The article presents the results of a study of the plant communities of Ramonda serbica, primarily intended to increase knowledge of their species and syntaxonomic diversity. The dataset included 204 vegetation plots (relevés) of the two Balkan Ramondas (R. serbica and R. nathaliae), 174 digitised from published literature sources and 30 new ones from field sampling of R. serbica in Montenegro and North Macedonia. Nineteen associations and subassociations of R. serbica were identified, using hierarchical cluster analysis (the Sørensen index as a distance measure and the Flexible Beta method, ß −0.25). Three associations (Micromerio julianae-Ramondetum serbicae, Hylocomio splendentis-Ramondetum serbicae, Neckero pumillae-Ramondetum serbicae), three subassociations (Micromerio julianae-Ramondetum serbicae subass. allosoretosum persicae, Ceterachi officinarum-Ramondetum serbicae subass. festucetosum dalmaticae and subass. hylotelephietosum maximi) and one alliance Exsertotheco crispae-Ramondion serbicae are described as new. Both hierarchical cluster analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling ordination support the distinction of 3 chorological/ecological groups of R. serbica communities: Adriatic-Ionian (xerophilous), Moesian (xero and mesophilous communities) and Illyrian-Scardo-Pindic (hygromesophilous). Communities of the Adriatic-Ionian cluster belongs to alliances Edraianthion, Centaureo cuspidatae-Portenschagillion ramosissimae and Campanulion versicoloris, of the Moesian one to Edraiantho graminifolii-Erysimion comati, and the Illyrian-Scardo-Pindic one to novel alliance Exsertotheco crispae-Ramondion serbicae. This paper deals with relationships between vegetation of Macedonian pine (Pinus peuce) and soils developed on different parent materials on the territory of North Macedonia. We analysed the floristic composition at localities on limestone, on scree of dolomite marble and on scree of silicate. On limestone and scree of dolomite marble, rendzinas on hard limestone and dolomite have developed, and on silicate parent material brown forest soils. The vegetation was sampled according to the Braun-Blanquet approach. DCA and indicator values were used for ecological interpretation of the vegetation patterns. The mechanical and chemical properties of soil and textural classes were also processed. An evident increased presence of carbonates in the soil of scree of dolomite marble on Nidže Mountain was observed, unlike that on Shar Mountain which has formed on typical limestone. Although it is a forest community dominated by the same species, differences between the massifs, the precipitation regime, geology, differences in soil properties in relation to the appearance of carbonates and pH values, and other factors, result in differences in their floristic composition and are the reason for the distinction between the two groups. On silicate on Nidže Mountain, Macedonian pine forests have also developed on brown forest soils, with a different floristic composition to that of the other group on carbonate (dolomite and limestone). The horological data for two new plant species of the flora of the Republic of Macedonia are presented - Anisantha diandra (Roth) Tutin and Ochlopoa infirma (Kunth) H. Scholz (Poaceae). The species Anisantha diandra is registered in several localities in the Republic of Macedonia (Skopje, Ohrid, Tetovo), while the species Ochlopoa infirma was found only in the vicinity of Bogdanci. A short description is given of the differential morphological characteristics of both species, as well as the habitats to which they are registered. The heterogeneity of the ultramafic vegetation of the Central Balkans is rather great. Although this vegetation has been continuously investigated, some gaps are still to be filled. For example, the lack of available data on ultramafic vegetation of the Republic of Macedonia is evident. In that light, we have investigated different relic Stipa species-dominated dry grasslands over ultramafic bedrock. Twenty relevés were made and compared to the similar vegetation types (i.e. Potentilla visianii, Centaureo kosaninii-Bromion fibrosi, "Thymion jankae", Saturejo-Thymion and Alyssion heldreichii) by means of numerical analyses. We distinguished one new association and one informal community, providing them with diagnosis and lists of diagnostic, constant and dominant species. Climatic gradients can be used to predict the extent to which climate drives biodiversity and to which biodiversity may be affected by global climate changes. Climate and evolutionary history are linked by the ecological adaptations of species and the history of Earth's climate. If so, phylogenetic diversity may be a good metric to estimate biodiversity. We aimed to test whether the phylogenetic diversity of Macedonian dry grasslands was related to climatic variables. We sampled 575 plots, identifying the species and building a phylogenetic tree for them. We calculated two metrics of phylogenetic diversity and regressed them against climatic variables. We also tested whether there were nodes in the tree responsible for the main observed spatial patterns of phylogenetic diversity. We found a strong signature of evolutionary history in species sorting across a gradient driven by climate in Macedonian dry grasslands. First, the amount of evolutionary history decreased towards drier and more seasonal climates, suggesting a phylogenetic niche conservatism. Second, there was an air temperature filter and a temperature seasonality filter, acting in opposite directions and leading to phylogenetic clustering. Third, there were few nodes in the phylogenetic tree with high degrees of allopatry, associated with clades that differed not only in their geographic distribution, but also in their climatic preferences. Macedonian dry grassland communities developed over centuries of traditional land use but are threatened nowadays by human activities.
