The Manipur ophiolite belt within the Western Ophiolite Belt of the Indo-Myanmar Ranges (IMR), consists of tectonised to massive serpentinised peridotite, dunite pods, chromitite pods/lenses, cumulates, dykes, volcanic rocks and pelagic sediments. Chromitite pods and lenses hosted in peridotitic mantle rocks show magmatic textures, post magmatic brecciation and ferritchromitisation. Electron microprobe analyses show two types of massive chromitite, with one group having high-Cr (Cr# 75-76), medium-Al (AlO 12.2-12.4 wt%) chromites (Sirohi-type) and the other group (Gamnom-type) having a wide range of compositions with generally lower Cr and higher Al (Cr# 65-71, AlO 15.7-19 wt%). Accessory chromites in peridotitic mantle rocks have consistently low Cr (Cr# 38-39) and high Al (AlO 34-35 wt%), whereas chromites in dunite pods have intermediate compositions (Cr# ~60; AlO 20.7-21.2 wt%). The chromite chemistry suggests moderate (20 %) partial melting of the tectonised mantle harzburgite. The estimated AlO, (FeO/MgO) and TiO for the Sirohi-type chromites indicate boninitic parentage, whereas chromite compositions from the Gamnom area suggest mixed boninitic-island arc tholeiitic magmas. The development of antiretroviral therapy (ART) marks the turning point in the manage-ment of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Very high levels of adherence are prerequisite for a successful immunological response. Low adherence rates increase the risk of treatment resistance and disease progression and also the chances of further transmission of re-sistant viruses will be increased. The study was conducted in three districts of Manipur. The two stage sampling procedure was used to select a sample of 308, comprising 193 males and 115 females. The rate of adherence for males and females was 72 and 75 percent, respectively. Primary data was collected through personal interviews from par-ticipants visiting the ART centres. A semi-structured proforma was used for collection of socio-demographic and economic data related to adherence to ARV. Mafic intrusives emplaced within the mélange zone of the Manipur Ophiolitic Complex are subalkalinetholeiitic affinity with Fe-enrichment. Based on the field occurrences, textures-mineralogy and whole-rock compositions, these mafic intrusives can be identified as type-I (gabbro intrusives) and type-II (basalt-dolerite dykes). The type-I resembling enriched-type mid-ocean ridge basalt (E-MORB) shows moderate LREE enrichment (La/Sm = 2.5-2.6), slightly enriched MORB normalized HFSE patterns possibly represent melts derived from enriched MORB sub-oceanic mantle sources by small degree of partial melting. The other type-II has normal-type mid-ocean ridge basalt (N-MORB) geochemical features, as it exhibits nearly flat to depleted LREE (La/Sm = 1.0-0.6), flat MORB normalized HFSE patterns with slight LREE/HREE depletion (Ce/Yb = 1.37-0.46). It might have been derived from depleted MORB type sub-oceanic mantle source. The MORB signature displayed by these mafic intrusives indicates that they are dismembered fragments of oceanic crust generated at mid-ocean spreading ridge system and support the hypothesis that the Manipur ophiolites was initially formed in the divergent plate margin. The study attempts to find out the usage of e-resources of various publishers available under UGCINFONET by the academic community of Manipur University during 2007 and 2008. The study reveals that while there is an increase in the usage of the resources of most of the publishers in spite of certain problems of accessibility, resources of some of the publishers were underutilised. Though the study does not investigate the usage of individual journal covered by each publisher, yet an average of downloads of each publisher based upon the coverage has been worked out and presented, The study suggests that there is a need to find out usage of individual product of the publisher in view of the findings that the larger the coverage least is the use. Manipur, one of the eight states of north eastern India, including Sikkim state, harbours a high diversity of bamboo. More than 54 species of bamboo under 9 genera have been reported from Manipur against 136 species under 23 genera from India as a whole. Pure bamboo brakes constitute 18.6% of the total forest area of the state and the bamboo play a vital role in the life of Manipuries in their day-to-day requirements. Bamboo has multiple uses and is used in almost all the households needs, for construction, craft, fencing, rituals, firewood, rope, food, utensils and paper manufacturing. Bamboo shoots, both in raw and fermented forms, are largely consumed by the people and can earn a large share of household economy to an amount of Rupees 2130 million (USD 45 million) annually for the nation as a whole. Bamboo is needed from childbirth to death and every household maintains a bamboo colony of certain species in their private land. Revenue of 0.43 million rupees (9000 USD) is generated from bamboo and its products annually by the State Forest Department of Manipur. As bamboo can grow easily with least labour and time, cultivation aspects are least considered. The high potential can be improved by suitable scientific intervention and local capacity building, which will have great implications in improving the socio-economic status of the community.
