Purpose: Congruent with the world-wide call to combat global warming concerns and advance intellectual capital (IC), organisations are being pressured to ensure that IC is managed effectively to encourage green initiatives. In this regard, green entrepreneurial orientation (GEO) is emerged as a relevant IC. GEO is recognised as a mitigating factor of environmental degradation in the literature. Although prior literature has observed the nexus between GEO and firm performance, the role of GEO in leveraging sustainable performance has been limitedly explored. This study explored the relationship between IC as a GEO and enterprises' sustainable performance through the moderating roles of environmental consciousness and green technology dynamism (GTD) in the context of two developing countries (Pakistan and Malaysia). Design/methodology/approach: Data provided by 296 respondents from 264 manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan and Malaysia were analysed through a three-wave research design. AMOS 23 software was used to perform covariance-based structural equation modelling (CB-SEM), while hierarchical regression analysis was applied using the SPSS 25 software to examine the causal relationships in the model. Findings: IC as a GEO significantly influences sustainable performance, akin to environmental consciousness and GTD. Besides, GTD has a significant moderating effect between GEO and financial and environmental performance in Pakistan and Malaysia but not between GEO and social performance. Environmental consciousness has a significant moderating role in the impact of GEO on financial performance in Pakistan and Malaysia, but not on social and environmental performance. Practical implications: The study's findings are useful for managers of Pakistani and Malaysian manufacturing SMEs to identify ways to encourage GEO to improve sustainable performance in their firms. The findings suggest that managers should effectively implement GTD and environmental consciousness to strengthen the GEO and sustainable performance relationship. Managers can use GEO concretely as a reference for the companies that intend to support the United Nation SDG-2030 agenda and to find new business opportunities for the implementation of sustainable development. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is the first to examine the link between GEO and sustainable performance in developing countries such as Pakistan and Malaysia. Although the influence of various intangible assets or IC on sustainable performance has been widely examined in the literature, the role of GEO as IC has been limitedly explored. This study empirically investigates the effects of sustainable manufacturing practices on sustainable performance, focusing on the moderation effect of companies' ownership (foreign or local) between sustainable manufacturing practices and sustainable performance. In this study, a survey was conducted among ISO 4001-certified manufacturers in Malaysia, and structural equation modelling was used to examine the moderating effect of a company's ownership on the relationship between sustainable manufacturing practices and sustainable performance. The findings showed that there was a positive relationship between both sustainable product design and sustainable manufacturing processes and sustainable performance for Malaysian manufacturers. However, the positive relationship between both sustainable product design and sustainable end-of-life practices on sustainable performance was stronger for foreign companies compared with that for local companies. The results showed the strengths of foreign-owned companies were at the implementation of their sustainable product design and sustainable end-of-life management practices of the product manufacturing process. The findings identified in this paper extend previous research and provide empirical evidence that a company's ownership impacts the relationship between sustainable manufacturing practices and sustainable performance. Purpose: This study aims to examine the impact of knowledge acquisition and dissemination on the sustainable performance of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Additionally, the mediating role of knowledge application in this relationship is investigated. Design/methodology/approach: Data collected from 428 manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling approach. Findings: The results reveal that knowledge acquisition significantly impacts the sustainable performance of manufacturing SMEs, and knowledge application partially mediates this impact. Cutting-edge knowledge from within or outside the organization enables a deeper understanding of information regarding new products/services, a list of competing suppliers, consumer preferences and so on. Research limitations/implications: This study combined the knowledge-based view theory and the triple bottom line framework into a unified conceptual framework and examined the impact of knowledge acquisition and dissemination on manufacturing SMEs' sustainable performance as well as the mediating role of knowledge application on manufacturing SMEs' sustainable performance. Practical implications: Manufacturing SMEs should emphasize knowledge application in business operations and encourage employees to develop and enhance their knowledge acquisition and dissemination to leverage knowledge in ways that enhance business operations, produce new products and generate new knowledge assets. Originality/value: This study is unique in that it highlights the partially mediated effects of knowledge application on the linkages between knowledge acquisition and manufacturing SMEs' sustainable performance and the fully mediated effects of knowledge application on the association between knowledge dissemination and sustainable performance of manufacturing SMEs. The growing competition within manufacturing practices has motivated organizations to upgrade their conventional production system to a smart, sophisticated systems. This study evaluates the impact of lean manufacturing practices (LMP) and industrial revolution 4.0 technologies on sustainability in the food and beverages industry. Past literature has revealed that lean practices significantly affect sustainable performance. However, the integrated effects of lean manufacturing practices and IR 4.0 technologies on sustainable performance have not been examined empirically. In order to fill the void of this gap, this study intends to have a preliminary investigation of the combined effects of LMP and IR 4.0 technologies on sustainable performance, specifically in the food and beverages industry. Furthermore, the study aims to confirm the future direction of the food industry that is recently employing new technologies in its manufacturing systems. This study is underpinned by the theories of contingency and practice-based view by highlighting the contributions of operations management practices to implement successful strategies in enhancing sustainability performance in food and beverages companies through performance variations. This study extends the current literature on IR 4.0 technologies and lean manufacturing practices as enablers of economic, environmental, and social sustainability. This study assessed green-servitization (GS) as a means of sustainable performance (SP) for publicly listed manufacturing firms in Malaysia. Manufacturing firms in recent times have faced serious challenges due to huge cost paid for environmental clean-up resulting from traditional operating system. Primary and secondary data were used for this study. Data were collected through the use of structured questionnaire. Ten (10) manufacturing companies were randomly selected, and three management staffs of the selected companies were purposely selected based on their designation to be the respondents. A simple linear regression was used to analyse the relationship between green-servitization (GS) and sustainable performance (SP). The regression result showed that the coefficient of green servitization GS is −0.040 and p = 0.247. The correlation coefficient, R = 0.218, indicates a very weak correlation between green servitization (GS) and sustainable performance (SP). The R² = 0.048 shows that the variation in SP is only accounted for by 4.8% of the GS. The F-test for the hypothesis testing showed that F = 1.400, p > 0.001, which implies that there is no positive significant relationship between green servitization (GS) and sustainable performance (SP). The implication of this research will be useful for policymakers to design suitable policies and industrial practitioners to improve their operations in terms of firms’ sustainable performance. Purpose: Microfinance institutions (MFIs) provide credit to low-income beneficiaries, enabling them to gain access to financial assistance. To ensure that clients are protected, all MFIs should adhere to basic corporate governance principles to guarantee uniform standards, transparency and good corporate governance practices in their institutions. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to explore the client protection practices and sustainable performance of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), a leading MFI in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach: Closed-ended questionnaires were distributed to managers and assistant managers at 76 AIM branches across the peninsular Malaysia. A response rate of 68 per cent was achieved from the total questionnaires distributed. Findings: The result shows that the level of client protection in AIM is high. It shows that accountability and debt collection process have a significant influence on the level of sustainable performance of AIM, whereas transparency and transaction costs have an insignificant impact on the level of sustainability of AIM. Consistent with the agency theory and institutional theory, the result also implies that having better debt collection process policy and structure, and accountability among management will enhance the level of sustainability of AIM. Originality/value: Previous studies focused on the single issue of sustainability in microfinance, such as on repayment performance among the poorest people whom AIM served as clients. However, studies on the accountability towards clients are still underdeveloped by researchers. From the past literature, the relationship between quality practices and sustainable performance has not adequately been explored. Hence, this research attempted to further investigate the impacts of other variables that may proffer better explanation to the nature of the relationship. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the mediating and moderating effect of organizational excellence and environmental regulation and policy (ERP) on the relationship between TQM (quality practices) and sustainable performance by proposing an inclusive research model comprising the antecedent factors in food and beverage industry of Malaysia. Questionnaires were distributed to 303 Malaysian food and beverages companies while 168 questionnaires were returned (response rate above 50%) and PLS-SEM was used to analyze the data in order to assess the validity and reliability of the instrument. This study serves as a validation process for the developed instruments of the research with the identified constructs of the study while the preliminary analysis and results are shown. Also, the result reveals that the instruments are reliable and the analysis indicates a strong evidence of rational validity. Similarly, it reaffirms the importance of excellence for any successful strategic implementation in enhancing sustainable performance through the implementation of quality practices. The evolution of 'sustainability' reflects a crucial change in global thinking, which is forcing firms to re-evaluate their approach in measuring organisational performance. The objectives of this study are to examine the extent of eco-innovation practices and their effects on sustainable business performance of chemical companies in Malaysia. Green innovation has currently been receiving a great deal of international attention because of the growing concern of consumers, governments, and the community as a whole with regard to the degradation of natural resources and environmental pollution. The automotive sector is one of the leading generators of industrial waste that affect the quality of the natural environment. This study aims to investigate the determinants of green innovation adoption and its effect on firm performance. Data were gathered by surveying 153 firms in the Malaysian automotive supply chain industry. Data were analyzed using the partial least squares technique. Environmental regulations, market demand, and firm internal initiatives have a positive effect on green innovation initiatives (GII), while GIIs have a positive effect on the three categories of sustainable performance (i.e., environmental, social, and economic).
