Abstract

The article discusses research done on the distribution and activity of diazotrophic microorganisms and nifH gene expression in the Mekong River plume in South China Sea during intermonsoon. Molecular nitrogen (N2) by marine pelagic prokaryotes has an impact on the supply of new Nitrogen (N) to the ocean. The investigation of distribution and activity involved the use of the nifH gene quantitative polymerase chain reaction (QPCR) and reverse transcription (RT) QPCR. The study procedure also included hydrodynamic modeling of the surface water advection.
