A bibliometric analysis of the degree works (undergraduate) presented at the Faculty of Anthropology (FA) of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMex) for 45 years is offered. Themes, scope, modality and frequency are identified. It seeks to understand the course of these investigations and their direction in prospective terms. The results show 620 works in different modalities, between 1986 and 2022. An annual increase is identified from the third decade and, in the last 15 years, a diversification in the modality is noticed, with a prevalence of theses. The themes show a transition that begins with the rural/urban dichotomy, goes through themes that problematizechange and leads to research on specific population groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GEODATABASES , *BIBLIOGRAPHIC databases , *SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *SCIENTIFIC communication , *PUBLIC relations - Abstract
Scientific production in Latin America and the Caribbean has experienced great growth in recent years (Álvarez-Muñoz y Pérez-Montoro, 2016; Santa y Herrero, 2010), due in part to the increase in public investment in science in these countries and the indexing of their journals in global (Scopus or Wos) and regional (Latindex or Redalyc) databases of bibliographic references. However, in communication, the publication of academic articles is still embryonic. There are several academic studies (Flores-García y Becerril-García, 2020; López-Ornelas et al., 2017; Rogel-Salazar et al., 2017) that highlight the scarce of disclosure of scientific knowledge in this region, remarking the limited presence of communication journals published in Latin America and indexed in databases. In the specific area of public relations, the conceptualization and recognition of this discipline in the academic and professional field has been increasing since the mid-twentieth century. However, despite the progress experienced, the small number of existing studies on the subject in these journals, justify this investigation line. In this sense, this research, within the framework of bibliometric studies, proposes to determine the position occupied by public relations in the academic production about communication of the main journals of the Latin American Caribbean in the last ten years (2010-2020); as well as analyzing the main characteristics of these publications by examining the areas of knowledge of the published texts, the institutions from which they come or its authorship, among other aspects such as the object of study and the methodological procedure used in the research. The scientific journals that make up the sample (Comunicación y Sociedad, from Mexico, Palabra Clave and Signo y Pensamiento, both from Colombia) have been selected based on representativeness criteria such as the impact index in the Scopus bibliographic database and the geographical scope of the Latin American Caribbean. The results indicate that the discipline of public relations is marginal in the overall scientific production in communication in the Latin American Caribbean. Most of the texts published by the journals with the highest impact index in the region focus on fields related to communication but are far removed from the specific area of public relations. However, it is noticeable that in recent years greater attention has been paid to this discipline, with an increase in scientific production in the period between 2016 and 2020. The findings obtained also allow us to establish a profile of the scientific production on public relations disseminated in the decade from 2010 to 2020 by the leading journals in the Latin American Caribbean. A collective authorship, balanced in terms of the sex of the signatories, mainly from universities in Latin America and Spain, and the use of empirical approaches from a qualitative perspective, define the type of academic production analysed. Despite the limitations that this research presents when it comes to extrapolating the results to the whole of the scientific production on public relations in territories other than the Latin American Caribbean, it is outlined as an exploratory study and a first approach to the still incipient research on the discipline of public relations in Caribbean academic journals. This work analyzes the communication discipline in Ibero-America regarding the dynamics of publication and collaboration, thus identifying the communities that have took part in its scientific narrative. It emphasizes the endeavor carried out in Mexico, in the context of the main countries that have contributed to consolidate the communication as a field of knowledge. The study universe consists of 8,989 scientific articles published between 2005 and 2018 in the 27 communication journals linked to Redalyc and are evaluated as a scientific product based on their methodology and indicators. The analysis identified the relevance of regional journals in the consolidation of this discipline as well as the central position of Spain, Brazil and Mexico thanks to their contribution to the scientific literature. In addition, this work highlights the presence of collaborator networks, which are mostly institutional, while in the international sphere it highlights the strong link between Latin America and Spain. DIFFUSION of innovations theory , *DIFFUSION of innovations , *MATHEMATICAL category theory , *SCHOLARLY publishing , *BIBLIOMETRICS , *SCHOLARLY periodicals - Abstract
The objective of this article is to explore the model of diffusion of the innovations suggested by Rogers applying it to the producers of the literature published on the "metrics" in Mexico. As units of analysis were taken each of the articles published in academic journals, book chapters, and papers presented at conferences that addressed some of the aspects of metric studies or the applications of these techniques in a discipline or subfield in Mexico or by Mexicans who published documents on this matter outside of Mexico. The period covered ranges from the first papers published at the beginning of the 1970s up to December 2017. 690 documents were produced and published by 1410 different authors in the research period. The theory of the diffusion of innovations helps to accompany the historical development of Mexican bibliometrics by adequately identifying its innovators, initial adopters, and other categories of the theory of the diffusion of innovations of Rogers. INFLUENZA A virus, H1N1 subtype , *RESEARCH , *BIBLIOMETRICS , *IMPACT factor (Citation analysis) , *SCIENTOMETRICS , *SCIENTISTS - Abstract
Background: During the spring of 2009, H1N1 influenza became the first pandemic of the 21st century. There are no bibliometric studies in Mexico that have analyzed this topic in relation to the generation of Mexican knowledge. The aim of this article is to determine the volume and impact of Mexican scientific output published in journals indexed in Science Citation Index (SCI) on influenza from January 1, 2000, to October 1, 2012. Methods: All the documents within SCI whose topic was influenza were included; in order to do this, we used the describers influenza or swine flu H1N1. The analysis included authorship, international collaboration, journals, document type, citations and address of correspondence. Results: In 2000-2012, 241 articles related to influenza were published. The years with the highest number of articles were 2009 (n = 53) and 2010 (n = 62). The journals with the highest quantity of papers were Salud Pública de México (n = 16), PLOS ONE (n = 13), Archives of Medical Research (n = 13) and Vaccine (n = 10). The most investigated area was infectious diseases (18.9 %), followed by internal medicine (14 %) and immunology (14 %), occupational health (13 %) and experimental medicine (12.3 %). Conclusion: The scientific output on influenza supposes near 1 % of the total of the medical-scientific production with a decline posterior to the outbreak of 2009 pandemic influenza. MEDICAL publishing , *BIBLIOMETRICS , *ORTHOPEDICS , *MEDICAL literature , *MEDICAL periodicals , *PERIODICALS - Abstract
Introduction: A bibliometric review of the journal Acta Ortopédica Mexicana was performed. Material and methods: All the manuscripts received during 2008 and 2009 were analyzed to determine the rejection rate, the number of manuscripts returned for corrections, the stage of the arbitration process they were in, the number and type of manuscripts published, the number of articles received from abroad, the topics published, the number of consultations per country and the number of visits and articles consulted in their full version (PDFs). Results: We include 6 tables and one chart. Major results show that 193 manuscripts were received, which resulted in 178 articles produced with 118 images, and 15 were rejected. The articles were published in 12 issues (2 volumes), which represented 73 original papers, 37 clinical case reports, and the rest were various types of studies. We received papers from 5 countries, with Spain as the one that published the most (5). The most frequently published topics were those concerning the spine, musculoskeletal tumors, and the foot and ankle. We received 284,117 visits from 123 countries in the electronic version and overall the mean number of daily visits was around 1,000. Comment: The main problem of our journal is that our international citation index is very low, since the impact factor is 0.07. Another weakness is that the papers sent for arbitration remain for a long time with our reviewers and this delays their publication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the context of an ongoing research project concerning the scientific constitution of the field of communication studies, this article reviews some national and international approaches on the bibliography presented as foundational, from a diversity of standing points, for this kind of studies. These approaches include both descriptive ("bibliometries") and rather normative ("biblionomies") perspectives, and serve as a framework for the exploration of empirical data extracted from master's degree theses presented at five mexican universities between 1996 and 2005. ECONOMIC history , *INFORMATION science , *INFORMATION literacy , *BIBLIOGRAPHICAL citations , *LIBRARY statistics , *PERIODICAL publishing , *HEALTH facilities ,MEXICAN economy - Abstract
The economic conditions in Mexico have contributed to the impoverishment of its population and, consequently a worsening of their health. Therefore, if research contributes to development, the study of significant research is justified, that is to say research whose results appear in core journals, a principle commonly known as the Bradford Law. The purpose of this study is to determine what has been the scientific growth in order to be able to assume, with empirical evidence, that Mexican researchers have overcome difficulties in order to publish in the most relevant journals, i.e. the most significant ones. Empirical data was built on the basis of the journal lists compiled by Garfield, which comprise of 200 journals that reached the highest levels of impact over a period of 15 years. A total of 155 health science journals were included in the analysis conducted through the Web of Science. A total of 1,293 records published between 1999 and 2004 were identified from a total of 829,400 papers that appeared in those journals and in within the same period globally. 80 % of the significant research carried out in Mexico was concentrated in two entities of the country. It was found that health research is the responsibility of public institutions, mainly academia. Also, that the most active disciplines were biochemistry and molecular biology, neurosciences, general and internal medicine, immunology and microbiology. The conclusion reached is that Mexican researchers have overcome the difficulties related with publishing papers in the core journals. However, Mexican institutions still have to strengthen themselves further in order for the research they carry out be reflected in papers that will take them into a market of visible science, that counts. WOMEN scientists , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *WOMEN college graduates - Abstract
It was not so long ago that women aspiring to enter university in México faced a stifling atmosphere. Population growth and changes in society's attitudes towards women have contributed jointly to expand university enrolment figures. There is, however, a lack of statistical data and little or nothing is known about women's careers, positions and difficulties in Science. Therefore, an attempt was made to analyse the performance of women scientists in agriculture since Mexico, as most nations, aims at satisfying its population needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: CONACYT's Mexican Science and Technology Journals Classification System (SCRMCYT) includes the area of medicine and health sciences (M&HS)., Objective: A bibliometric analysis of M&HS journals listed in SCRMCYT in 2018 was performed., Method: Twelve characteristics related to indexation in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), Scopus, and PubMed databases were analyzed. Indexed journals were analyzed on whether they had recent indexed publications (2017 and 2018). Indexed journals' 50 most-cited articles in WoSCC and Scopus were analyzed., Results: Of the 35 M&HS journals included in the 2018 SCRMCYT list, 31 (89 %) were indexed in Scopus (22 with indexed publications in 2017; 18 in 2018), 17 (49 %) in PubMed (10 with indexed publications in 2017 and 2018), and 12 (34 %) in WoSCC (12 with indexed publications in 2017; 8 in 2018). The 50 most-cited articles had been published only in 4 journals indexed in WoSCC and 5 in Scopus; 60 % were review articles., Conclusions: Approximately half the 2018 SCRMCYT M&HS journals lack publications indexed in 2018; this suggests that national and international relevance of these journals can be improved., (Copyright: © 2019 SecretarÍa de Salud.)
