Currently, suicide is a public health problem in all states of Mexico; its occurrence and the worldwide dynamic increase keep occurring year after year. In first-world countries and developing ones, mental health disorders are the main trigger for suicidal behavior, leaving in it is wake devastating psychological consequences for the families of the patient who performs the suicidal act. A notable increase of almost double the number of completed suicides occurred in Nayarit between 2013 and 2018. These data stemmed from the mental health department of the Health Secretariat at Nayarit and the offices of the forensic medical services of the state attorney general. The present study used a descriptive, time-series design, employing suicide deaths in Mexico over six years, reflecting the epidemiological increase in suicide deaths. It is necessary to urgently apply the existing strategies recommended by the World Health Organization and Mexican health institutions for the prevention of suicide, as well as to implement strategies to detect suicidal behaviors on time and generate better psychological and psychiatric support for patients with already detected mental disorders. All of the above leads us to reflect on the various predisposing factors that could have caused this increase in suicides in Nayarit, Mexico. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. To describe the magnitude of the prevalence of anemia in the Mexican population participating in the Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición Continua 2022 (Ensanut Continua 2022). Materials and methods. The Ensanut 2022 is a probabilistic survey. Venous blood was collected to estimated hemoglobin (Hb) using hemocue 201+, then Hb values were adjusted by altitude and anemia was defined using the World Health Organization (WHO) cut-off for age and sex. Prevalence and 95%CI were reported considering the complex sample design. Results. The prevalence of anemia was 6.8% in children aged 1-4y, 3.8% in children aged 5-11y, 10.1% in adolescents (12-19y), 15.8% in women (20-49y) and 10.3% in older adults (≥60y). Conclusions. Anemia affected mainly adult women. Is a need to identify its causes and associated factors to target interventions and avoid the intergenerational cycle of anemia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The pandemic modifies Mexican hospital care, adding 42.5% of non-indigenous patients and 60.2% of indigenous patients infected by covid d 19. The risk of hospitalization for indigenous and non-indigenous patients is given by sociodemographic, health and residence characteristics at the beginning of the pandemic. Developing multinomial logistic models with data from May 22, 2020, it is obtained that in the risk of hospitalization without and with intubation there are common and specific variables, increasing for indigenous people if they reside in large cities due to migration as they are linked to the informality whose place of work is mainly the public space. The objective of the study is to analyze the demographic characteristics, comorbidity, and medical condition of infected and noninfected people in Mexico. Information from specialized articles, scientific news, research reports, and notes from news agencies is selectively articulated to generate hypotheses for the case study. The selection of these hypotheses depends largely on the available information and the research objective. Main results confirm that men die more often than women and that the main comorbidities in the population are hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. The analysis confirms that smoking is not relevant for admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but is a factor associated with the death of those infected. Pregnancy is not associated with the severity of the infection, as measured by admission to the ICU. Finally, the analysis also shows that the virus infection is not more acute in the infected indigenous population. The study reports findings and suggests a methodological route to obtain the panorama of contagion that may be useful for decisionmaking on health. Explorations in the Google Scholar search engine show that the current study is the first formal large-scale analysis that uses the database of the Mexican Ministry of Health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents an examination of the development of 19th century Mexican immigration law. It explores the influence that Spanish colonial rule had on immigration laws in Mexico after gaining its independence and discusses the role that migrant Indians and independent Indians played in the formation and implementation of 19th century immigration policy. It examines differences between immigration policy in the United States and Mexico and discusses the economic impact of immigration policy. It also discusses how Mexican immigration policy dealt with the country's indigenous population.

The purpose of this article is to examine the institutionalization of a region of the United States of America: the Texas Lower Rio Grande Valley. It will use and build on theories of regional institutionalization, geography, and demography by Paasi, Harvey, Gilbert, and other theorists. This research asks how history, geography, and demography challenge the present and future regional institutionalization of the Texas Lower Rio Grande Valley. The main goal of this study is to provide estimations of mean mortality rate of vegetative shoots of the seagrass Zostera marina in a meadow near Ensenada Baja California, using a technique that minimizes destructive sampling. Using cohorts and Leslie matrices, three life tables were constructed, each representing a season within the period of monthly sampling (April 1999 to April 2000). Ages for the cohorts were established in terms of Plastochrone Interval (PI). The matrices were projected through time to estimate the mean total number of individuals at time t, n(t) as well as mortality. We found no statistical differences between observed and predicted mean values for these variables (t=-0.11, p=0.92 for n(t) and t=0.69, p=0.5 for mean rate of mortality). We found high correlation coefficient values between observed and projected values for monthly number of individuals (r=0.70, p=0.007) and monthly mortality rates (r=0.81, p=0.001). If at a certain time t a sudden environmental change occurs, and as long as the perturbation does not provoke the killing of all the individuals of a given age i for 0 ≤ i ≤ × - 1, there will be a prevailing number of individuals of age or stage x at a time t+1. This nondestructive technique reduces the number of field visits and samples needed for the demographic analysis of Z. marina, and therefore decreases the disturbance caused by researches to the ecosystem. Pinus greggii Engelm. is endemic to eastern Mexico and of great ecological and economic importance. It occurs between 20°13′ and 25°29′ N latitude with a large gap of 360 km in the central portion of its range. The northern populations of the species are recognized as P. greggii var. greggii and the southern ones as P. greggii var. australis. The elevational range of the species is from 1,400 to 2,613 m above sea level. Populations in the southern region are located at lower elevations with higher mean temperatures and annual precipitation (±1,720 m, ±17.5°C and ±1,370 mm) than populations in the northern region (±2,450 m, ±13°C and ±640 mm). Twenty natural populations of the species were sampled, and huge differences were found among them in the area that they cover and the associated tree species. Southern populations are typically associated with species of temperate-subtropical tree communities, whereas in the northern region tree species from colder and semi-arid communities are more common. Juniperus flaccida and Quercus spp. are common to both regions. In general, populations at the extreme of the natural distribution were smaller and had a lower density of mature trees and seedlings. Most P. greggii populations are subjected to great human impact associated with wood extraction and farming activities, resulting in reduced regeneration. This study provides an overview of demographic changes that occurred in the Purépecha (Tarascan) region of Michoacán, Mexico between 1970 and 2000. The region, defined primarily by the distribution of Purépecha speakers, is examined with respect to overall population changes, migration, language, urbanization and employment as measured at the municipal level. Results showed that the pattern of cultural contraction of the region has stabilized and may actually be reversing. Additionally, this study defines three types of municipios: core area, urbanizing, and transitional, each of which has a different role in the functioning of the region as a whole.
