The article discusses the assumptions of chromatography when applied to the liquid chromatographic-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) practice during the Conference on Small Molecule Science (CoSMoS) 2009 discussion in Boston, Massachusetts. It notes that LC-MS is approached with a wealth of condensed phase knowledge based on the years of chromatography practice. It is stated that its prospect that protonation is enhanced in positive-mode electrospray is accepted.
