Abstract

A recent study conducted at Changzhou University in Jiangsu, China, has explored the production of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfurylamine (HMFA) using a hybrid catalysis approach. HMFA is a valuable chemical intermediate used in drug synthesis and epoxy resin curing. The researchers achieved a yield of 72.1% of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from D-fructose through dehydration in betaine-formic acid. They then used a mutant transaminase biocatalyst to convert HMF into HMFA with a yield of 97.7%. This research provides a sustainable and efficient method for the chemoenzymatic catalysis of D-fructose for HMFA production. [Extracted from the article]
