The level of defence industrial innovation success has been modest in Malaysia, despite continuous investment into research and development (R&D). The authors use the Defence Research and Development Stakeholder Engagement Framework (DRDSEF) to argue that strategic collaborative engagement between stakeholders is critical for successful industrial and technological innovation. This paper has two aims: to describe the role of the stakeholders in managing defence R&D funding and to evaluate the challenges faced by these stakeholders in managing government defence R&D allocation for industrial and technological innovation. This is an exploratory case study using a combination of interpretivist and pragmatist philosophical approaches. Analysed data consists of secondary resources and primary resources included surveys in the form of open-ended semi-structured interviews and participatory observation. This paper concludes that successful defence R&D stakeholder engagement requires an open and independent platform, enhanced industry-academia cross-sector fertilisation and collaborative data analytics management tools to share information. Research Aims: This study tests the effects of different stakeholder power (shareholders, employees, customers, business partners, community, government, NGOs, and media) on sustainability disclosure using stakeholder salience theory. Extending from this perspective, this study makes separate assumptions for each stakeholder and determines which one had the most power over sustainability disclosure. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study adopts a journalism (i.e., news framing) approach and observes the element of power in sustainability disclosure using content analysis. The sample comprises of panel data of 140 listed firms in the construction and property sector in Malaysia. Research Findings: The results show that the employees, community and media power are positively related to sustainability disclosure. This study improves our understanding of the factors determining firms' disclosure by demonstrating that market stakeholders (shareholders, employees, customers and business partners) are not perceived as necessary by managers concerning sustainability disclosure. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: Common studies view all stakeholders to be taken homogenously into consideration in business decision making. Few studies focus on the power of stakeholders in influencing disclosure is lacking. Managerial Implication in the South East Asian Context: This study gives insight on which stakeholder is the most important in rank and the finding informs managers to draft a stakeholder management plan and budget, given that such activities can increase firm value. Research Limitation & Implications: This research however did not investigate the dynamics of stakeholder power along with the existence of other salience factors, i.e., the legitimacy and urgency factors. Background: Precision medicine beckons new horizons for therapy geared to one's genetics, lifestyle, and environmental determinants. Molecular, pathology, and clinical diagnostics can be integrated to provide pharmaceutical care. Aims: The value and appeal of precision medicine to community pharmacists, knowledge attained, and training programmes perceived as necessary were evaluated. Methods: Over 10 months, a published questionnaire, which was also digitally accessible during the COVID-19 outbreak, was distributed by hand, via email and social media. 300 community pharmacists across 9 districts in an urban state in Malaysia, self-administered and returned completed versions (response rate 75%). Three-or five-point Likert scale and multiple-choice responses were analysed using SPSS to assess whether or not exposure through the pharmacy curricula impacted current knowledge, perception and willingness to pursue precision medicine. Results: Respondents were largely: females (N = 196, 65.3%) and practicing for up to 10 years (N = 190, 66.3%). Although knowledge levels were moderate (76%), positive perceptions were showcased (94%), and 80% were willing to integrate precision medicine into their daily practice. Although 61% did not or do not recall having had prior exposure to pharmacogenomics as part of their pharmacy school curricula, many (93%) were willing to attain knowledge by undergoing additional training. Desired training included current pharmacogenetic testing available (17%), interpretation of the test results (15%), and ethical considerations (13%). Community pharmacists who had 0.5-10 years' work experience possessed greater knowledge (µ = 1.48, CI 1.35-1.61, p = 0.017), than the pharmacists who had 21-40 years of work experience (µ = 1.28, CI 1.05-1.51, p = 0.021). Exposure to the subject during pharmacy education positively impacted the willingness to integrate precision medicine in daily practice (p = 0.035). Conclusion: Community pharmacists were receptive to and valued precision medicine. A relatively high number had prior exposure to concepts of precision medicine through the pharmacy curriculum, and were therefore willing to adopt the practice in their day-to-day provision of healthcare. With adequate training centred on bioethics, utilising pharmacogenetic testing, and interpretation of the results, community pharmacists will be equipped for the provision of precision medicine services in the foreseeable future. This study looks at the perspectives of business events industry representatives with regard to factors and challenges in promoting leisure revisit intention among business tourists. Judgmental sampling was used to recruit 10 senior executives from the Malaysian business events industry. This study gauged the role of the Malaysian business events industry in transitioning business tourists into leisure tourists. The findings reveal that the people of Malaysia, nature and heritage, food and accommodation, shopping and nightlife can positively influence the leisure revisit intentions of business tourists. However, the efforts to convert business tourists into future leisure tourists is hindered by a silo approach towards destination marketing by the Malaysian business events industry representatives. Safety culture is a critical determinant of organisational performance, particularly in high-risk industries especially in oil and gas. Understanding stakeholder preferences is essential for developing effective strategies that enhance safety culture. This study utilised the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to prioritise stakeholder preferences, identifying key elements of safety culture in Malaysia's oil and gas sector. This study employed a structured methodology to evaluate safety culture within the oil and gas industry, focusing on 18 sub-elements across three key domains: psychological, behavioural, and situational factors. A diverse sample of industry experts was recruited using purposeful and snowball sampling to ensure a comprehensive representation of stakeholder views. The AHP framework was applied to analyse the data, utilizing structured questionnaires and multicriteria decision-making techniques to prioritize the identified safety culture elements. The AHP analysis identified distinct priorities among different professional groups within the oil and gas sector. Safety and Health Practitioners emphasized practical elements such as safety rules and management commitment, while academicians prioritized knowledge and training. Management personnel highlighted the importance of safety ownership and communication, whereas policymakers focused on broader, policy-oriented aspects. The findings suggest that safety culture improvement initiatives should be tailored to address the specific needs and priorities of each professional group. A nuanced understanding of stakeholder preferences is crucial for developing comprehensive strategies that integrate observable behaviours, situational conditions, and psychological factors, ultimately fostering a robust safety culture in the oil and gas industry., (© 2024. Located in one of the famous natural and cultural tourist destinations of northern Malaysia, Penang Hill serves as an ideal destination for both local and international tourists. The objective of this study was to understand and explore key stakeholders perspectives to enhance management for the aim of conservation, economic development, and recreation in Penang Hill. Data was collected from three key stakeholders of Penang Hill using semi-structured in-depth interviews. Stakeholders showed robust interests in environmental protection, cultural conservation, economic activities, awareness, and empowerment. This paper concludes by stating that Penang Hill is under strong management, and stakeholders are continuously engaged in the destination. The management authority collaborates with the key stakeholders of Penang Hill and incorporates their interests and viewpoint to ensure the ecotourism process goes smoothly and Penang Hill becomes one of the top ecotourism destinations. Digital networks have been the most significant players in the global sharing economy, turning big corporations like Airbnb, Booking or TripAdvisor into intermediaries handling and profiting from most business transactions. Focused on homestay businesses, this paper conceptualizes the sharing economy of the wider collaborative economy for sustainable homestay business development. This study is of an exploratory in nature. The methodological approach stakeholder inquiry was conducted consisted of three groups: (1) Registered Homestay Operators (2) Unregistered Homestay Operators and (3) Officer of Government Authorities to elicit stakeholders' views on the homestay businesses. The result demonstrates that huge expectations have been put on the sharing economy to deliver new business model focused on peer-to - peer (P2P) exchanges of under-utilized properties. Homestay collaborative economy was supposed to be a model making major contributions to sustainability, creating new opportunities for entrepreneurship, more sustainable resource use, and stakeholder collaboration in strong economic networks. Hence, this study includes some suggestions for enhancing the current Homestay Business Guidelines for authorities, in particular The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and local authorities that issue homestay business licenses. The findings of this study can therefore contribute to the importance of homestay business sharing economy via collaborative economy model among homestay stakeholders that gives energy practice the longevity of traditional homestay business model in an effort to better serve the customer from competition to network collaboration. Abstract Coastal defence structures have a strong influence on the configuration of shorelines. Artificial structures can influence the wave regime, hydrodynamic circulation and sediment transport, thus reducing the ability of a shoreline to respond to natural forcing factors (such as the monsoonal regime) which also fragment the coastal space. In the studied area on the Kuala Terengganu coast of Malaysia, a new 1-km airport runway extension was constructed with a tarmac structure jutting out into the sea. This extension structure has a groyne-shaped geometry that has consequently altered the shoreline, hydrodynamics and sediment transport patterns on the adjoining coast. This recently transformed environment is investigated using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) and Mike programs. The objective of this article is to describe the various coastal morphodynamic situations, as well as discuss the sustainable erosion mitigation strategies that are available, by involving local stakeholders within the coastal management system itself. The lessons learnt from previous management failures show that addressing the concerns, views and opinions of local stakeholders is pivotal, and must be taken into consideration by consulting them during the early stages of the planning process and beyond. The study then sets out a proposed solution to the issues at stake, based on a combination of detached breakwaters and beach nourishments within the critically eroded areas. There is indeed a direct need for more coastal defence structures in the studied area due to the ever-increasing coastal erosion, especially in the northern sector. In fact, although a series of revetments/ripraps have been built in the past to protect the beaches from erosion, these artificial structures have proved to be quite ineffective in mitigating the erosion problem at the sites in question. Construction projects are unique and face many different types of risks even though every business endeavor is known to contain risks, construction related risks are unique. There are two major categories of risks faced by any construction project; they include internal and external environment risk. This study was carried out to identify the construction environment risks facing construction projects. A questionnaire survey was conducted where 70 questionnaires were sent out and only 24 were of them were returned, yielding a response rate of 60%. However, questionnaires were for non-compliance and 31 were analyzed. This paper was attempted to identify the environment related risk in the construction projects, and rank the environment risks according to their significance in relation to project objectives. In addition, it intended to measure the use of risk management in construction companies. A questionnaire survey was carried out to get the opinions of stakeholders with regards to ranking of factors, and use of risk management. As results, it was found that there were 10 construction environment risks, and the three most ranked significant factors according to the analyzed results were 'variation by client', 'tight schedules' and 'lack of enough trained professional managers'. In measuring the use of risk management, 61.3% of construction companies surveyed were found to apply risk management and this helped them in improving their business profits while those who did not apply risk management had lower profits. This article described the level of hotel participation in environmental management practices (EMPs) in Malaysia. It aimed to identify the level of stakeholder influence on EMP participation and whether EMPs contribute to overall hotel performance. To achieve these objectives, stakeholder theory was selected as the theoretical basis to explicate the proposed hypotheses. Despite wide recognition of the multiple ecosystem services provided by mangroves, they continue to experience decline and degradation especially in the face of urbanization. Given the interplay between multiple resources and stakeholders in the fate of mangroves, mangrove management can be framed as a nexus challenge and nexus thinking used to identify potential solutions. Using the Klang Islands, Malaysia, as a case study site, this paper characterizes the mangrove nexus and stakeholders' visions for the future to identify potential options for future management. Through a series of stakeholder workshops and focus group discussions conducted over two years, results show that local communities can identify benefits from mangroves beyond the provisioning of goods and significant impacts to their lives from mangrove loss. While better protected and managed mangroves remained a central part of participants' visions for the islands, participants foresaw a limited future for fishing around the islands, preferring instead alternative livelihood opportunities such as eco-tourism. The network of influencers of the Klang Islands' mangroves extends far beyond the local communities and many of these actors were part of the visions put forward. Stakeholders with a high interest in the mangroves typically have a low influence over their management and many high influence stakeholders (e.g. private sector actors) were missing from the engagement. Future nexus action should focus on integrating stakeholders and include deliberate and concerted engagement with high influence stakeholders while at the same time ensuring a platform for high interest/low influence groups. Fortifying existing plans to include mangroves more explicitly will also be essential. Lessons learnt from this study are highly relevant for coastal mangrove systems elsewhere in the Southeast Asian region.
