This study is focused on the laboratory processes performed by medical technologists in tertiary hospitals in Manila. The study aims to utilize FMEA as a tool in managing present risk on medical technologist activities in tertiary hospital in Manila and developed programs would prevent and mitigate the job risk. Those processes included in the blood bank section of the laboratory which are most critical among medical technology processes. The risk analysis was made using failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) since its proactive tool that prevented failure before any incident occurred. The failure modes and their corresponding causes and effects were identified and assessed using severity likelihood of occurrence and detection rating scales. The risk priority numbers (RPNs) were calculated to determine high risk processes. If there was only little difference among the RPNs, the researchers decided to give recommended actions to all failure modes in the medical technology processes. The proposed administrative solution are redesigned laboratory forms, safety signs and training. Besides, engineering solutions had been proposed such as barcoding system, digital microscopes, and digital centrifuge machines that had mistaken-proofing features. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
