was the power shortage still occurred even in the widest CI case. The minimum cost was occurred when the day ahead UC was used with 90% CI and the fuel cost of peak load plants to compensate the unserved energy was average residential electricity price in Japan.
